Saint Anger 'round my neck
Saint Anger 'round my neck
He never gets respect
Saint Anger 'round my neck

You flush it out, you flush it out
Saint Anger 'round my neck
You flush it out, you flush it out
He never gets respect
You flush it out, you flush it out
Saint Anger 'round my neck
You flush it out, you flush it out
He never gets respect

Fuck it all and fuckin' regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself
To let myself go free
Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I it the lights on these dark sets
I tie a noose to hang myself
Saint Anger 'round my neck

I feel my world shake
Like an earthquake
It's hard to see clear
Is it me? Is it fear?

I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!

Saint Anger 'round my neck
Saint Anger 'round my neck
He never gets respect
Saint Anger 'round my neck

You flush it out, you flush it out
Saint Anger 'round my neck
You flush it out, you flush it out
He never gets respect
You flush it out, you flush it out
Saint Anger 'round my neck
You flush it out, you flush it out
He never gets respect

Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself
To let myself go free
Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
Medallion noose, I hang myself
Saint Anger 'round my neck

I feel my world shake
Like an earthquake
It's hard to see clear
Is it me? Is it fear?

I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!

And I want my anger to be healthy
And I want my anger just for me
And I need my anger not to control
And I want my anger to be me

And I need to set my anger free
And I need to set my anger free
And I need to set my anger free
And I need to set my anger free

Set it free!

Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself
To let myself go free
Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I it the lights on these dark sets
I tie noose to hang myself
Saint Anger 'round my neck

I feel my world shake
Like an earthquake
It's hard to see clear
Is it me? Is it fear?

I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!
I'm madly in anger with you!

General Comment:this song obviously relates to anger; even going as far as suicide in result from it hence ("saint anger around my neck")
but right after there's the verse that goes- "you flush it out" this is more of a straight forward lyric and demanding statement as the vocal tone sounds rougher and serious; by flushing it out and taking the correct road instead of doing something ignorant.
So in relation to the fans in my opinion they just want people in circumstances like these on the verge of suicide to just flush it out and move on instead of dwelling on something and hurting yourself, flush it out and keep striving because anger is an emotion, flushing it out is the easiest way to ease it, by just let it go. Almost like cleansing yourself free of it by dealing with it more maturely in a sense.

General Comment:Is it just me, or is the lines "Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets" a reference to Damage Inc when they say "Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, Never happy ending on these dark sets"? Or is it just a coincidence? Or were they just running out of ideas? Anyway, for those of you who hate the album and/or the song, let me just say this... Metallica was going through some though shit when they made this album: James was in rehab most of the time; Newsted had just left; and their fucking producer, Bob Rock, was playing bass in the beginning so when Trujillo came in he had to play bass in a similar sounding way to him so its not his fault. I have nothing that can save Lars, but honestly, his fucked up drums kind of go with the subject matter of the album and song. I'm not saying it's the best song by Metallica, or that it is not the worst song either, but its a whole lot better than most other songs by most other bands. Be happy with what you have people. Besides, they are starting to make up for it with Death Magnetic, so its not the end of the world, yet...

General Comment:BULLIES DON’T GET METALLICA ! LMAO at these try-hards who can’t accept Metallica’s darkness.

If we rearrange the letters in ‘Saint Anger’ we can get ‘Satan Nigre’ which means ‘BLACK SATAN’. Also the first part of ‘Saint Anger’ is ‘Saint An’ which sounds like ‘Satan’. Saint Anger resembles Saint Agnes, a female saint who is the patron of virgins and rape victims, and Agnes resembles Agnus, Latin for ‘lamb’ [St Agnes is often depicted with a lamb]. Also , ‘Anger’ is one letter changed from ‘Angel’. So the name has many meanings and seems to describe a being with many contradictory qualities; an ‘ANGEL OF ANGER’ or a ‘SATANIC LAMB’; a SAINTLY ANGEL who is also a BLACK DEVIL. If you look closely at James Hetfield and the other members of Metallica you can see that all of these descriptors apply to them.

The song concerns James Hetfield’s obsession [let down your noose – I’ll hang myself] with this being who reminds him of himself [is it me, is it fear?] – a person with psychic dimension who terrifies him [I feel my world shake, like an earthquake]. James Hetfield can see the power of this person clearly, but ordinary mortals, cannot [he never gets respect].

Metallica has always been angry, but here Hetfield says [I’m madly in anger with you], meaning that he is madly IN LOVE with the psychic dimension of rage that he co-creates with this Black Devil/Angelic Saint/Satanic Lamb/Angry Angel.

James Hetfield desires that this mysterious entity be empowered [I want my anger to be healthy.. for me.. not to control] and finally.. Hetfield desires that this person reveal the true dimension of Metallica [I want my anger to be me] and [I need a voice to let myself go free].

Musically this album chronicles a massive sidestep away from their stock sound, in order to incorporate the diverse metal sounds in the genre their early albums inspired. They brilliantly distinguish themselves from their endless legion of wuss imitators, who are still struggling, after twenty five years, to get the palm mutings on Master of Puppets right. These losers, who say this album sucks, are A F***ING JOKE.

At least Hetfield is a functional alcoholic who can produce a great album like this while on holiday f***ing around in front of the cameras. He has been astral travelling for more than a decade (Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam) and he is discovering that HE IS ST ANGER. All you gay retarded losers who can’t accept Metallica darkness can just Fade To Black because you are Puppets who have been Mastered.

Have fun on day 2 of Introduction to Guitar.

Song Meaning:for all you who say the drumming and lyrics suck in st anger, and, thy are to old to do what thy use to, lol, i would love to see you do better!!! i am a drummer and metallica fan all the way and the boyz kick azz today and as always. and the reason thy changed thy style in the 90's to the slower type music was only because thy where sick of other bands jumping on the metallica "bandwagon" and coppying everything thy did, and, knowing that NO thrash band would EVER slow down thats what thy did, and yes thy lost a lot of fan in doing so,however, thy where not really true fans anyway so no great loss there! st anger and the rest of that CD kicks butt. way to go boyz keep up the good work see ya @ pokerstars larz and james

General Comment:I'm refering to the album, not the song: Metallica is my favorite band, with very little competition, and i love every second of every song, some more than others. Except St. Anger. Im really sorry that the partying finally caught up to james, though the drugs made for a great two albums (load and reload-- that shit doesnt come out of sober people), but its no excuse to come back from rehab and take a giant shit all over your guitar. the first riff he wrote upon returning, as seen in "some kind of monster", was, which may be the basis of naming the movie some kind of monster, the main riff to some kind of monster. 3 notes. the riff is three notes. they arnt even power chords. and if you have any kind of ear for music you might be able to keenly detect that most of the riffs in the entire album consist of 0-5 on the first string. And is anyone else confused about how the rhyming worked on this album? "Hmm... i dont seem to be able to come up with a rhyme for this line, so why dont i just REPEAT WHAT I JUST SAID??" There are a total of about four legitimate rhymes in this entire album. There are a few decent excuses for the general shittiness of the album though. One being that they had our favorite big blonde faggot (bob rock) telling them all the shit they were writing sounded good, and contributing nothing to the musical aspect of the album, which is a lot to ask from the ALBUM PRODUCER. Another was that jason had just left, and even though he was credited with about four songs in 16 years, he held a major position in the band, and when he left he made them face the depression of loosing their bassist, and also the dormant depression of loosing cliff. I hate to diss metallica, my one and only, but this album plain old SUCKED.
