Lyrics for Meant To Live as interpreted by rjbucs28

Meant To Live Lyrics
Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

Dreaming about providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been living with our eyes half open
Maybe we're bent and broken, broken, oh

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life, yeah

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live (we were meant to live)
We were meant to live

I don't usually do the songmeanings, but I'm gonna guess this song is about a boy who's just trying to find himself and his place in the world. What he's "meant to live" for. *shrugs* I tried. This is my new favorite song, dammit! lol

I think that this song is for anyone who's "ever been through shit in their lives." To me, this song is so powerful. I can completely relate to the lyrics. The lyrics, to me, are saying that even though you're going through shit right now, you WERE meant for something more, so you'll get out of it and your life will get to be worth living again.

This song pumps me right the hell up. We're using this for the theme song to our backyard wrestling show for tomorrow, XCW vs WZW Domination 2. It fits the storyline too. Xtreme & Krazy Kidd both represent Team XCW, and Landyslam represents WZW. All three will be going at it in a 45 Minute Iron Man Match for three titles. Krazy Kidd & Xtreme both want to end WZW for good, and will stop at nothing to do so. In the end though, Landyslam will pick up the victory for Team WZW, because Krazy Kidd & Xtreme's will to kill off WZW will get in the way, and will lose their titles. They were meant to live for so much more (Holding the titles), and they lost themselves (Let their personal issues get in the way).

i was just wondering if everyone on this site is completely ignorant? you all just neglect to realize that switchfoot is christian. "we were meant to live for so much more" refers to gods plan for us. The fact that he wants us to walk in the steps that he has set for us, and that we have a purpose but we all need to find what we have to do. I guess i figured this was obvious to people buy maybe i am wrong?

Actually it's "bent for something more"... But great song nonetheless. And it means... Christianity for me... I dunno. Makes me feel inspired, though. Spiritually? Not sure. Just makes me want to do something good. This song should be selling out. It's cool enough to sell out and not be looked down upon 'cause it's ... selling out!

i cant believe he'd call someone ignorant just because of what they believe this song means. a song means whatever u want it to mean, and just cos they're christian doesnt mean that every song they write is about "god's plan" or whatever. its a f-ing good song. love it. believe that it means wat u want it to mean. they played the song for u to listen to it, not to tell other ppl how to listen to it.

I think that these lyrics are written so the they are universal and can apply to either audience. Christian lyricists that can do this are very skilled. I like the spiritual interpretation listed above. For me though, this song is about a relationship that ended, and a guy who wants a second chance (whether mice and men have second tries ... screams for second life), but he is in conflict with himself over this desire (hoping that he's bent for more than arguments and failed attempts to fly). There also seems to be a strong yearning in the song (meant to live for so much more, but we lost ourselves) contrasted with a great hopelessness (fumbling his confidence ... we [he] wants more than this world has to offer). At any rate, I feel very strongly about this song because it seems to parallel my life. I am back together with my ex-grilfriend after a 2 year hiatus. On the outside I am very happy, but deep on the inside I have a feeling of unconfidence and fear that it won't work the second time around.

- well I think it's a kickin song, and I definitely agree with the Christian reference... they may not be a blatantly Christian band [I wouldn't know] but they've put a very universal thought behind this lyric. But no one seemes to have noticed the throwback to Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men. If you've read the book, you'll definitely see the similarities between the song and George and Lennie's lives.

They obviously noticed that they weren't living their life as greatly as it could have been, that life is so much more than what they have gone thorugh.

I totally agree with the opinion of jvenrick. This is absolutely a christian band. The thing with Switchfoot though is that the songs require a bit more thinking. So I can see how people get confused. But when doing so...I personally realized how true their messages about life and religion are.

yea, they're a christian band. so what? the message theyre sending applies to more than just god and religion. theyre trying to tell people that our lives are meant for more than just buying clothes, caring about money and having jobs. it's about love and helping people.and understanding that we're all connected, whether we're christian or not. if you want to interpret it religiously, awesome, if not, good. im catholic but im not really into looking at switchfoot like that.

this band is a christian band, and as a person who goes to church regularly, i can tell you that this song is about god.'fumbling his confidence, and wondering why the world has passed him by" is the guy realizing his life has been pretty much a waste. "we were meant to live for so much more than this" means we are supposed to be good people, and pass on the word of god. yet, many of us are just going through life, with no cause, and no direction, and kind of wasting our lives. "dreaming about providence" is sayin that the person in the song wants to be a good person, and go to heaven, because he is dreaming about it. now ive written too much, keep it rockin.

OK. For starters, the lyrics are not bent to live. What kind of sense does that make?? OK. Next, Switchfoot is a christian band. All of their songs utimately are about God. This one can mean other things though. Personally I take it to mean that we were meant to live a life with God, honoring God, and bringing pleasure to Him. But it could just as easily mean that this guy is taking a look at his life and just wondering what he's meant for. I guess we all do that in at a point in our life. We all feel lost sometimes and feel like were just ambling along in life. Well whatever you want to think about it, the song is great. Its a really good song, and I love the guitar in it. -Jessica

It is an awesome song and it manages to reveal so much about the fate of mankind. We are meant to live for so much more than we do. My friends have goals for their futures that include "owning my own wing of my house so when my family annoys me I can lock them out and decide which bedroom I want to sleep in." Come on we don't need all that. What ever happened to helping out the people we oppress? Hmm? In North America alone we have 90% of the worlds resources and only 10% of the world's population. We're mean to live for more than buying jeans that a child made so we can look cool.

Christian band or not, I think its a universal message. Like ainz and others above said, to me its about how humanity is meant for so much more then the absoloute triviality we occupy our lives with. I think its a comment on the modern invidual, whos main pursuit in life seems to be money and status. I think its about the humanity and our loss of meaning.

omg, what ainz says describes this song better than I ever heard anyone describe it. I heard this song in about December of last year and I play it over and over again and never get sick of it. We meant for more than what we do, have we lost the will to live up to that meaning? Or is it just locked up inside ourselves, waiting to be awoken?

ok, i just started w/ this site, and i had the impression that we were to figure out what the band meant by the song, not what we want it to mean...but maybe not..my opinon is yes, they are christian entertainers, and most likelly have the desire to spread the love of Jesus through their music, whether is obvious or not, im sure they mean that we as a human race, not just america, but all of the world were meant to live for so much more than what we're living for, most of us live only for ourselves, we worship ourselves, ignoring God partly or completely...we were meant to live in peace and fellowship w/ God like Jesus, and ultimately we will in Heaven..we were meant for Heaven........i just love switchfoot to death and am very glad they're getting so popular, i just wish that people wouldn't look at their songs and go oh, it's about a girl, or something like that..oh well.
much love
