Lyrics for Maps as interpreted by ruben

Maps Lyrics
Pack up
I've strayed
Enough
Oh, say, say, say
Oh, say, say, say

Wait
They don't love you like I love you
Wait
They don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait
They don't love you like I love you

Made off
Don't stray
My kind's your kind
I'll stay the same

Pack up
Don't stray
Oh, say, say, say
Oh, say, say, say

Wait
They don't love you like I love you
Wait
They don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait
They don't love you like I love you

I don't have the cd, but I hear that this song is really different from anything else of their's. is this true? I really like this song, and I don't think I've ever heard another of their songs.

i've never heard it with "pack up, i've strayed, enough."
i'm thinking it's called maps because she repeats the word "maps" a lot in the chorus, like alishajane said. but i don't have any idea why she does.
i don't think this song it too different than any of their other songs that i've heard.

I think this song is in the form of dialogue. One person is talking about packing up and leaving and the other person is saying "wait." The second person is telling them how much they love them, implying that they want them to stay. I think it is called maps because there is a decision about which direction to go in life, to stay or to go away. Just my interpretation.

I have another interpretation, I think that maybe the singer is in love with a guy who she finds out is gay. Read the lyrics, it kind of makes sense.

whoa.. the gay thing makes a lot of sense. maybe it's a cross of both your ideas, doobey.

This song is oozing with emotions, but I can't pinpoint just which ones.... You guys have mentioned a few good ideas, though-- especially doobey's explanation for the title. Anyways, great song-- I'm looking forward to hearing some more of their stuff now.

i always thought this was about a girl who is trying to keep a guy with her, and show him how much she loves him. but then my b/f was talking about how she could be singing to the fans (wait they dont love you like i love you) and she is talking about touring and shit. i dont know really. but this songs pretty kick ass although the rest of the album is wayyy better. in my eyes.

i agree with rocketqueenz. she is singing to her lover who is leaving her. i think the title is very clever since it ties together the theme of the song. i don't know how to explain the connection between the song and title except that it relates to the idea of moving, as a journey and in life.

It's a pretty touching lyric, that chorus. Karen O is a babe.

I forget where I heard this, but I have heard that this song is about Jack White. I'll write back once I check my sources.

It's pretty easy to see that the song is about a lover who is going away for some time. She is saying that she loves him more than anyone that he will meet out that, and more than the maps he is using to guide his journey. When she says "my kind's your kind" she's implying that this is a true love that will survive the distance.

Mattimal-
No, this song is nothing like all of their other ones... buy the CD and determine it for yourself. It's really a great buy. I bought the CD when I first heard Date With The Night on Subterranean, and went and bought it. I liked how the songs can go from drunken yelling to deep, meaningful songs. Unfortunately, YYY's Maps is starting to be really played on the radio... I couldn't believe they were on the mainstream masses. Next thing you know, MTV will start playing 30 seconds of their song on TRL amongst screaming teenagers, then Nick and Brian will be on the cover of Teen-I'm-so-hot magazine.

But I have faith they won't sell out.

I love the way she sings, 'they don't love you like I love you' but I don't understand why the word maps is in there..I think she doesn't completely explain it but it means something to her - maybe this guy moved away or she did.

let me tell you, this song is a gross misrepresentation of what this band actually sounds like. take a song off their album like "tick" or "black tongue" and then tell me about them. i think it was awful for them to release this as their first single off of "fever to Tell"...but. if you like Maps maybe youll like a band like rainer maria. check then at www.rainermaria.com

good.

i think it's about someone leaving her for the world, but she doesn't want them to...cuz they don't love said person like she does. she loves that person so completely...she doesn't want them to stray...the maps kinda sounds like aaaaaah, right? so maybe it's like "god...maps..." as in the person is leaving...there are just maps everywhere. and really, we all have life maps; immagine your life as a map...but all along the way, they don't love you like i love you

I am agreeing with Doobey but maybe this song is about a A girl who has fallen in love with a guy, they get together but after the guy straightens out his life he realizes he is gay "Pack up
i'm straight
i'm not
i'm say say say..."
Implying she isn't a lez but then
"wait... they don't love you like i do..."
she is saying that she would do anything to be with somebody who understands her...or she is saying that if he goes out into the world like that, that the other people won't like him and will criticize him for his judgment in people...
