Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you've broken
Don't close your eyes, don't close your eyes,
This is your life

And today is all you've got now
And today is all you'll ever have
Don't close your eyes.

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you've dreamed
That it would be when the world was younger,
And you had everything to lose?

Yesterday is a kid in the corner
Yesterday is dead and over

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be

IThis is a nice meangful song. It is melancholy-but upbeat too. This song asks you if you are happy with your life right now, is it everything you thought it would be? Has life lived up to your expectations or let you down? This song points ou that whatever you have today good or bad, it's all you have. You cannot have the future before it comes. You can live in the past if you want to, but you cannot have the past either. The past as this song says is dead and over. Some people think there is something wrong with living in the past. True, it's not a good thing to do, but sometimes it's your only relief when all you have is an emptiness because of things you have lost. I think you ought to live in the past sometimes and I think you should cherish and remember the past always. I have lived in the past before and will again. It is very comforting, although it is a dead end. I first heard this song on a snowy winter day against the background of snowy farm fields and huge cemtery. Not quite the atomsphere to cheer you up.This song is really haunting.

This is your life is definitely my favorite switchfoot song and one of my favorite songs ever! Period. I fell in love with it the first second I heard it. I've also seen them in concert twice and as ridiculous as it sounds it made me cry when they played it.

Like the others said, it's an eye opener- it just makes you reexamine yourself to see what is really important; it's a motivator- pushing you to make changes you've always wanted to make but havent (out of fear, laziness or other factors)

You can't change what happened "yesterday" move on and dont let it sabotage "today", you have some control over today, as far as tomorrow is concerned who knows, but today is all you'll ever have, so make it good.

And yeah don't close your eyes, don't let life and opportunities pass you by.

As far as this being a religious song, I don't think you have to be religious to appreciate it, you just have to be alive (which if you're reading this you are lol). I'm not religious, and like I said this song is amazing.

As a final note, my favorite part of the song is around 3:25 when he says come on, come...he just sounds so passionte.

I think this song is talking about everything a person is and hey, look, this is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be? Its a real eye opener. We are living our lifes, and when we were younger we had nothing to loose, but now look at us.

whenever i listen to this, it makes me really inspired, as corny as that is, to make sure that i'm living. and that im not wasting my life. cuz all we have is today. life is short.

This song is telling people that they are in charge of their life, and asking them if they are where they want to be.
If we close our eyes life will pass us by and it's all we have right now.
Yesterday is over, and whatever is lost is lost. Today, however, we hold the power to decide our fate for tomorrow.

I love "it everything you dreamed it would be, when the world was younger and you had everything to lose." Not just the lyrics but the way it's sung. It's very powerful. My church small group used this song as a basis for a youth conference we ran on the future and everyone just was silent for like 15-20 minutes after reflecting on it. It blew everyone away and I know why.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
