  My Interpretation:I had always assumed that it was about a girl and her boyfriend. The boy had joined a band and they were going to go on tour and he was going to have to leave his girlfriend home while he was there. This is in the POV of the girlfriend, right before he leaves.
  
  So "Wait (don't leave me) they (the fans) don't love you like I(the girl)love you."
  
  "Pack up(he's packing up), I'm straight enough(she has morals and dreams they can do together instead of him leaving and she wants that to be enough, and straight is the actual lyric)"
  
  Made off (he left mentally, made his decision)
  Don't stray (Don't leave)

  General Comment:Okay let's try this again - being as my last comment didn't go through. Anywho, I don't believe that this song necessarily has anything to do with someone being gay but I understand the reference and it could possibly be true. who knows. nonetheless it has little to do with the actual meaning. I think that the singer is losing someone that she loves (obviously) because he or she is going away either to travel, or "find themselves" or just simply leaving her behind. Perhaps the repetition of the word "maps" throughout is just inferring that the person is going away. ORR, she is saying that maps do not love him/her like she does. Which is a whole 'nother interpretation within itself... maps/traveling/distance/new places cannot love the person like she does. Either way, someone is leaving. She is wanting them to stay. And maps are involved. Beautiful song though.

  General Comment:I find it clearly evident that this song is depicting the angst of being in love with a cartographer who spends countless hours absorbed in his maps, neglecting his paramour.

    LOL:) I've heard this song for at least 3 years now. It always gave me hope, but that is now gone. Still love the song, though. It's unusual...and good.

  General Comment:MAPS stands for My Arague please stay. she loves arague which is why she keeps saying maps throughout the song. arague is a real person and he was supposed to be at the video shoot but was 3 hours late.

  "enough" she's fed up with the situation.
  "oh say say say..." used almost casually like 'oh say' like 'by the way'.
  "wait, they don't love you like i love you" meaning hold on a moment, i love you more than anybody else.
  "maps" could reference to the world and that no one in the world loves that person more than she does or refer back to that suggestion to leave, and that they're looking at maps to figure out where to go.
  "made off" they left.
  "don't stray" they are set on their path.
  "my kind's your kind" saying she's just like the person.
  "i'll stay the same" she's not changing.
  
  It's not a happy song and she's crying in the music video which shows how passionate she is and how painful it is to be in love. She's wearing a bow and arrow which symbolizes cupid's arrow. The repetition of the chorus could be a choice of style or mean something more as though there are no other words to describe what she is trying to say so she has to keep repeating "wait they don't love you like i love you"

  Personally, this song has an entirely different meaning. I'm heterosexual but i'm in love with a girl whom i am with, and who yesterday got into shit for identity theft because she didn't consider the consequences of her actions. She's one of the best people in my life but she has a serious problem with depression and lately i've gotten suspicious that she may have a problem with lying. I want to believe her but a lot of things she used to tell me and is telling me now don't add up. I want to take her away from her parents who she says are awful but i've never seen them be anything but loving to her.
  In the song, i believe "pack up" to mean the best thing i can think to do is get her away from everything, "i'm straight" i tell everyone this but she seems to be the exception to my dicks only rule.. "enough" i really wish shit would stop happening and i wish the lying would stop. "oh say" please tell me the truth.
  "Wait. They don't love you like i love you" - Everyone has been getting interested in her because they found out that all year she's been skipping classes and now she's suspended from school. NOW they care. but they don't love her like i do and it's pissing me off. i don't really care what the hell "maps" or "made off" mean. "don't stray" please don't go off on your own and cut me out of your life, and don't do something harm yourself. "my kind's your kind" she and i can't stand other people but we're the same so it's different. She and i are the same kind. "i'll stay the same" i don't really care what stupid stuff she does, i'm not changing how i see her. Sorry this is such a chili-dog long entry. I am going to start my essay now >.>
