Silhouettes above the cradle hold me down
They won't let me go the wrong way
My mother taught me all the fables, told me how
In the end all the sinners have to pay
But

[Chorus]
I don't want to live like my mother
I don't want to let fear rule my life
And I don't want to live like my father
I don't want to give up before I die

He worked so hard his bones are breaking
He wore them down but long ago he lost the feeling
His good intentions leave me shaking, show me how
I don't ever want to end up like he did
And

[Chorus]

When I have kids
I won't put any chains on their wrists, I won't
I'll tell them this
There's nothing in this world that you can't be if you want it enough

[Chorus: x3]

General Comment:When I was in highschool we were asked to find songs that we thought fit our life. I had chosen this one. I thought that the part about the mom, was alot like my mom. Her marriage with my dad was very rocky, and I thought that she let the fear of that rule her life, and that my dad had just given up.

General Comment:Awesome song, i cant wait to have a child and prove to my parents that i can be a "responisble" careing father but yet let the kid have fun and do his own thing in his own way. (suportive, and careing but not tie them down and limite them)

General Comment:this song has a lot of implications for me, cos sometimes i feel trapped myself? i think it's about a guy trying to break way from really over religious parents who are trying to hold him down in their kind of boring life, but he's trying to escape and be free. i've been trying to find the lyrics to it for so long! it's about breaking away from your family who are not understanding you and trying to pin you with beliefs you don't share.

    Beautiful.
Nothing like my life, thankfully, but still a great song.

General Comment:Yeah, this song is clearly about parents trying to control their kids with religion. I think they are christians but they seem very anti-church. That's probably because they are smart enough to realize organized religion is evil.

General Comment:He's defying his parent's footsteps, and choosing to take his own path. This song makes me think of another song, but by a different band. "You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you."

I really like this song, but the anti-religious lines kind of bother me. I really like the vocals though.

General Comment:Hits close to home. It caught me by surprise. I'm goin' through this right now. Dad's workin' hard (still alive) but ain't livin' with us (though not divorced.) The last verse of this song is noteworthy. Smile Empty Soul... I'll hafta remember them.
