this song makes me think of mine and my dad's relationship. . . he wants me to be perfect, and eventually, i got sick of attempting to live up to his standards, so now i do everything possible to show him that i'm not like him, and i can't be the ideal person that he wants me to be.

it's my fav. linkin park song. it's kinda weird though because it's the only one i relaly listen to of them because since i'm "prep" it's not like people expect me to be depressed...my father is a drug addict. meth to be exact so it's like my mom is really tryig to get me to be something and someone i'm not. she can't accept me for what i want to be..

dude methmeth is so exactly right! see, i hang w/ goths and im bi and im not perfect, i dropped out of my schools magnet program, she feels im wasting my 138 iq, i listen 2 z-rock all day. oh, and ive dropped from an all-a's student 2 a sometimes-B student. well u know wt fuck her cause she is a bitch. (plz dont think im dorky for gettin a's and b's, i dont work 4 them)

neway, sorry i just had 2 get tht off my chest publicly cause i just had a real rough day. someone said there was suicide in here, i disagree. would you let yr parents drive u 2 suicide? i dont think so. what he means by numb is tht he has stopped carin altogether, he wants 2 b a good son but its become impossible so hes not gonna try nemore. ths song remins me of my life.

I love this song... it's about taking charge of your life and not succumbing to someone else's ideas or pressures. love it. it reminds me of me and my dad... although I haven't become numb to him, I kinda have to turn off his ideas when I'm making a decision about something, because he always tries to make the decisions for me. XP

I think initially when you listen to this song, it's parent hating music however after a few times it's starts to mold around your own personal life. For me, my teenage daughters have made me numb from their choices to constantly berate my value system. When I listen to it now, it helps me release the anger I feel toward them. Bottom line is, in the end, aren't we all just misunderstood?

though it may pale to what some of you have experienced this, as being a member in the field of emergency medicine, means just how hard it is to live up to other people's expectations

when you arrive on scene to an emergency and a mother is crying over an infant that isn't breathing expecting you to save it even when you know there is no hope, even when you have to try your damndest to bring it back to life

after years of this kind of pressure and, yes sometimes failure, you just become so callous and numb that you sometimes question your own humanity

sure there is nothing more rewarding than saving a life but on the flip side - especially when someone like a parent looks to the nearest person to blame and that person is you

you never forget the look on their face

that goes for doctors, nurses, medics, firefighters, police, everyone in ems and medicine as well as our toops

judging by the video its meant to be about teenage drama but like songmeanings.net says a song can mean different things to every person

This song is pretty obvious. The person is undoubtedly depressed. Trust me. When you're depressed everything you do is wrong, and everything is overwhelming, and you are (duh) NUMB! Not physically. emotionally. Psychologically. So they didn't live up to someone ELSE's expectations for them, and they feel like a loser because of it.
So- like I said, this person is depressed, and all they want is to be their own person, instead of what other people want them to be. Don't I know how that feels.

I'd say its about having to live with an abusive parent and slowly turning into them. Violent, Short tempered. and because they despise his father hes gotten useed to living with him and is numb to the feeling

well this may not have anything to do with wat has been said lately cos iseriously cant be bothered reading all 7 pages and i only read the first.
But to those people who say that a band isnt good once they are known are dicks, it means they have made it, they are on the other side oof the music barricade now. Just because more people like them now dnt mean that they are any less of a band. If you dnt like them now just because every one else does then you truely arent a true fan. ANd how can you make judgement on kids wearing linkin park shirts think they are top shit. You dnt even know them, they could be a true fan, unlike yourslef. Just cos they are younger doesnt mean they dnt have an opinion and can understand what the song means. If you must look down upon the so called posers, jsut point and laugh if you must but dnt make judgement. I ve liked linkin park since i was 11 and im now 17 that 6 years, so does that mean when i was younger i was just posing, no it ,means that when i was younger i was the one supporting them when they started out. I have all their underground stuff too, but hey if i was wearing a linkin ark tshirt according to some of you i am a poser!! Dnt make judgements on peple you dnt know.

On a brighter note i think this song is about trying to live up to something and you cant or wanting to do someting and others dnt agree with you. whether it is your mum dad sister bro, bf gf uncle aunty cousin or wat ever, it cna be interpreted in so many ways. and can mean so many things to so many different people. One of my all time favourite song my my all time favourite band.

to those people who said linkin park sucks u are just wasting ur time. i myself think LP is and average band it has sum songs dat i hate and sum that i like like this one. if u dont like this band then wtf are u doing on this forum? and if u think people will change just becuz of ur opinion then ur sadly mistaken so why don't u just go compliment bands that you like and stop uselessly criticizing other bands. if you've read these coments then you'd tell that everyone here is in favor of this band while you needles in this haystack will barely be noticed...so just giv it up

speaking on a lighter subject, i agree with everyone who thinks this song is about pressure, whether from family,friends, or anyone else. i can relate cuz my dad's always forcing me to play piano and get straight A's, and my mom wants me to play piano and i tell them that i fukn cant take it anymor but they don't care and even resort to physical violence. (that's probably y i'm so negativ all the time). and i can't wait til im 18 so i can get out of this dump and finaly liv my own life and stop "walking in their shoes"

I love all the songs on Meteora, but the melody of "Numb" stood out to me from the beginning. It's amazing to me how LP created so many feelings in one song, from frustrated hopelessness ("feeling so faithless/lost under the surface") to anger ("all I want to do/is be more like me/and less like you") to COMPASSION ("But I know/you were just like me/with someone disappointed in you"). When I listen to this song, I have my own music video in my head!

wow! An awsomely good song. I find LP a very rocking alternative band. How they fuse crappy rap to awsome rock amazes me. This was one of my friends favorites songs before she moved. Its like how i remember.

This song really relates to me. It reminds me a lot of a "close" friend I have, Chris. He's been through a lot, including his recent parents death (both of his parents) and so much more. But I'm constantly being pressured to live up to what HE wants me to be...and I try so hard but in the end I just feel like crap.

I love this song. A lot of Linkin Park's songs relate to me.
