No more gold lights... for the queen earth...
To keep you warm... in your kingdoms...

High... on the waves you make for us!
But not since you left have the waves come!

The bar is dead...
And the rockets rain is keeping you wet in your deathbed

So high... on the waves you made for us!
And not since you left have the waves come...
High... on the waves you made for us!
Not since you left have the waves come...
(have the waves come)
To Nadja, Love - Jesus

General Comment:This song caught me in a true way. When i first heard it i had just broken up with a woman who i was with for a long time and thought i was going places with. When it ended i moved on and went out with other women but they didnt seem to add up to the first girl.

This song gives me that feel.

"No more gold lights for the queen earth to keep you warm in your kingdoms
High on the waves you make for us" reminds of how she is gone

"But not since you left have the waves come" how things arent the same

"The bar is dead and the rocket's rain is keeping you wet in your deathbed
so high on the waves you made for us
And not since you left have the waves come... have the waves come... "

No matter how many people or ways you try to fill that void .. the standard or "waves" are too hifgh and no one can compare.

General Comment:Deftones have always made amazing ballads, but this one hands down is at the top. I evokes so many different
emotions and makes your imagination go wild about what this song could possibly mean to him. He is amazing at
this. I have a strange fantasy about this song: Ice skating to it. I don't know how and have never tried, but
if I did, this would be the song for my Olymipics performance!! It's so graceful and dreamy, it's perfect for it.
    Just a dream!!

General Comment:I think this song is about me, and how people feel when I leave. Like, Leave, leave.....

:P You know that made some of you crack a smiola.

This song makes me a picture a very grey dull depressing day at the beach with absolutly no swell
Empty ofcourse no surf, no fish, no color.
Thats what I tend to picture when I think about "dude" aaand how it didnt work out, and how life is just a little bit less bright. Sounds kinda depressing but, I dont mean it to sound that way at all,
things just turn grey for awhile. I think. But at the same time paying credit where credit is due. Like because you arent here not that the beach isnt still here, or that the waves arent as big, there arent any more period. Or maybe I just love the ocean, and anytime someone uses it to personify or metaphorically describe, I become super stoked.

Song Meaning:I would like to point out that the title of the song is a reference to the poet Oscar Wilde, who was quoted saying "Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event."

Frankly, it doesn't make sense that Chino would use all the metaphor in his other music and then write one song that's as literal as so many people have interpreted it to be. I think it's probably about something besides death; Chino is not so poor a poet as to use the word "deathbed" to mean, literally, a deathbed. Consider the nature of the Oscar Wilde quote in the context of the lyrics; I'd say it's more about dealing with the passing of time and losing passion.

And if much of the interpretations I read on this site were true, just about every single song ever written by Chin is about death/the end of a relationship/sex. And Chino's life probably just isn't that interesting, considering as he's spent the majority of it either touring or in the studio writing music. Ask any professional musician; it's a lot more tedious and boring than people think it is. Chino is no exception (the recent tragedy notwithstanding).

but honestly, this is the best song to slow dance to/make love to imo.

General Comment:I think this song is a reference to 9/11. The 'waves' could be the waves of emotion that passed throughout the country, the feeling of great loss and despair, as in a 'wave of sadness,' not to mention the 'waves' 9/11 made in the news. I think Chino's point is that this initial sadness was quickly replaced by desires for vengeance and retribution, and that those who died were quickly forgotten in the 'rocket's rain,' the fervor of war.
