In the corner beside my window
Hangs a lonely photograph
There is a reason I never notice it
Memory that could hold me back

There is a wound that's always bleeding
There is a road I'm always walking
And I know you'll never return to this place

Gone through days without talking
There is a comfort in silence
So used to losing all ambition
And struggling to maintain what's left

There is a wound that's always bleeding
There is a road I'm always walking
And I know you'll never return to this place

Once undone, there's only smoke
Burning in my eyes to blind
To cover up what really happened
And force the darkness unto me

There is a wound that's always bleeding
There is a road I'm always walking
And I know you'll never return to this place

General Comment:such a great song to cry to....i love metal, but i just lost my mom to cancer, and this is when this style of opeth really gets to ya. i love the heavy opeth with the badass riffs and whatnot, but the softer style is just as, if not better than the heavier stuff.

Favorite songs include: Blackwater Park, The Moor, Windowpane, Bleak, Hope Leaves, Closure, To Bid You Farewell, Ghost Perditions, and Atonement.

General Comment:To me, this is about a lost friend. More than likely, the friend was not lost through death, but rather through more of a falling out situation.

General Comment:im sure this was probably inspired by his grandmother, but i love how he keeps it vague. it lets the listener put their own meaning on it, and im sure anyone who has experienced the loos of a loved one can relate to this on some level.

    General Comment:my favourite Opeth song.
The last verse makes things a bit interesting though, to me its describing someone burning the place where the photo is so he can like rid it from his memory - cover up what really happened???
Interesting as crime scenes are often set alight to cover up evidence etc?

General Comment:This song has got to be one of my favorites of all time. It's so down, but so meaningful. I agree, the title completely describes the song. It's the feeling, when you say goodbye to someone for the last time, or for a long time, all feelings you had of hope are gone, and how do you cope with stuff like that?

There is a wound that's always bleeding
    - It always hurts, and there's nothing to be done about it, it can't be fixed.
There is a road I'm always walking
    - It's always the same, the same path, the same thing, the same pain, always there.
And I know you'll never return to this place
    - Do you need an explanation? Someone's gone, won't be coming back.. Hope Leaves.

General Comment:Overwhelmingly depressing shit, especially about 2:26 through where that static noise kicks in. Pretty sure this about the death of a family member.

General Comment:I think that this song is about someone who is gone forever, and only his memories still remain, and the writer still suffer from the pain of the farewell (there is a wound it's always bleeding), it can be about his grandmother, or it can be about someone else, for exp: when i listen to this song, i feel as it's about me and my ex girlfreind , but still a great damn song

General Comment:I think the title says it all. It's that feeling you get when you know you will never see someone you loved again. That person could be dead or just out of your life; once you give up HOPE LEAVES.
