Lyrics for Everybody's Fool as interpreted by rjbucs28

Everybody's Fool Lyrics
Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame? Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look, here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh, how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
But now I know she

Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

Without the mask, where will you hide?
Can't find yourself lost in your lie

I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore

Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
And somehow now you're everybody's fool

you know, i sow one youtube video that really struck me for a minute using this song and hrry potter characters its not the real background story, but it explains why fluer and hermione hate eachother. ok so the summer before the triwizard tournament, hermoine went to france. both she and fleur, who she just met, are rather unpopular.they instantly connect and become friends. when fleur comes to hogwarts to compete, both girls see eachother as having betrayed the other. hermoine's hanging out with the most famous teen wizard in the world (harry), and fleur is surrounded by beauxbaton's withches, because she is going to compete. both feel betrayal and hatred. and it so so SO fits with this song

I once read that Amy Lee wrote this song because of her sister, who was (or probably is) a fan of artists such as Britney Spears - So, Everybody's Fool talks about that fake world of those girls, that seem perfect and happy, but it's all plastic.

this song reminds me of somebody who pretended to be my friend, he did this for three months before telling me that he hated me the entire time. He is a worthless liar and a piece of shit. This song describes it so perfectly. I dedicated it to the person that hurt me, and he actually congratulated me for picking such a fitting song... and told me to drop dead, so, thank you Evanescence, and fuck you skyler

This is literally the perfect song for what I'm going through right now.
Someone that everybody loves and seems so perfect...
Yet you know their true side, and you can't understand how everybody is so blind to it.

Evanescence is an amazing band.

This song is about the world. It is a common belief in spirituality that the world does not really exist, but humans made it up to hide from themselves. "Just what we all need, more lies about a world that..." Also the line "You're not real and you can't save me" tells us the thing she's talking about does not exist.

Definitely interesting to hear all the different takes on this song and how personal it is to some people even though they have different perceptions of it. I have listened to the song about 5 times now and love it (enough to try search for the meaning behind the lyrics). I haven't seen the video at all, didn't know there was one, and only became aware of the video by reading these comments. Here is my take on it and I would be interested if anybody else had this perception: I thought the song was political. I thought it was Amy's feelings toward the Bush administration or the U.S. government and their "war on terror" and "patriotism" and such. Wait wait, please let me finish. I know I may sound ridiculous. But why do I think this way? Well the lyrics and the concept of the song so perfectly illustrate my own feelings (and probably lots of other people's feelings) toward the administration. Especially the "betrayed" line. And the "now you're everybody's fool" line is especially appropriate and becomes more so every day. However the "you don't see me" line I still don't yet understand. But I haven't seen the video yet and maybe that will change my perception of the song. If it is about a relationship between two people I can totally understand that too, probably everyone has been through this type of thing. I am expecting lots of rude responses telling me how stupid I am for misinterpreting the song. So be it.

I dont think this song is about hating someone else (an ex, celebrities, that fake popular girl at your school.) No this song sings of hatred much more powerful than something you could ever feel for another. Its definatley about self-hatered.
(" Have you no shame? Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled")
The entire song is self-directed. She knows shes fake and she hates herself.
(Ps. watch the music video you'll know what i mean....)

this songs about fake people, no question about it, and i've not heard a song with the same meaning and not agreed with it, fake people tend to be the ones we forget about first, i mean in the 1990s look how many people loved britney spears, now where is she? a washed up, sex obsessed alcoholic. Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) was around in the 70/80s, and where is he now? oh yes still in Black Sabbath!!(believe it or not Virginia's metal act Lamb Of God of all people did a song that went along exactly the same lines as this, but with it being metal was more violent)

A childhood friend who showed her up. Made her look like a fool in front of everyone else. But her friend is hiding something of her own. Everyone thinks she's perfect, but there is a secret that if everyone knew, SHE would be the fool. And she's trying to get everyone to see what the ex-friend was hiding.

I never thought this song was actually about AMY herself; but I've always thought that this song is about superficiality - assuming that these celebrities were born perfect (the line 'perfect by nature' shows this) when really, it is all an illusion & deep down, it is mostly fake.

When they finally realize what they are, this is when they say to themselves "you're not real and you can't save me" - these are the people who we insult and critisize each day because we can see their superficiality (well, atleast I can!)

Hmmm. at first I was agreeing with chino69's comments but I don't think it's about her being hurt by another person. It's about the character she plays- everyone wants to be like her but they don't know her. And she's seeing this facade she plays- always happy and smiling and cool when she's really emotional and even tries to avoid the people such as the girls in the elevator who laugh at her even though they're all plastic and no heart. Then she realizes the truth- the glitz, the glamor, the smile for the camera, is not for her, she's not the perfect daughter or the hot super model (although she's beautiful in every way) or the Japanese girls into colored hair (like come on). It's about the side of herself she doesn't want to deal with anymore and she wants to focus on her true self that's more important to her. Great song. Love it

To me... personally... this song is about like seeing everyone like pretending to be someone else, doing so yourself... and hating yourself for it... (that sounded so much better in my head!) To me it's like telling someone hey I know you're a fake, give it up... because everyone knows you're not real! that you're pretending... just stop... that's just my opinion of this song!

This song reminds me SO MUCH of my EX-Girlfriend....I mean SO MUCH! I thought she was perfect and she was, until her little fake world came crashing down and I saw her for what she really was.

It never was and never will be
You're not real, and you can't save me

PERFECT!

I also like the music video!

this song reminds me of a past relationship i had, even though it was with a guy I can simply replace it with him instead of her. He lies, cheats, and gets anyone he wants. So to me it means he's fooling everyone, I realized it so "I don't love him anymore" and in the end everyone will relize thats he's the fool.

First of All, I love this song... But the real reason I’m commenting was to laugh, at someone who deserves it. I was reading the comments (not all of them) and this Guy, "MAN ON TV" I hope he was kidding when he said all the guys named Evan are being annoyed by the band's name, I hope he knows 'Evanescence' is an actual word, and that it wasn't named after a guy named Evan... But I guess he wouldn't care, considering the type of language he uses... And the fact he likes 50 Cent, the man looks like he was dropped on his head 50 times, so now he can't come up with better words to rhyme with Bitch, or bling... But to each his own. Let me say, there are some talented rappers out there; I'm not saying they are all trash; I personally don't like Rap myself. So MAN ON TV, Don't go around offending other people's likes, what fun do you get from going into a page for fans, and mocking and using foul language about what we like... I guess you really got nothing better to do with yourself, Find a hobby.

Okay, going to comment on the song "EVERYBODY'S FOOL"

I guess, from what I've read, the song is for her sister Cary, or what ever her name is. I'm not a huge, over the top fan of the band... But I do like them a lot; they're one of my faves. (I saw them in the FAMILY VALLUES TOUR, in Orlando... 2007)

The song is depicting in general, people who perfect themselves in the eyes of others, models, pop stars, actors... Those kind of people, who everyone thinks are perfect, from who their what, to what they do, what they wear, how happy they are. But in reality they are far from perfect, and what scares them the most is that they know, and that someday everyone will find out....

This song is supposed to be against people, who use sex appeal to become popular and stuff like that. Like celebrities who use publicity stunts to get attention.

My original meaning was something like a scene from that movie, The Princess Bride, the scene where she's dreaming that she's walking down an aisle and Prince Humperdinck has just announced she will be his bride. Then there's that old woman who yelling "boo! boo! Go on, bow down to her! Go on!" and just generally being nasty and telling people how fake she is. I visualised this as something like that.

Amy is walking along and some people start whispering behind her back about how cool she is, and then one person who isn't blinded steps up and starts dissing her, telling her how fake she is ("Look, here she comes now, bow down and stare in wonder. Oh, how we love you! No flaws when you're pretending. But now I know she never was and never will be, etc."), and it turns out this person is in authority. Amy continues doing what she does, and people begin to realise how blind they were and start doing what that person did, and begin to vandalise her property and steal her stuff, making her miserable, and order her to be crucified. The person who spoke out against her was a past love, and as she is hanging on the cross, dying, people begin sneering at her, "Without the mask, where will you hide? Can't find yourself lost in your lie!" she says, "I know the truth now, I know who you are, and I don't love you anymore, it never was and never will be, you don't know how you've betrayed me and somehow you've got everybody fooled, it never was and never will be, you're not real and you can't save me, and somehow now you're everybody's fool." meaning, 'I know the truth now. I know what you really are, who you really are, you're as fake as I am. I don't love you anymore, you're dead to me. Our love never was and never will be, you don't know how you've betrayed me by revealing my secret! Siomehow, now, you've got everybody fooled, they think you're so good for putting me to death, but you're not, you're a bad person and they don't know that. That "good" personality never was and never will be, you're not real, and you can't save me' just a break here, someone who still believes in her tries to save her, but she thinks she's hallucinating, so she says, "You're not real and you can't save me" 'And somehow now you're everbody's fool, everybody knows what a henious crime you have commited and they don't love you either.' Although, she may not have been crucified, now that I read over this comment, I get the feeling that maybe she was burned, Joan Of Arc style.

What does everyone else think about this? Too Medieval?
