Lyrics for All Within My Hands as interpreted by ruben

All Within My Hands Lyrics
All within my hands
Squeeze it in, crush it down
All with my hands
Hold it dear, hold it suffocate

All within my hands
Love to death, smack you 'round and round and
All within my hands
Beware

Love is control
I'll die if I let go

Hate me now
Kill all within my hands
Hate me now
Crush all within my hands
Squeeze all within my hands
Choke all within my hands
Hate me now
Trap all within my hands
Hurry up and hate me now
Kill all within my hands

All within my hands
Take your fear, pump me up
All within my hands
Let you run, then I pull your leash

All within my hands
Under thumb, under to myself
All within my hands
Beware

Love is control
I'll die if I let go

Hate me now
Kill all within my hands
Hate me now
Crush all within my hands
Squeeze all within my hands
Choke all within my hands
Hate me now
Trap all within my hands
Hurry up and hate me now
Kill all within my hands again

I'll die if I let go
Control is love, love is control
I'll fall if I let go
Control is love, love is control

I will only let you breathe
My air that you receive
Then we'll see if I let you love me

Kill Kill Kill Kill Kill

i think a nice solo would have been nice just before the line "I'll die if i let go"

otherwise pretty awesome.

I love his alice in chains mimicry when he sings all within my hands

the screaming of kill at the end just soundsa stupid..

I think this song revoles around how James felt when jason left. Iniatially, jason wanted to go and record a CD with a different Band. THe band didnt want to let that happen so jason gave an ultimatum, let me go or ill leave.....he left. So the songs bout how they tried to hold him back but they were really killing him. They were suffocating him. They loved him so much (no not in that way) that they were really harming him.
What are your views on this?

I think this song is about loving and caring about someone so much, that in ways, your actually smothering or are hurting them (acillatem is right, Im pretty sure its reffering to the departure of Jason)

I love the line "Love is control/i'll die if i let go"
Hetfield really goes for it there.I agree,i think this song is about Jason and how Hetfields grip on the Echobrain project hurt him.Rob really lives up to his name of Baaaad Motherplucker on this song.

On the DVD that came free with the cd they play the whole album through in rehearsal style.when they play this song Rob gets loads of close up shots of his mad finger bass style.I just bought a new bass guitar today,an ibanez BTB405QM.Sounds alot like his fernandez.

This song is not meant to be taken literally. James is conveying his dark side, showing that he used to smother people that he loved, he had his hands around their necks screaming I LOVE YOU, using control and intimidation to keep them close. His stint in rehab gave him the opportunity to see his faults. And express them in this song.

This album was terrible and a complete let down. Their first ablum in 4 years, can you believe that? It took these guys 4 years to make the worst album of their careers!
As far as this song goes its just random noise. I guess we caught them just in time for their mid life crisises huh? I'm not sure if Lars is drunk during the recording session or if he's banging on pots and pans back there. The drumming is so terrible its just unreal. And no guitar solos? What the hel is this?
Those of you who enjoyed this song and album in its entirety are gonna hit me with "we know kirk can shred, he doesn't have to play solos to prove that anymore." Well their job is to make music and sell it. The fans are the bosses no matter what anyone else says, because we pay for their music. When I'm at work and I do a half ass job I get fired. When Metallica does a half ass job they get applauded and told, "so you decided to try something new eh?''

The drumming is 'ok', definately nowhere near satisfactory by lars' usual standards. but that snare can get annoying pretty quickly, it rattles the brain.

WHAT THA FUCK?!! How can you even say that?! St. Anger is quite possibly Metallica's most truthful and emotional album! Is it different, sure, but think about all Metallica's been through over the last few years... James in rehab, Jason leavin the band, the whole napster incident... how could all of these things not change them, evolve them. And in doing this, sure, they're music was different because there was a lot of anger, depression, and raw emotion that they released throughout this entire album. I think it's a masterpiece... I don't think a band has to stay the same throughout their entire career and always write the same type of songs and use the same type of music throughout their entire career to be considered great. I think it is evolving that makes a band great, but I guess I'm not a concieded prick like some other people...

I don't think think this is their worst album. It IS emtoional and it IS raw. I think there needed to be at least a few solos in there, it gets a bit repetitive without them.

I think people have high expectatuions of the band. They will never make another 'Black' album, and it's unfair to expect that they will. Give them a break, they've given us a lot to thank them for over the past 20 or so years.

Any way, back to the meaning of the song. When a song is written it often reflects something of the intrinsic nature and experience of the writer. There is every reason to believe that James is sharing something of his own relational dysfunction concerning the people he loves. Simply put, the need to control those he loves shows a deep seated insecurity within himself.

To misconstrue that love is control is truly a grave mistake that even he acknowledges, as this behaviour kills the very thing he loves and tries so hard to keep. The song emits a strong tone of domestic violence. Love concerns intimacy, not control, and seems to be the thing that is really needed here, but simply cant be attained.

A stuck place indeed, ending with (kill kill kill) actually suggests that there are no answers here and that this kind of behaviour is toxic not only to the victim but also the perpetrator. In conclusion this song communicates a strong anti domestic violence theme. Well done James, thanks for sharing!

First off, I dont know why all you fuckers are critizing this album. Im not going to say that this isnt the worst album they have ever produced because that would be a lie. But think about it. All of metallica's albums have been fucking awesome so it really isnt saying much that this is their worst album. metallica is awesome and i cant wait until the next cd come out summer of 2007!

St.Anger kicks ass. It's just hardcore raw trash metal.Great album closer. The lyrics r 1 of James' most deepest emotionaly and i love the kill, kill, kill, kill ,kill part at the end, i can't help but sing along at the part (as if i'm not already singing along). James vocals i think fit perfectly on this track.
I do wish they could've put a few solos here and there cause thst wuz 1 of the best parts of Metallica (They r perfect at everything).Sure it's not as good as Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning or the Black album, but it sure does beat Load and Reload (which is'nt that bad) but it's Metallica so U gotta listen 2 it

Acetica, you're talking out your ass. The fans are not "their boss no matter what", a band can do what they want no matter what people think. Metallica are allowed to try something new, you're just afraid of new things. Okay, so St. Anger might not be their best album yet, but they're more than welcome to do something different if they want. If you're fired at work for doing a half assed job, that's because you have to do what your boss wants you to do. There's no right or wrong thing to do in the music industry (well, except maybe rap and hip hop, ugh). So just... shut up.

Anyway, enough of that. St. Anger is a fairly good album. Like practically everyone else though, I wish there were a few solos on it. Practically every song gets pretty boring. But at least you can listen to it. The album is actually really emotional. Metallica were going through some tough times before and during the recording of it, which gives it that edge. Can't wait for the next album! =D

If you believe that St. Anger sucks only because it has no guitar solos, if that is your only argument, you have no idea what a good Cd is. A good cd is not made up of guitar solos but of drum solos and bass solos and most importantly, the story behind it. Good albums tell a story, give you something to learn. St. Anger does just that. It is a learning process. I haven't heard one CD that keeps the drumming and bass playing so fast and complicated throughout the whole album. Metallica is not Kirk Hammet. Metallica is Ulrich, Hetfield, Trujillo and Hammet.

I agree with you israel75, Metallica is not Kirk Hammet. Metallica is Ulrich, Hetfield, Trujillo, and Hammet. This song is great, I love how violently the chorus kicks in after the soft melodic little bit. It's definately about controlling the people you love.

okay this goes out to all the bastards out there who say metallica is stupid because they experimented with their sound on this album...FUCK OFF! They are the same old metallica but they are just trying new things. whats so bad about that? I have no idea. St Anger is an amasing album. I just love the raw sound and beat. The drums are awesome and same with the bass and guitar.

I looked up anger on wikipedia and there's a part on Buddhism. I think Kirk Hammett is Buddhist. It says something about purify. It made me think of the song Purify. All within my hands might mean the power to change or improve yourself. Love is control meaning the power and free will can control the anger that maybe James feels about some things in his past. If he lets go it will make things worse. Then again Under thumb, under to myself could also mean him being controled by people. Sometimes someone can love you but still not know how to connect. Let you run, then I pull your leash. Is like a dog being controled by a dominating master. Basically I think it has to do with a lot of bull in this world.

I think that this song is about feeling as if you have to have complete and absolute control over someone to LOVE them. That james feels that he cannot love someone unless he has control, perhaps that he felt he coulnt love jason anymore unless he was the master of his puppets (being in the band). and furthermore, for all of you that say this is the worst metallica album, listen carefully SHUT THE FUCK UP! James' voice could be the best its ever been, in this album and its different! i think they combined all of their other albums into one in this one, and i really like it.

This record is a waste of money. Never again will I be tricked into giving this band another cent of my money, not even for a live show. The drumming is not complicated, not in the slightest bit. Lars is, and has been throughout his career, mediocre at best. His best drumming was on Justice, and he can't even play those songs anymore! Don't get me started on the terrible production of his drums on this record. On the DVD his snare counds semi-normal for Frantic and St. Anger then switches back to Lars beating on a fucking metal garbage can. How ironic, that this sound accurately describes their career since 1990. Down the shitter, into the garbage this band has ventured. They're never coming back. Face it, they are all done. If they had any sense of dignity they'd hang it up, but apparently they know how to piss through money and need to keep releasing bullshit albums to quench their insatiable thirst for loots.

The bass playing on the album is nothing to speak of, Bob Rock is not a good bass player at all. Trujilo however is a solid bass player, so no knocks on him. Bob Rock ruined the band with his bullshit production of their albums since 1990. Yeah, Metallica will not release another black album again, but the true fans don't want another fucking black album.

So some of you actually like this record? BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Fucking sheep, all of you. Buy whatever it is because it's got a name on it, doesn't matter if it's crap, it's METALLICA, it's gotta be good! If any of you are older than fourteen, i'd be surprised. Even if you are older, you need to fucking smarten up.

"James' voice could be the best its ever been" Are you serious? What the fuck are you smoking? His voice has been limited to a couple of octaves, and when he hits the high notes he cracks like a fucking teenager. yeah, these lyrics are "deep" and "emotional" but you know what? I couldn't give a shit less what a bunch of pompous millionaires think or feel. Fuck them and their money-grubbing attitudes. Where are the lyrics from the good old days, commenting on how SOCIETY has problems, and how HUMANITY has flaws by its very nature? I cannot relate to any of these songs at all, lyrically, or musically. I could write better music than this in my fucking sleep. The riffs are "stock" which is a term Lars himself used throughout the "Some Kind of Monster" DVD.

Bottom line is this band is nothing anymore. They are revered, rightfully, as masters of their craft. However, you read about how Metallica influenced all these other metal bands, and it's their first four albums that did this. If any band claims that they were influenced by Black, Load, Reload, or St. Anger, I don't wanna hear them. Cliff is rolling over in his grave right now. If he didn't die, he would have either quit the band, or the Black album wouldn't have happened. No fucking way Bob Rock comes in and changes their sound like that with Cliff around. No way.
