Roll over baby, the time has come
to make a little bit more room
I've hung around you, it's getting tough
I think I'm gonna break down soon

I remember, crying in the park, it was getting dark
Suddenly I looked up
You were my sky
So go on and
Sleep darling
Why don't you pretend we were just a dream
It's cool baby
It doesn't matter anyway
I'm so sorry
We got to the station a little too late
It's such a shame
We just missed the train

Be quiet angel, don't make a sound
Save it for a rainy day
Oh can't you see me, I'm such a mess
trying hard to find my way

Do you remember, wasting all that time, we were feeling fine
Though we couldn't walk a line
We were alright

So go on and
Sleep darling
Why don't you pretend we were just a dream
It's cool baby
It doesn't matter anyway
I'm so sorry
We got to the station a little too late
It's such a shame
We just missed the train

Oh, why'd that train just pass us by
Didn't anyone see
We were stuck at the light
Or we would've made it on time

So sleep darling
Why don't you pretend we were just a dream
It's cool baby
It doesn't matter anyway
I'm so sorry
We got to the station a little too late
It's such a shame
We just missed the train

    ^ real lyrics.

Either they got into a car accident and the boy died.
Just missed the train symbols = comittment
or (Kelly wrote another song called After The Love) Which is about a relationship she ends because of her career. May be it means, they both have different futures? They were inlove but had different dreams?

Idk, you decide. "We couldn't walk a line. We were alright." could resemble being drunk and being pulled over.
Plus, "Be quiet angel don't make a sound. Save it for a rainy day." I have some belieth he died in a car accident.
Also the bridge convinces me.. he died too.

But, those are the real lyrics. You decide..

General Comment:I think this is about someone in a bad relationship with someone and when she broke up with him she realised what they'd had and how much she'd lost but he was too angry to get back with her, so she's trying to get over him.

General Comment:I love that interpretation Gab. I have the exact same thoughts and am going through something similar. This song stood out the most on the Thankful album.

General Comment:i dont think its about breaking up at all. this is clearly about a guy she knew that was a good friend that she was in love with.

first verse: "roll over baby/the time has come/to make a little bit more room/i’ve hung around you" shes saying how she was always with him, always around and always the friend, and he never "made more room" for them to become more than friends... "its getting tough/i think im gonna break down soon" she cant stand it anymore, she needs to have him as more than her friend. also, she feels that everything else in her life is "getting tough" as well, which leads into the next line, "i remember crying in the park/it was getting dark" shes crying over him, over her "dark" life. "suddenly i looked up/you were my sky" when she thought things couldnt get any worse, he was there to rescue her, she finally thought he recognized her as a lover and not just a friend.

then the chorus: "so go on and sleep darling/why dont you pretend we were just a dream/it's cool baby/doesnt matter anyway" she realizes he ISNT thinking of her as more of a friend... basically saying go back to sleep, go back to the way things were... then sarcastically saying to pretend all her feelings and friendship meant nothing. "im so sorry/got to the station a little too late/such a shame/just missed the train" shes "sorry" she wasnt enough to be his lover, she just missed the train and the qualifications of being his girlfriend.

second verse: "be quite anglel/dont make a sound/save it for a rainy day/" she doesnt want to hear anymore about he values her so much as a friend, the sting of it might kill her. "oh cant you see me/im such a mess/trying hard to find my way" he cant see how much he has hurt her by doing nothing and not loving her how she loves him. "you remember wasting all the time/we were feeling fine/we couldnt walk the line/we were alright" shes referring to when things were simpler between them, when their friendship was easy and she didnt have to worry about "walking the line" between friends and lovers, and they were alright.

last verse: "why'd that train just pass us by/didnt anyone see we were so damn in love/and we would've made it on time" shes wondering if she was the only one who saw a potential love and relationship there, wondering how he or no one else ever saw it, and wondering how and why they never made it on the "train" of being in love.

thats my interpretation of it anyway. love this song =]

General Comment:I think the "so sleep darlin, why don't you pretend we were just a dream? It's cool baby, doesn't matter anyway" thing is kind of angry sounding, the way she says it.
It could be that she missed her chance on love or whatever, but I think it might be where she was trying to make it work and he wasn't, even though he wanted it to work too. Does that make any sense????

General Comment:awesome song - very relatable

    lyrics are wrong though its:

Oh why'd that train just pass us by
Didn’t anyone see we were stuck at the light
And we would've made it on time

    not

Oh why let strangers pass us by
Didn’t anyone see we were so damn in love
And we would've made it on time

General Comment:I think it's cool how there can be so many different interpretations for this song. I just listened to Kelly Clarkson's first album last month, and I can't stop listening to this song. I play it over and over again.

To me, this song is about a couple who tried working out their relationship, but failed. Instead of being sad and depressed or angry and bitter, the person in the song is more nonchalant about the break up. It's like, yes, we tried, but it didn't work. It's such a shame, but oh well, life will go on. I guess you can say the song is bittersweet.

I love the metaphor of "missing the train." I think it means that they almost reached a point where their relationship would work, but they were "stuck at a light" which may be some kind of problem they never dealt or compromised with, causing them to miss the train.

I listen to this song everyday because I want the same attitude as the person in this song toward my own breakup. I want to not care about the situation, be more like, "I'm sorry it didn't work out, but oh well."

A lot of the song applies to my own past relationship. The lyrics "Do you remember wasting all the time/We were feeling fine/Though we coudln't walk a line/We were all right" can be about how the couple was happy together, but they had problems underneath it all that they just ignored for a while, until the time came to break up.

I think I'm writing too much. I really love this song! I think it should've been a single. :P
