Lyrics for Cadence as interpreted by rjbucs28

Cadence Lyrics
Write down,to remind yourself on how it can be
Heartstrings, you're tugging at my heartstrings
Helpless, I have become so helpless to your touch
touch me somehow
Restless, you leave me restless
breathless wait for me

The closer I come to you
the closer I am to finding God
You're a miracle to me
The closer I come to you
the closer I am to finding God
You're a miracle to me

Burning, like Joan of Arc to see you, just to feel you
Cadence, I would dance with the dead cause I believe
yes I believe, yes I believe
Stifle, Paul said that you stifle him
again and again and again

And if these are my parting words
Then this, my last request
Hold me here, until I sleep
If I burn, then I burn for you

I think this song is about the writer seeing God's beauty through his love. Just purely, blissfully in love.

I think this song is about seeing God's love and beauty because or through another's actions as well as through the Scriptures. Could Cadence be someone extra special to a member of Anberlin?

cadence is a word..it means like a recurrent rhythmical series or something like that..but i guess it would make a good name

The line in Cadence has me intrigued, you say "Paul said that you stifle him again and again" -- what does that line mean?
My brother Paul and I both went to the University of Central Florida together (and incidentally played rugby side by side for UCF). He majored in Psychology and I in Philosophy. To save money we rented a house with some friends in Orlando and me and Paul shared a room. Late at night we would have theological conversations ranging from the omnipotence of God to pre-destination. I formulated the line because the whole song is central to the holy spirit (hence; "the closer I come to you (the holy spirit), the closer I am to finding God), and one of the insolvable equations of God was the complex workings of holy spirit, and his involvement with mankind, and that my friend is where the line was created.

Now like I said I am not a religious person but from the days when my dad would read the Bible to my brother and I wasn't there a religious figure in the Bible with the name Paul??? I don't exactly remember and you can call me stupid but I remember that......but yeah like I said this song is beautiful.....and I love that Anberlin is a Christian band and yet you almost couldn't tell.....I mean with the exception of this song and the lyrics to others.....I love that....Anberlin is such a wonderful band......

In 1 Thessalonians 5:19, the apostle Paul writes, "Do not stifle the Holy Spirit"... I'm pretty sure that's what Steven Christian is referring to when he says "Stifle, Paul said that you stifle him again and again and again."

a cadence is a type of identification song...this song is identifying a girl he loves and saying that he'd do anything for her, and if he pays the ultimate price for her, it's worth paying.

wow. litteral interpretation of my freeking life. haha and not just how i feel. literally. its a boy from church. and thats the closest i ever come to him. so the closer i come to him the closer i'm literlally to god. i'm in his house man:) haha but thats not just it. its like hes my inspiration to do something with like my spiritual life. ish. even though thats not what i really mean. i'm gonna go hard here and say its like elykoko said up there. thats how i feel. exactly. he says it good:)

Cadence can be one of the songs played by a drumline or the breaks between phrases in a song. For example, in this song when he says "Cadence" *pause* "I dance with the dead..." would be an example of a cadence [sort of].

It's a pretty word though, and I agree it'd be a pretty girl's name.

"paul said that you stifle him again and again"
stifle means to to die of suffocation.
I think it talks about how the apostle Paul dying for his faith and Paul would die and/or suffer over and over before he gives up his faith in Christ.

Anberlin is not a Christian band....Stephen Christian even said so in an interview

Over the years, many fans have mistakenly believed Anberlin to be a Christian band. However, Stephan Christian denies these claims, stating in an interview, "I think we're categorized like that a lot because we're on Tooth & Nail Records, which, years ago, was known as a Christian label and never lost that reputation. I don't care who listens to our records. If it helps people in whatever circumstances they're in, that's amazing, but I definitely don't classify us as a Christian band."

I think that whether they say they are a christian band or not they are definatley christian lyrics - i am pretty sure this one is about the Holy Spirit and about how amazing the Holy Spirit is and how it helps us to get closer to God and to worship and live for God! It is also amazing music - they are very talented - Anberlin Rock! They are awesome!

Also i don't think its relevant what they say as he said himself (u say bbqhamster - i dnt actually no this personally) its more about what people are getting out of the music - he wants to touch all types of people with Gods love.

Okay, okay. Hold on. They are not offically a Christian band, because unlike Skillet, they do not go out and preach to people. They are like any other band, putting their emotions out through music. However, this emotion, often, involves their religion.

Who knows? Maybe only the songwriter is Christian, and the rest just play it 'cause they can relate? That *may* be what he meant.

Grace and peace, Professor Jimbles.

I have a feeling that the recurring guitar riff before the lines in the verse is a cadence of some sort. I'm not too sure though, I'm a little rusty on my music theory...hmm, a half cadence, if anything. It only goes up a semitone, though. No matter.

Anberlin is a christian band. altough they don't ever push thier beliefes on people, thier music is immersed in it. which i suppose many of thier songs were written on purpous to be both about God AND girls.

This song is obviously about having a boyfriend/girlfriend or even just a good freind that when your around them, you fell drawn closer to God.

Cadence i suppose could be taken for a girl, but that doesnt mean the song changes, only that Cadence is the girl that when Christian is around he is drawn closer to God.

there isnt a whole lot to read into this, other then about Paul. but i suppsoe since hes talking about Joan of Arc, that its most likely the Aposotle Paul. However untill Christian comes out and tells us the meaning of this song, all we can do is speculate

And if these are my parting words, then this my last request: hold me here until I sleep. If I burn, then I burn for you.

Amazing.

Re: the Paul thing, I'm about 9,000% sure that line is derived from a verse out of the Bible.
