Lyrics for Bad Blood as interpreted by ruben

Bad Blood Lyrics
No news, that's good news that someone's gonna break
See, things change, yeah, I've been changing every day
It's peaceful, the pitch black when the last light on goes out
I'm stranded in my bed, so I think about the bad luck
The bad blood that may have come between two good souls
That's one hell of an offering
So take these gifts that have been given, yes
And ended up with an alphabet but some words are too
wrong to define
Now the whole world is waking up, a ribbon cut for the opening
Yeah, we all knew that day would arrive

Up all night, all upset, outside's growing light
No breakfast, just not much of an appetite
So be cool and believe in the things you haven't learned
Because you lost and it's gone but it will return
Now it's all laid out in front of you and that's half murdered the mystery
Are you still too shy to describe?
Now the whole world is waking up, a ribbon cut for the opening
Yes, finally the day has arrived
So seek and rejoice
Fill your hands with something tangible and fly your love like a flag
And destroy the desire for that which is impossible
And accept what you get with a smile

"anything conor does with The Album Leaf is amazing"
Wow, I knew this and Hungry for a holiday had something special, they were somewhat alike[musically]

I think the ribbon cut for the opening is like discovering love or something, the "mystery" I'm pretty sure it's love too, Oh, yeah, now I remember, Let's not Shit Ourselves: "How grateful I was then to be part of the mystery. To love and to be loved".

"Now the whole world is waking up" like first day of my life "You said everything changed
You felt as if you just woke up"

I think the whole song means... this person who's sad because he/she's been in a bad relationship and thinks "maybe someday I will find my real love so if you find it open your eyes, don't let it go, enjoy it, don't go looking for something perfect ['and destroy the desire for that wich is impossible'] because it is impossible and accept what you get, what is real.

"Up all night, all upset. Outside's growing light. No breakfast, just not much of an appetite."

seriously there's a food, eating or mirror reference in almost all of conor's songs. being up all night could be caused by malnutition from this lack of appetite (or rather disregard towards eating).

This song could quite possibly = the sex. I got it before the Noise Floor album was release (limewire ftw) and I fell in love with it for like, 230284 months (more like a couple of weeks.)

If this song isn't way popular soon, you guys are craaaaazy.

I like the way that the song starts out slow and quiet and it's louder at the end, when the lyrics are more hopeful.
This song is about how when nothing is going on, you start thinking about what you've lost and in this situation it is love. "Bad blood" refers to the things that come between people. CO is singing to himself in this one, about how, even though so often love seems impossible, having faith in it, "believing in things you haven't learned" can help you maintain.

It ends with the image of having love, so it's a happier song in the end.

The lines "So be cool and believe in the things you haven't learned
Because you lost and it's gone but it will return" has me thinking about Platon and his idea about learing. That the soul has already learned everything previously, which means learning is just remembering the knowledge.

I love this song!!!!!
okay just needed to get that out.
The first time I listened to this song I didn't really think that it was about another one of those breakups. I thought that it was about regret on just life in general, and how nothing is really given for no apparent reason. Not even a good day is free without you getting a bad one in return. Despite all the bad things in the world, life still is so randomly beautiful. I guess I must have mis-interpreted or something but even if so, the song is amazing. No questions asked.

"Because you lost and it's gone but it will return"

you may have lost someone you love dearly, and that person may not return but the feeling and the love will, with another.

i think the "up all night" and the "no breakfast not much of an appetitie" are refering to his coke problem. thats just me. when i listen to this song i just think of the person in the song being really messed up and upset because the person he really loved left, but then at the end like most of Conor's songs he realizes that love will come around again and it all going to turn out well.

I do not think I am right but it feels like when i got drunk and made out with my best friend and i did not want my girlfriend to know and i couldent eat for three days and everythign seemed bad but the feeling seemed to lift and you get into a bit of dispare like saying to yourself in your head "your in a relationship you dont want to be in and you are passing up all tht you want"
very good song, amazing in fact.
bright eyes are one of the only good bands ATM
everyone who hates bright eyes should be gathered up and destroyed

This song is talking about language. And how we cannot truely express our natural feeling because everyfeeling is tied to a word, which ultimatley degrades the true feeling.

Hear me out.
"Now the whole world, is waking up, a ribbon cut for the opening, yeah we all knew that day, would arrive"
That's referring to us evolving and getting smarter as species, learning to speak.
"So take these gifts that have been given, yes
And ended up with an alphabet but some words are too wrong to define"
First off I think "wrong", is the wrong word. It seems like it's long.
The gifts are all the time and evolution that took place before us giving us language. However, that alphabet only goes so far, some feelings, words don't match, eventually it anchors us, giving us a limited swimming area.
Also, these are what I think are correct lyrics.

Now it's all laid out in front of you and maps have murdered the mystery
Are you still too shy to describe?
Now the whole world is waking up, a ribbon cut for the opening
Yes, finally the day has arrived
So receive, the good news, And rejoice, ????,
Fill your hands with something tangible and fly your love like a flag
And destroy, alphabet, the desire, appetite, for that which is impossible
And accept what you get with a smile

The map reference is on language. When something happens, we automatically linking that emotion to a word, destroying the mystery of some vague off-centered feeling words limit us from.

Ok and here is where Conor just amazes me once again...
"And destroy, alphabet, the desire, appetite, for that which is impossible
And accept what you get with a smile"
There is so much to this.
He's saying destroy the language that limits our feeling. Alphabet is language.
Then he says while still under the word destroy, appetite. By this he means our wanting to explain and match words to incoherent and undescribable feeling and emotions. Then he goes on to tell us to just accept it, naturally. Just let it hit you however it may.

Fucking genius

this song is about someone finding out that they are HIV positive.

bad blood
the world is waking up
ribbons cut for charity
no appetite, etc

the end of the song is about trying to be happy with what you have left, even though whats lost cant be repaired

I think it's probably about more than one thing, but the main concept its dealing with bad news and things you can't change. The HIV idea is a very good example.
