Lyrics for Dirty Window as interpreted by ruben

Dirty Window Lyrics
I see my reflection in the window
It looks different, so different than what you see
Projecting judgement on the world
This house is clean baby
This house is clean

Am i who i think i am?
Am i who i think i am?
Am i who i think i am?
Look out my window and see it's gone wrong
Court is in session and i slam my gavel down

I'm judge and i'm jury and i'm executioner too

Projecter
Projecter
Rejector
Infector
Projecter
Rejector
Infector
Injector
Defector
Rejector

I see my reflection in the window
This window clean inside, dirty on the out
I'm looking different than me
This house is clean baby
This house is clean

Am i who i think i am?
Am i who i think i am?
Am i who i think i am?
Look out my window and see it's gone wrong
Court is in session and i slam my gavel down

Projecter
Projecter
Rejector
Infector
Projecter
Rejector
Infector
Injector
Defector
Rejector

I drink from the cup of dental
I'm judging the world from my throne
I drink from the cup of dental
I'm judging the world from my throne

I think this is a song about how the world has gone bad. Jaymz talks about looking outside and seeing dirt everywhere and the only clean places we can have anymore is our own homes, which we don't have to let the rest of the world inside.

To go even further, I think Jaymz has cleaned up in his place [this house is clean] meaning his head, his life, all the bad things like the addiction and stuff, and that he's going for the world now. He's becoming the Judge, The Jury and the Excecutioner of the world. I think it can be seen by "Court is in session and I slam my gavel down" that he wants to push his will through to make not only his house clean, but also the world outside of his life (=house)

Actually, I think you guys are a little bit off. James seems to be singing a song about someone misjudging the world around them. Someone who believes they are the sane one and everyone else is crazy.

Projector - finding your own faults in others
Protector - taking it upon yourself to parent the rest of the world
Rejector - refusing to accept the truth of the world around you and inside
Infector - being the one with the disease in a clean world
Defector - refusing the way of the world around you

Drinking from the cup of denial - denying the truth, that you are the dirty one
Judging the world from a throne - holding yourself above everyone else as better

The speaker even knows it but won't let himself see - "Am I who I think I am?"

Thats the whole idea of seeing his reflection differently than everyone else. That he is making himself perfect when everyone else can see he isn't.

This person is trying to assure themself of the lie they are telling.
"this house is clean baby, this house is clean"

And trying to assert their position in charge.
"I'm judge and I'm jury..."
"My court is in session and I slam my gavel down"
"I'm judging the world from my throne"

...that's one opinion, anyway...

as i'm looking at these lyrics i notice that it only says the line
"I'm judge and i'm jury and i'm executioner too "
only once, but in the song he definately says it multiple times. then i look closer then realize that THESE LYRICS ARE MISSING ALOT. i mean it gets u the words if u didnt know them, but it's missing all the repeated parts at the end.

and in addition it is "I drink from the cup of DENIAL" , not DENTAL....but at least the lyrics are here, most lyrics sites dont have the new cd.

It's really simple, I think a lot of people are trying to look WAY too deep into these songs by Metallica!!

James cleaned up his act. Now he sees the world-and those certain things he used to do-from a different perspective.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but this song could have REALLY used a solo, more than any other song on the CD. I know exactly where to put it to: right after the first interlude break and right before the last time he says "I'm judge and I'm jury and I'm executioner too" Maaaaaaaan that would have been sweet.....

there is a solo, when played James thought the middle section sounded empty. i used to have a windows media file with the solo on it. It's a competant solo, but it's not exactly blackened.

to me he seems to have caught himself judging the world. now he steps back to see that he is far from being perfect, and begins to turn his attention to his own faults. he knows his own faults, and points an ugly finger at himself. great song with a great riff. i like this song, and i love the album.

Well IMO this is about You're master over youself, and you shouldn't waste your life, and afterwards lie to yourself that you had a good life:

just like to point out that in the lyrics typed here, they go projector, projector... but it should read projector, protector. Anyone who listened to the song sould be able to figure that one out...

I myself think they just used the first words that came to there heads in a lot of these new song. I'm a huge Metallica fan but this new album is just, well kinda retarded. i still like'em and every thing but they should of took as long as they could of to make this album.

These lyrics are about how the USA sees itself in comparison to how the rest of the world sees the USA.

I think this song is about James' vision of the world after rehab. He sees things clearly now that he's no longer under the blurry cloak of drunkenness. That plus -as Mike Mill says- whatever words came up in their had, trying to sound a bit "evil".

I've read all the opinins given here, and I can accept most of them. I also think it has something to do with his rehab, namely that he has changed in a positive way:
I see my reflection in the window
It looks different, so different than what you see

I also think he wants people to show, that he's different than he was before. He's clean, this house is clean (maybe also dirrected towards his wife?)

Now that he's clean, he realises again that the world is a bad, dirty place. And than I sence a doubt in his lyrics, because at first everything is quite positive, exept for teh fact the outside world doesn't really sees that is is ' clean', and suddenly

Am I who I think I am?
Am I who I think I am?
Am I who I think I am?
Look out my window and see it's gone wrong
Court is in session and I slam my gavel down

doubt, and he slams his gavel down, drinks of the cup of denail, agian, it goes bad in my eyes, he's trying to build a wall around him, forget the outside corrupt world.

so there is a little critic on the outside world, but I think the lyrics are (again) more personally, and my conclusion is, that if he will follow up this lyric, it will go bad agian, he still can't face the world, drinks from the cup of denial instead of facing the world, he becomes 'one' ;) his own jury, protector,...

so I fear that his house will not stay clean for a long time with such an atitude.

(if there are a lot of writing mistakes, sorry, I'm not english)

the guitar is awesome in this song. I think the meaning has to do with someone misjudging the world around them.

I just have to say that the "cup of dental" typo or whatnot is the best thing ever. :] It was the cherry on the top of my day.

I would say the closest person before me is "forthelove". But if you are into metallica at all you can plainly see this song is a slam on the self richiousness and hypocracy that is christain science, and their beliefs that kill people, because they tell them only god can save them from illness, not medicine. The reason this topic would be close to Mr. Hetfield is that is mother and father both perished from cancer after refusing medical help because of their christain science faith.

WTF? What idiot thought it said I drink from the cup of DENTAL?

Anyways, I agree. I think it's about looking at the world and thinking everyone else is wrong. Then finally wondering if you are who you think you are? Figuring out maybe you are the wrong one, as opposed to everyone else.
