Lyrics for Hello as interpreted by rjbucs28

Hello Lyrics
Playground schoolbell rings, again
Rainclouds come to play, again
Has no one told you she's not breathing ?
Hello, I'm your mind, giving you someone to talk to...Hello...
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream
Don't try to fix me
I'm not broken
Hello, I'm the lie living for you so you can hide...
Don't cry...
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
Hello, I'm still here, all that's left
Of yesterday..

indignity you have a really good grip on this one, a school shooting fits this one really well because of the reference to a playground in the first verse. It seems like a troubled young person's perspective on it, almost as if they have a second personality forming because of the trauma, and that second person is talking to them.
"Hello, I'm your mind giving you
someone to talk to
hello"
That condition is furthered by the lines
"Hello I'm the lie living for you so you can hide
don't cry"
indicating that internally the person has a lot of turmoil and the bridge lyrics
"Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
hello I'm still here
All that's left of yesterday"
Indicates that the trauma hadn't occurred all that long ago, and that the memory is so blocked out that the second personality is the only indicator that this person is even aware of something significant ever having happened.

My take: this is someone who's in shock.
"Playground schoolbell rings, again/Rainclouds come to play, again" I think the schoolbell is refering to a child that has died. Maybe this is the mother? Rainclouds are like the sadness clouding her mind.
"Has no one told you she's not breathing ?/Hello, I am your mind, giving you someone to talk to... Hello... " This is the person's subconscious, a little voice in their head trying to bring them back to reality. The person doesn't want to believe someone has died, and is conflicted.
"If I smile and don't believe/Soon I know I'll wake from this dream" She's smiling, like saying "Yea they're dead, ok." But she doesn't really believe it. She thinks its all a dream and she'll wake up soon.
"Don't try to fix me/I'm not broken" She's getting mad that everyone keeps asking if she's ok, is eveything alright. She thinks, Of course I'm alright, nothing's wrong.
"I am the lie living for you so you can hide/don't cry" There's the little voice again, trying to keep the person sane. This line is like the person is just kind of living their life in the moment, trying not to think about whatever has happened. But inside, she is falling apart.
"Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping/ Hello, I'm still here, all that's left/Of yesterday.." Realization. She realizes she is still around, while their loved one is dead.
Didn't mean to go that far into it... But Evanescence makes me think. (Geez I did the whole song...)

Playground schoolbell rings, again

the person goes back to being a child. there has been a death in the family. someone very close.

Rainclouds come to play, again

the person is saddened... the rainclouds represent depression.

Has no one told you she's not breathing ?

hm... this line, i think, is either a description of the person... she is not really breathing, she is still in shock... or someone asking her... because she is acting as if nothing has happened.

Hello, I'm your mind, giving you someone to talk to...Hello...

the person stays lost in her own mind... the person was very close so they talked a lot... the memory is giving her someone to talk with.

If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream

the person does not want to believe. she refuses to. she decides to make believe everything is alright... in hopes everything actually will be alright... that its all a bad dream.

Don't try to fix me
I'm not broken

the persons family is trying to tell her that the passed one will not come back... they are trying to convince her. but she still refuses to believe that anything is wrong.

Hello, I'm the lie living for you so you can hide...
Don't cry...

that is the lie in her head speaking to her... telling her not to cry because nothing is wrong... in the lie, at least.

Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping

the person loses sleep over this... (this is the line im not too sure of)

Hello, I'm still here, all that's left
Of yesterday..

the memory of the person who died coming back to speak to the girl... comforting her.

I think this song is about someone who is trying to cope with the death of someone close to them. They are in shock and don't believe that the person has died. They know it has happened, but they can't believe it. I think it is taken from a child's perspective. Maybe the mother died?

This song basically deals with realization of the death of a loved one. The person knows her loved one passed away, but it doesn't hit her until later on.

"Playground schoolbell rings, again
Rainclouds come to play, again"

That line shows how everything in the world remains the same despite the loss. Her world basically stopped, but everything else is going on as it would normally.

"Has no one told you she's not breathing ? "

Shes having flashbacks from when she found out the person died, like shes slowly making herself believe.

"Hello, I'm your mind, giving you someone to talk to...Hello..."

Thats her conscience..her mind is trying to distract her from the truth.

"If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream"

She telling herself "This is all just a dream, i know i'm going to wake up, so why should i be sad?"

"Don't try to fix me
I'm not broken"

People are trying to comfort her, trying to make her feel better, but she thinks everything is all right. They don't need to comfort her, shes only dreaming.

"Hello, I'm the lie living for you so you can hide...
Don't cry... "

Now shes sort of comforting herself. She knows deep down that its not a dream but shes hiding it. Shes living a lie, her little world where everything is all right.

"Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
Hello, I'm still here, all that's left
Of yesterday.. "

She finally realizes that its not dream, and everything is not all right. Her loved one is gone, and she is left all alone.

I KNOW THE ACTUAL MEANING OF THIS SONG. THIS IS NOT MY OPINION. I KNOW HER FAMILY. SHE GRADUATED FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL AND I AM FRIENDS WITH HER SISTER.

its about her sister bonnie who drowned in the bathtub when she was 3 or 4. i'm not positive but im pretty sure that amys a little bit older than bonnie was. they think she might have had a seziere b/c her brother robbie suffers from sezieres. this song is means a lot to me b/c my mom had a miscarrage and my dad died.

Hmm... well I can see where most of everyone else's thoughts could be right, I am most fond of mystifiedpoet's take on this. I really don't know what this song is about, nor do I really need to know. The haunting vocals and powerful (if somewhat confusing) lyrics just blow my mind and I don't have the thought processes to contemplate just what it's about.

I think this song is about someone that the singer has lost, but the person has not necassarily died, and the fact that this loss has drove her into insanity... and made her believe that all her lies where her truths and everything is going to remail the same. I think that it also shows that she is scares of showing her true feelings because she thinks that everything that she is going through is a dream

i think this song is one of the most beautiful songs they have written it resembles a day in the life of a lonely person and its so sad the lyrics ' nobody told you she's not breathing' obviously means that this person ids bereaving and 'hello, i'm your mind giving you someone to talk to' means that it was someone close and now all he/she has to speak to is theirselves

The song is about a child dieing. And the mothers thoght and views of this passing. It is about the emotional heartbreak and how she sees it in her mind. It is her way of relieveing the pain from looseing the child she so loved. It is her way of comeing to relaity with herself and letting emotions go. It's about washing all the pain away so that she can move on. She knows that this child is dead.. but doesn't want to grasp that fact yet in her own mind. Yet she is also scared about how to take this reaction. She holds it in.. yet at the same time is leting it out. Her heart is breaking and she is just trying to mind the pieces by the words which she is saying. It's like through her own words she is coming to grips of what has happened and hwo to let go of the one things she lost.

From everything I've heard besides from this site, her sister's name was Catherine. Yes, it's about her sister, though. I read the Blender interview, where Amy was talking about this song (and Must Be Dreaming, which is also about her sister) =). I don't know the exact circumstances, though. Maybe Amy was in school, and when she got home her sister was dead? I'm not sure. I know Amy was six when it happened, so it would make sense. I wish I knew more...

This article briefly mentions a song named "Catherine," and as I know Must Be Dreaming by that name, I think the sister's name probably was Catherine. But doesn't Amy have another sister named Bonnie who's still alive? *sigh* I don't know anymore.

I love evanescence and I read that this song is about Amy Lee's Sister that Drowned when she was a little girl right in front of her.

"Has no one told you shes not breathing"
after her sister was pulled from the water

"Hello I'm your mind giving you someone to talk to"
She didnt have anyone to talk to so she talked to herself

"If I Smile and dont belivesoon I know I wake from this dream"
If she doesnt believe it cant be real

"Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping"
The realization her sister isnt comming back

and thats what the song is Really About

I agree that this is about her sister's death. She was a child and that's why there's references to playgrounds. Being a child she didn't understand what had happened. when someone told her her sister wasn't coming back, her coping device was denial. When she finally realized the reality of this, it was a huge blow to her, that's why she says that she knows she's not sleeping. It's the whole "This isn't a nightmare. She won't come back." thing we go through when we're little and lose a pet, a friend or a family member. It's actually a really depressing song, but still a beautiful one.

No i really dont think this song is about death i think its about someone who has been hiding from themselves or are in some sort of denial and whoes mind is their only conpanion but they just dont want to think because then they will realise that their life is just not working "Has no one told you she's not breathing ?" Their mind is telling them that they have to realise that they are not coping with their problems.
