Lyrics for Everybody's Fool as interpreted by rjbucs28

Everybody's Fool Lyrics
Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame? Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look, here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh, how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
But now I know she

Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

Without the mask, where will you hide?
Can't find yourself lost in your lie

I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore

Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
And somehow now you're everybody's fool

Well, just cause this gets brought up on every single baord for thsi band, I'd though I'd bring it up here. I've had some people tell me they believe this song is about organized religion, more specifically Christianity. Lines such as: "More lies about a world that/Never was and never will be," and "You're not real and you can't save me," are the lines they cite to prove their point.
I don't agree with this, and as evidenced by the quotes posted above, it's wrong anyway. What do you all think about it?

as well as being about the trashy pop idols, could it also be about advertising and the way it manipulates peoples minds? i.e the pizza ad at the start of the video - you do actually get ads like that - they try to make people believe that if they buy this pizza, your family life will be perfect, you will be beautiful - yadda yadda. yeh, so i think it could also be about the advertising industry.... what do you think?

There's this person everyone likes. However, they're only liked because of this fake appearance they put on, and Amy is getting tired of it. Just my theory.

This is my favorite "I hate the world" song. It makes me think of society and how much I hate it how people are so superficial and it seems like no one can see past how someone looks.

ok...i just joined this site a few days ago and have jsut now read the comments posted by Man on Tv and was more than a little insulted....amy lee is is no way fat...i'm the same sizw as her and everyone always tells me that im the perfect size. im willing to bet you weigh like 250 and are jsut diding others to feel good about yourself.....get over it..they have talkent whereaas you prolly cant carry a tuen in a bucket....ne how..to me this song is about someone who looks like they have it all together but inside they're screaming for someone to see the real person. i love this song because it reminds me of me...al my friends see me as a strong person who knows what she wants and thats just not it...to me that is wat the song is aobut...also about posers who try to be what they're not
by the way..i wanna add my thanks to this site...since ive joined i;ve learned quite a bit about evanescence who happen to be my all tyime fav band....if anyone has a fav song tha they think s'one should hear by them...post it..i wanna exzplore allthe music i can. EVANESCENCE ROCKS...amy is so much better thatn britny and christina who dont have a fucking clue wat music is...

I really liked how shatteredstarlight brought up the point in which, yes, is usually brought up. That is that this song can be about religions such as Christianity. I too, believe that this song is about that. I kind of think Amy Lee might be atheist or agnostic or something of that sort.
I get the sense that it IS in fact about religions that give a sense of "false" hope and beliefs. "Perfect by nature"

What confused me was that Amy used the word "she" as a referance to whoever Amy was talking about in this song. I do not come to realize if God usually is referred to as "she".

Most of what other people are saying, but really, You have to see the music video. It explains alot. Like when she sings "You thought the mask..." she's in an elevator and there are these two preps and they say "Are you who we think you are?" and she smiles and shakes her head "no". But they're say "Yeah, she totally is!! Oh my god! She's so much older now!". It's about herself. She's created a false ego. Many people do this. They tell a little lie, then to cover that one up they tell another. Eventually people have them ALL wrong, and then they get exposed and feel horrible and want to die. At this point in the mmusic video she's trying to "kill" "herself" by smashing the mirror, screaming at the billboard, etc.

This is about a person who puts up a mask to make people love them and to fit in... "oh how we love you"... this person just came to the revelation that it's not the real them and it's not saving them and making them fit in anymore that what it would if they just set the mask down... but that isn't so easy to do... this person almost loved the mask they had put up and made everyone see them as, but now that it isn't really as good as they thought... they no longer love it... "i know the truth now, i know who you are, and i don't love you anymore." ... it's hard to explain

I really think she is talking about herself in this one. "Never was and never will be, you don't know how you betray me, and somehow you've got everybody fooled" I think she is at battle with herself wanting to be admired by all young girls like Britney Spears but yet she knows that she never was and never will be like that. And the "you don't know how you've betray me" part I think in a way she feels she is betraying herself by just thinking that.

Does anyone thinks the intro was took fom Iron Maiden or it's just me.

And please don't tell me every one is gonna restart the whole Led-Zep thing( accept that here every one will be looking for christian reference instead of Lord of the Ring and Satanist references)

all of you are tertible, this song is about God, i explain:

"Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence "

yes is the belief that god is perfect, and he is too be the greatest of all beings, no one above him

"Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame don't you see me
You know you've got everybody fooled "

bible is full of lies and contradictions of a world to be under god, graceful and great, but is it? no.... and yes everyone religious, specially christian-based, are fools, fooled by the ridiculous words of the bible, i tell you.... i created the sun the earth and the stars... you believe me right? i didnt think so, so why believe the rubbish in the bible, exactly

"Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you "

yes everyone get on ur damn knees and pray to the ficticious god who has an unprecidented love for everyone, except women and children of course

"I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore
It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me "

im sure one day all will realize the essence of truth and throw all dogma out the door, theyre realize it was all just fake and just used a crutch for insecure "lame" minded people, and all people who swear they are saved by gods grace and will previal in heaven, haha well sorry to bust ur balls but ur body is going to rot and dissinegrate in the ground and your soul is going no where except back out into the universal connectiveness shared by all living objects.

sorry bible fuckers, the bible has been scientifically disproven thru n thru again, search and seek truth, dont accept whats thrown at you, which probably was taken in as defenseless child that ur bitch ass parents forced into you, i feel bad for yous guys almost, if ur able to read this, ur able to change! TRUTH

Lilcrow - You perceive things how you wish to perceive things. The wonderful thing about music is that it's versatile, you can apply it to your own situation. However, blatantly stating that your opinion is the one and only truth is a dumbass move. So swallow your fucking ego.

I'm sorry, but Amy really isn't preaching religion in this song, kids. She's publicly stated that she wrote this song for her little sister when her sister started getting into bubblegum pop like Brittney, Christina and Paris. It was meant to show that you can't be like these people, don't NEED to be like them, because they aren't real. Their perfection is just a mask, not an accurate portrayal of them. Like in the music video, they can put on a happy front, doll themselves up, but in the end they feel just like you--worthless and ugly.

As said, perceive it as you like, but please don't insist your view is the one and only definition.

I love this song, because it basically describes celebrity's and everyday people.
It's basically about a person *particular somebody who a lot of people look up too* and she isn't as perfect as she is made to believe, she lives a big lie and everybody believes it for a while and then it all comes out. Amy lee, is playing a fan who finds out the hard way about the lies, And she is basically saying "Have you no sense of honor? Are you just so fake that you lie to everybody, You're just a big lie and I have no respect or love for you anymore." and that is basically what the song is.
