Thoughts pass by like a river flow
Must be hard to keep track where you came from
I float down and stand right next to you
But something is causing a lull in the traffic
The empire is moving, the grass overgrown

I'd blow this whole world to pieces to not be alone
The shovel's been digging all day long
It can't even seem to make a scratch
A scratch in the surface what is the purpose?
I'll always be stopped by the
"why can't i, why can't i be you?"
and put those hands away
I go through this everyday...

Sounds like a radio tuned to whitenoise softer, slowly softer
Can't this thing go any faster?
For everyone to see, it's only killing me

Awake in this cold cell I, I just hope you're happy
Awake in this cold cell I break my body against the wall
Awake in this cold cell... I am my only devil
Why can't I be you and put those hands away
I go through this everyday

Sounds like a radio tuned to whitenoise softer, slowly softer
Can't this thing go any faster?
For everyone to see, it's only killing me

General Comment:i think umedmasa gives the best explanation i totally agree with that.

awake in this cold cell I, I just hope you're happy
awake in this cold cell I break my body against the wall
awake in this cold cell, I am my only devil

as if to say that he's doing this for someone, and he thinks its horrible but really its only himself makeing this whole situation horrible

General Comment:picture this dude sitting an a coffee house, just sittin' there with a notebook..writing ideas, songs, lyrics...etc. he sees this girl, and is awestruck, but is too shy to go talk to her, hence: "an empire is moving, the grass overgrown"

the shovel is a tool...as is his pen, and he is having writer's block...

all in all, i find this song to be very choppy and inconsistant in meaning, but i love it anyways. i think each verse/chorus has it's own feeling and own subject

General Comment:this song is talking about how he wishes he could just be perfect for God.. but no matter how hard he tries.. he always falls short of what God wants.. jason acutally said that in an interview.. he just wishes he could.. he is the only thing stopping himself... so there is a deeper meaning.. but yes.. it was a song he just kind of wrote.. but its more then just that..

General Comment:So on the furtherseemsforever boards.. At FSFBOARD.COM... one of the band members posted in reply to some of the kids questions about the what are the meanings to some of the songs...

Blank Page Empire was written by Jason, while he was going thru writers block.. hence A BLANK PAGE empire.

"Sounds like a radio tuned to whitenoise" Ever had writrers block?, isnt that a way of describing your mind/thoughts.. like whitenoise.. whatever, you can decypher the rest. But thats what the song is about to the singer at least. I know FSF likes writing songs, that can have a universal meaning to every person.

General Comment:i think pablicious is the only one on the right track (assuming i'm write that is) hehe.

i feel strongly that it's about living life without purpose, as he feels that many peolple do... and perhaps feeling suicidal ("put those hands away..") along with it... its' like life is so monotonous and one feels like there has to be a higher meaning to life. Check this out, "Sounds like a radio tuned to whitenoise softer, slowly softer" is a methaphor for a life without purpose... it is meaningless and just fades away... :D what do y'all think?

General Comment:This song seems to be about the futility of life for those who just don't seem to be good at anything. For those who work and work, but just never seem to get ahead in life, whether it be in professional or personal relationships. It shows an anger of someone who just can't understand why some people seem to have all the luck.

General Comment:i always thought this song was about having to live up to what someone before you had done( "I'll always be stopped by the why can't i, why can't i be you") and not being able to do it ("digging all day long/ can't even seem to make a scratch") but in the end realizing that they weren't the expectations of others, but your own expectations ("I am my only devil").

General Comment:the song is absolutely beautiful. and like it was said, the line "I'd blow this whole world to pieces to not be alone" is excellent. Good stuff
