Taylor was a good girl, never want to be late,
complain, express, ideas in her brain,
working on the night shift, passing out the tickets,
you're going to have to pay her, if you want to park here,
well mommy's little dancer has a quite a little secret,
working on the streets now, never going to keep it,
it's quite an imposition, but now she's only wishin,
that she would have listened to the words they said ...
Poor Taylor...She just wanders around, unaffected by,
the winter winds, well she'll pretend that, she's somewhere else,
so far and clear, 'bout 2000 miles from here ...
Peter Patrick pitter-patters on the window,
but Sunny's silouette won't let him in,
and poor old pete's got nothing, 'cause he's been falling,
and somehow Taylor# knows, just where he's been,
he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul,
now that saturday's gone, well sometimes he thinks that he's on his way,
but i can see, that his brake lights are on...
He just wanders around, unaffected by,
the winter winds, yeah and he'll pretend that, he's somewhere else,
so far and clear, 'bout 2000 miles from here ...
she says she's a tough encilada, fill up with nada,
givin' what you gotta give to get a dollar bill,
used to be a limber chicken, time's a been a ticken,
now she's finger lickin' to the man,
with the money in his pocket, flying in his rocket,
only stopping by on his way to a better world...
if taylor finds a better world...taylor's gonna run away ....

General Comment:I was listening to this song this morning. I love JJ's music but at times have found him to be a little righteous. Then it clicked, Peter Patrick is very similar to Jack Johnson like the same two letters and maybe he's singing on Sunday to try and make up for Saturday night (you know metaphoricaly).

Anyways either way I don't think this song is about child prostitution although I think she's young, so I wouldn't say he's admitting to that, just that these girls 90% of the time have had something go wrong even in a "perfect" upbringing like Taylors and we know we have taken advantage of them even though they are of legal age and fully consentual.

Like all interpretations they are open to the interpreter and probably seen through the interpreters filters ;) Also my spelling and grammer is my interpretation so there!

General Comment:poor Taylor she started out like most kids then took a wrong turn maybe drugs. now she numbs her self to the cold reality and dreams of a better life. peter is fooling around and his wife knows it. he is going to lose her because he's not going to change his ways. Taylor's getting older and realizes that she needs to get out of the business . wishing she could just drive away like the johns.

Song Meaning:This my interpertation of this song, not sure if it right or not.

So Taylor is a girl who has big dreams, but she couldn't fulfill them so she turns to prostitution or stripping in order to make a living (well mommy's little dancer has a quite a little secret,
working on the streets now, never going to keep it)

Peter is a married man who sleeps with Taylor. His wife finds out and throws him out (Peter Patrick pitter-patters on the window, but Sunny's silouette won't let him in). Peter thinks by going to church will fix his problems, but it doesn't ( he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul)

So now Taylor and Peter are two lost souls wandering around trying make sense of their new lives.

General Comment:My little sister's name is Taylor, so for like the past hour I've been trying to find a meaning for this song other than her being a prostitute....and i just can't. The first line: Taylor WAS a good girl. Was, as in, no longer is. "Working on the night shift, passing out the tickets, you're gonna have to pay her, if you want to park here." Park here, here meaning her...vajayjay. "Givin what ya gotta give to get a dollar bill...now she's finger licken to the man with the money in his pocket." Come on guys, it can't get much more apparent than that. I also think (but not 100%) that her "secret" is a symbol for her virginity and, by working on the street, she'll never keep it. 2000 miles from here is obviously a reference to Hawaii-the paradise she dreams of. I love the Peter Patrick verse especially the part about him singing on Sunday (going to church) to save his soul. Reminds me of a quote I heard (don't ask me who said it) "Going to church doesn't make you a saint any more than standing in a garage makes you a car." or something like that. I think sunny silhouette is an allegory to heaven/God and he can't get in (to heaven) because he's been "falling"(sinning) by being with Taylor(on Saturdays), and you don't get forgiven for your sins just because you ask for it. You have to show that you're truly sorry and don't plan to repeat. A lot of people don't think Peter has necessarily been with Taylor but I do because "somehow Taylor knows just where he's been." I also love the double meaning with the brake lights, both a literal stopping to see Taylor, as well as a symbolic hindrance from him reaching heaven.

And to all the people who are trying so hard to defend this song and say it's not about a prostitute:
It's okay for a good song, which this very much is, with a really mellow easy going riff, which this has, to be about something sad or depressing. Every time I hear this song, even after I finally decided to take this stance, I think of my little sister and always will. I say that my sister is Taylor's dream of herself and Jack's Taylor is my sister's nightmare.

General Comment:I believe this song may be inspired by Joyce Carol Oates' short story How I Contemplated the World from the Detroit House of Correction and Began My Life Over Again. I highly recommend the short story.

General Comment:the story is definetly about peter using taylor for sex and paying her, and then he returns to his home where he lives a normal life, but the meaning is about how some people take their life for granted, here this man has a perfect life but he abuses his power by cheating on his wife, and now that his wife has figured it out he's thrown onto the same level that taylor's at, the moral of the song is to appreciate all that we have been given and to not abuse our life and tell ourselves we're such great people when we aren't doing such great things.

General Comment:Taylor is A Prostitute or Stripper, who u8sed to be a nice girl but has just taken a wrong turn in life and peter is maybe one of her clients and he's been also sliding downhill in life , The singing on Sunday refers to Peter going to church, but just going is going to save him from the life he is leading the last verse refers to taylor finding a way out with a maybe rich man and leads to her better life (maybe The man is Peter)

General Comment:There's a mistake in the lyrics. See Taylor is the girl that Pete's with, cheating on his wife and Sunny is his wife. In the song it's "somehow Sunny knows just where he's been." but here it says "Taylor knows."

General Comment:he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul,
    - I think that line is about people who do bad things all throughout the week and then on Sundays go to church thinking that they are going to be saved

General Comment:I always got the impression that Taylor was pregnant. She was a good smart girl who was always careful ("never one to be late") but slipped up and ended up getting pregnant, which is her secret that shes trying to hide from her family. I also think the line "never gunna keep it" could mean that she wants to get an abortion. I could be wrong, but to me Taylor sounds more like a scared pregnant teenage girl than a prostitute.
