Am I loud and clear or am I breaking up?
Am I still your charm or am I just bad luck?
Are we getting closer or are we just getting more lost?

I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words

We live on front porches and swing life away
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

I've been here so long I think that it's time to move
The winters so cold summers over too soon

Lets pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow
And I've got some friends some that I hardly know
We've had some times I wouldn't trade for the world
We chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go

I'll show you mine, if you show me yours first.
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you who's is worse.
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words.

We live on front porches and swing life away
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave ?til the end
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

Swing life away
Swing life away
Swing life away
Swing life away

General Comment:So yeah, a love song, but friend love.

Friend love is best love, because neither person wants anything more from the other person than the sam love right back. Friend love.

General Comment:I dont think this is a relationship song at all. It's just about friendship. Maybe between two people, but just... friendship. Nothing more.

General Comment:I see this song not so much as love between a man and woman, but between the love that friends share. I think its about friends getting through hard times together and always being there for eachother.
"I'll show you mine, if you show me yours first,
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse."
It's about always having that one friend who you can tell anything to and knowing they wont judge you and will always understand. And you and that friend just "Swing Life Away" just as God intended.

General Comment:There really is no one interpretation to a song, and what it means to you is the most important. One thing, that is prevalent in this song is the feel good aspect. it is really meant to be about living a carefree life, and to simply swing life away.

Song Meaning:i think that this song has something to do with homeless youth for some odd reason... if you think of this song coming from the eyes of a homeless youth, it kind of makes sense.

"ill show you mine if you show me yours first
lets compare scars ill tell you whose is worse"
this sounds like teenagers talking with teenagers telling each other their stories and comparing within themselves... trying to find out who has the worst story/life.

"i been here so long i think that its time to move
the winters so cold summers over too soon
lets pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow
and ive got some friends some that i hardly know"
if you have what i talked about in mind then this makes a lot of sense!!! they move around a lot and they dont really know their friends. they move place to place where the weather isnt that bad so they can survive...
im not sure just an oppinion :P

General Comment:Hell this band rocks. Never listened to them be4 today and I love these lyrics, the sound--all of it!

This is about love---simple, pure, and if someone had wrote it for me, I would fall into their arms!

General Comment:I think that is about the innocence of a child and how ignorant they are of the world. If you look at parts of the song you can see how certain things he's saying can relate to things that you did when you were a child. Showing eachother your scars and saying who's is worse. "I've got some friends some that I hardly no, but we've had some times I wouldn't trade for the world. We chase these days down with talks of the places we will go." He's talking about having friends that you just met because you just moved somewhere new and talking about with them the places you want to go when you grow up.

General Comment:No, it's exactly what ewrite said. Well, more or less.

There's a reason why he talks about "holding [her] hand, and "love is a labor." The whole song talks about the crappy life they have: "we live on front porches and swing life away, we get by just fine here on minimum wage." He's a slave for love, and is willing to move around the world in hope of "finding palm trees." He "swings" his life away in hope of finding his own little imaginary paradise -- his palm trees, with his love. But life isn't that simple; life isn't a fairytale -- he's only going to get more scars from throwing his life away as simply as that. for a love that might not even be right.

It seems to fit the idea of young love -- people get too caught up in their little fantasies, and throw away their futures thinking that everything would turn out fine.
