This is a forgery, this is a forgery
Every single word is plagiarized.
Copied twice and thrice inscribed
This is a forgery. There is a path,

And to get where its leading,
You've got to be sharp and never bend easy
This is an enemy, this is an enemy
Compliments and chemistry.

Cavalier and so charming
This isn't everything, this isn't everything.
I had a fit and you had a feeling.
There was a path, and to get where its leading

You head to be sharp, you couldn't swerve side to side.
I was a razor and you were a straight line.
This is a travesty, this is a travesty,
Every sentiment has been contrived.

Palatable and so refined. Sugar sweet to appetize.
I had a fit and you had a feeling.
There was a path and to get where its leading
You head to be sharp, you couldn't swerve from side to side.

I was a razor and you were a straight line.
This is a forgery, this is a forgery.
Every single word is plagiarized.
Copied twice and thrice inscribed.

This is a forgery. And we were looking out, for some shining light,
But it was casket black, so we would search all night.

General Comment:ya, there's a long pause at the end of mine...
I really salute Chris for trying something so different with this song, and obviously, he wanted it that way...it's a Forgery. I've never liked techno, but it's awesome that he tried something different...artists who try different things are the great ones out there. The lyrics are great, as always.

General Comment:For one I like this song musically as well as lyrically. It's not techno, it's just a drum machine and synths.

Secondly, to michirux3: Razor's aren't jagged, not at all...

he just complete's a metaphor here:
"I had a fit and you had a feeling.
There was a path, and to get where its leading
you head to be sharp, you couldnt swerve side to side.
I was a razor and you were a straight line."

you had to be sharp - I was a razor
you couldn't swerve side to side - you were a straight line

    razor's are sharp,
    straight lines don't swerve.

However, like JSull said, it could be a cocaine reference.
It could also be a suicide reference, like, cutting a straight line on a wrist.
Both of which seem to be acts done to get rid of pain, so yeah. But then again, we may just be reading too much into it...

General Comment:i sort of see where the person was going that said the song was "a forgery" cus i guess it wuld make sense that way...

but i kinda think its about a relationship, i duno or mayb i jus relate every song to relationshps...

"There was a path, and to get where its leading
you head to be sharp, you couldnt swerve side to side. I was a razor and you were a straight line." makes me think that he is saying that in his relationship, in order for it to succeed, "you culdnt swerve side to side" and he was a razor, meaning he swerved, cus razors are jagged, and the girl was a straight line...meaning it was him that didn't fit in the relationship.

    and when it says
"This is a forgery. And we were looking out, for some shining light,
but it was casket black, so we would search all night."
...it makes me think that he is saying no matter how hard they tried, the relationship could never work, making it a forgery if they stayed together.

General Comment:i've always thought thi song was about a lover or maybe a love letter..
    "Every single word is plagiarized"
maybe it was what she said, or what she wrote?

    "Compliments and chemisty.
    Cavalier and so charming"
all the things she was pretending to be or do

    "every sentiment has been contrived"
this makes me think it was a love letter..maybe an 'I love you' at the end?

    whatever.

General Comment:I think most of you are idiots.

It's a good song. It's your problem if you only like one kind of music and say everything else is crap. "OH, TECHNO IS SHITTY. LOLOL. I'M CLOSED MINDED. THIS SONG IS BAD CAUSE IT HAS TECHNO LOLOLOL"

and someone just had to through this in, "I mean obviously with the rest of the lyrics, it's not just about that...but also about a girl."

    good god

General Comment:I love this song. The ability to put yourself out on a limb and experiment is what makes an artist great. It is also one of the reasons I am so obsessed with Dashboard!

General Comment:Soberbeautiful...what i was told was that the label kind of made him add songs...he wanted to leave the c.d. how it was, cause the original c.d. did not have that song on there. I know someone who has it without the 2 extra songs. So he added songs...I didn't say he didnt' like them, I'm just saying he wanted to leave the recordings alone. no need to get all snappy with me!

General Comment:Runner21... why do you think that Chris didn't want to record this? And do you honestly think that he'd record a song and put it on an album if he didn't want to or like it?
