Took a river and it wouldn't let go
I want you to stay and I want you to go
I took a river and the river was long and it goes on
I want to be there tonight
I want to get there but it's just out of sight
I took a river and felt so slight so hold on
So hold on
Hold on
It goes on
I took a river and the river was long
I want you to stay course I want you to go
I took a river and the river was long and goes on
It goes on
Ooh it goes on
It goes on
I want you to stay and I want you to go
I took a river and the river was long and it goes on
I want to be there tonight
I want to get there but it's just out of sight
I took a river and felt so slight so hold on
So hold on
Hold on
It goes on
I took a river and the river was long
I want you to stay course I want you to go
I took a river and the river was long and goes on
It goes on
Ooh it goes on
It goes on

"I want you to stay, and I want you to go"
He needs her but supports her doing whatever it is which is causing her to leave.
After she's gone he wants to be with her.
"I want to be there tonight
I want to get there but it’s just out of sight"
And generally life just keeps flowing, so you need to go along with it.
"So hold on and hold on, it goes on"
Really love this song.
But anyways, this has always been one of my favorite Spoon songs. Nice and simple. And the "oooohs" and "aaaaaahs" in the background are oh. so. wonderful.
it made the movie just that much better
of course, wreckless eric helped too
