Lyrics for The Cigarette Song as interpreted by ruben

The Cigarette Song Lyrics
Bring back the memories,
This one's giving up on you.
I don’t miss giving up on you,
And there's no more time.
Forgive me one more time.
‘Cause I don't want you
Away.
Just bury me I am
Away
Whispered warning
Away
Just bury me I am
Away
And not a day has passed,
That I’m regretting.
The window’s closed,
And she's not letting me in.
One place, one place slipped away and
Missed call, missed calls
I can't stay too late
She’s gone
I will miss her voice, her eyes,
and love's first kiss.
I can't remind you all the time
Bring it back, bring it back
To where we were before
I can't remind you all the time
No, no
Bring it back, bring it back
One place, one place slipped away
Missed call, missed calls
I can't stay too late
She’s gone
I will miss her voice, her eyes,
and love's first kiss.
The day is gone
The sky is blue
I know you're all alone
And the sky is blue
Come back to me
The sky is blue
The sky is blue

Ahhh first one to comment on this song. lol. This song is awesome. It is about a break up and wanting to get back together I think. It is great for when you are just out of a break up. It is just awesome how he sings it.

this song is really good, and your right, it is about a break up, he wants to get back together but he doesn't.
I really like how he uses "windows closed" instead of door or something. It shows that he can still see in, but just can't go in.

i agree its about breaking up, but there is one change for me. The part where he says the sky is blue, well i think he means that he yearns for everything to be ok. so hes tring to convince himself of it...but its not. he misses her

this is my favorite song of all time.
‘Cause I don't want you
Away.
Just bury me I am
Away
Whispered warning
Away
Just bury me I am
Away
And not a day has passed,
That I’m regretting.
The window’s closed,
And she's not letting me in.

i think here hes realizeing that hes been messing up and the whispered warnings were the fights and all the times she cried and all the things she put up with. just bury me i am away, i think that means he was to blind to see the warnings she was sending. he was away. "and not a day has passed that im regreting" he realizes now that its over and he regrets how he took her for granted. and like someone said earlier "the windows closed and shes not letting me in" he can still see her and what they used to have but shes moved on.
i think him saying the sky is blue means the skys no longer black its blue basically hes not how he was. and he wants to go back to when it was good. hes saying to her that hes changed.
im in a similar sit. hopefully she will realize that ive changed and the skies are now blue.

i love the guitar in the middle of the song, its goes perfect with the way hes singing. makes the song great and i think i agree with u guys but why does he say at the beginning "I don’t miss giving up on you" and later say "And not a day has passed,
That I’m regretting"? kinda pulls me in the other direction, but its still a bad ass song

Some people have said that this song is about a break-up,and that they want to get back with this peron. I however disagree. I think it is about a guy who likes this girl, and he trys as hard as he can to get her to "let him in",but time and time again she shuts him down. Therefore,he has given up on her. Despite this he does admit that he will miss certain things about her (her eyes, voice, etc) and loves first kiss. That is the clincher. He wont miss kissing her (aka he has never) but instead will miss out on kissing her for the first time. I could be wrong here, but that whats I got from it,

almost all of thr all american rejects early work is about a break up, the entire first CD. I like it better, but the new stuff isn't all on the same topic so that's a plus. I heard many times and many places it is about Tysons break up with a girl from his home town, he had a lot of trouble getting over her. I guess it payed off.
Anyway, this song has a lot of emotion in it and it's by far the best song by them if you ask me. I think it's about a break up (wow!), and all he wants is the girl back. I think it's about a break up because of lines like "Bring back the memories" and "bring it back To where we were before", I think it makes it a little obvious.

I personally think this is one of AAR's best songs.
Tyson's voice is just amazing on this track, it really is.

It basically sounds like the meanings have been covered. Not going to repeat everyone else's views. lol x

Ummm ok I am a HUGE die hard AAR fan and it's called The Cigarette Song because when they were writing this song or whatever they actually started a fire because they were smoking cigarettes.....then they extinguished it with tea :].
im serious by the way lol

well obviously its a break up but i think its like he messed up alot and finnally she had enough and she cant forgive him. im pretty sure thats it it says "the windows closed and shes not letting me in" so thats what leads me to this. whats so sad is in the end it says "come back to me the sky is blue" like the world is still turning without even noticing things are terribly wrong and the sky is still blue

Maybe it's just me, but I interpret

"The window’s closed,
And she's not letting me in."

literally. She's in her car and she's actually leaving him.

I think he tries to explain the break up better in this song. When in the relationship, this girl must have needed constant reminders of why she even loved him. It's the moments that count...and it sounds like he and her had trouble sharing more moments like "loves first kiss". Instead of romance, they just fought...and these "whispered warnings" were the signs of this potential break up. Tyson kind of lacks personality. Which wouldn't surprise me is why he says, "i can't remind you all the time". He couldn't keep the relationship going because of this. He just doesn't get it or something. Yet he thinks enough time has passed that things could work again which is why he says "the sky is blue, come back to me, the sky is blue". But this girl doesn't think this way. She knows better. Which is why "the window's closed, and she's not letting him in". That last bit could have been literal though, idk. It works as a metaphor for her moving on.
