Wake up;
Our past stops right now
I see light, must be you
Watch and learn
Burning it blue
Blood boiling
In slow motion
Only shines
Distortion
Don't be afraid

What?
Are you surprised?
I'm staying alive
I spit in your eye, drive a stake in you
Take me away, take me away
I gave you the world, it was all for you
But I'm sick and tired of wasting time
I want mine
Take me away, take me away
I gave you the world, it was all for you
Stinkin' lies, stinkin' lies, stinkin' lies

We'll die trying to live so long
I can wait, and I should
Leave the phone off the hook
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid

My Interpretation:Ok so here's my breakdown of the song and what it means. Everytime I hear this song I can see it in my head like a music video

    Wake up;
    Our past stops right now
I see light, must be you
(he's telling himself to wake up, he's been outside her house probably in the bushes or something waiting for awhile and he see the lights come on as she has returned home..he has plans to kill her hence "their past stops right now".)

    Watch and learn
    Burning it blue
    Blood boiling
    In slow motion
(he's watching her and learning her patterns, burning it blue relates to a phrase "burning with a low blue flame" which means to be silently and intensely angry, so much so his blood feels it is boiling and time is going in slow motion)

    Only shines
    Distortion
    Don't be afraid
(only shines/distortion is referring to his blade/knife and he's saying to himself as if talking to her mockingly/menacingly "don't be afraid")

    What?
    Are you surprised?
    I'm staying alive
I spit in your eye, drive a stake in you
Take me away, take me away
I gave you the world, it was all for you
But I'm sick and tired of wasting time
    I want mine
Take me away, take me away
I gave you the world, it was all for you
Stinkin' lies, stinkin' lies, stinkin' lies
(This part of this song is not actually happening, this is the violent way he plans to get even with her, he has fantasized it this way and relates to her a a vampire or better yes succubus who lied to him and rejected him and now he wants what is his, wants revenge (spit in her eye) and he will do it by stabbing her and refers to it symbolically by driving a stake in her. this part of the song juxtaposes the calmness of the beginning and end of the song because this is the part playing out in his head. He imagines her surprise when he reveals himself and attacks her,,he knows he's cracked up and doesn't care because he can't have her and if he can't, then no one will.

We'll die trying to live so long
I can wait, and I should
Leave the phone off the hook
    Don't be afraid
    Don't be afraid
    Don't be afraid
(now back to reality, he is inside the house now, he takes the phone off the hook and is watching her sleep as he moves closer, whispering to her/to himself "don't be afraid..will he kill her or wait so he can continue his ritual of stalking her? Who knows? Myself, though the song doesn't indicate, I imagine she is already dead and he lies down beside her on the bed, whispering to her "don't be afraid" and he replays this act out over and over even though he has already killed her.

General Comment:Not that it matters but its definitely not "burning it blue" its "burning igloos" interesting imagery nonetheless. id say yeah this is about finally putting your foot down and ending a relationship with a girl whos a manipulative energy vampire...maybe someone who he felt made him feel he couldnt do without from the looks of it-either way this song is easy to identify with- and has one of the most intense choruses ever.

General Comment:I wanna say it's about getting out of a relationship where the other person is a complete jackass, so to speak. The kind of relationship where the other person feels like you can't be anything without them.

General Comment:i think it's about a stalker, personally. a few tomahawk songs follow similar suit of obnoxious, self-obsessed desires. patton sounds freakishly obsessive about this person, saying "our past stops right now" as if to clear out any confrontation he has had with this person while yrying to get closer to them, and making a fresh start. i also see this in "we'll de trying to live so long."
also i reckon it covers aspects of schizophrenia where at first he's calm and showing interest, whereas in the chorus he seems to be violent and craving the person in question. then, at the end, he's calm again, saying he "should" wait for this person to comply rather than forcing them...

also the fact that it's called capt. midnight makes me feel as though he's watching the person under a cover of darkness.

General Comment:I'm not sure if those are 100% correct, but it's pretty damn close. I think this is their best song, and agree with the people who said it's basically about getting out of a relationship, no matter how hard it is, it's for the best...

General Comment:I can't believe I havn't commented on this song yet! My fav Tomahawk song, If only there were more alt metal songs of such a high calibre...

I love how the song doesn't repeat the chorus at the finish and by doing so completly subverts the pop-song format...

I really don't know whether these are the correct lyrics or not so i'm not going to analyse them...
