i love this song; to me, its about the burden of having to live up to someone else's expectations, but you will not. becoming "numb" means he no longer cares about this person whatsoever, and he will not live up to his/her expectations any longer. love this song, because although that is the ultimate meaning i got out of this song, i believe that it can be interpreted in many different ways. so, please, leave some comments =P (finally, a song's first comment will not be "this song is great." and left at that =P)

LOL well, chupmunk777 this is another song i agree with you on. This song is about how people want you to be like them or someone like them but you notice that you cant and you want to be your own person. You get to upset that you cant even take the pressure. That you blow up on them and forget that there a person or your loved one that only wants the best and doesnt want you to go through the same stuff they when through "But I know I may end up failing too".

this song reminds me of my mother...
wanting me to be the perfect little daughter she always dreamed off.... not letting me be, making me feel like she's ashamed of me because i'm not like all the other little girls.........

I agree with all of you. I, being the second oldest (and smartest) must always have the best grades of my family. I heard this song right when my grades were starting to drop and it honestly made me feel so fucking good...it was like Chaz and Mike were saying the things I don't have the guts to. But yeah, this song's about being sick and tired of being pushed around and being forced to do what you hate...being forced to accomplish what your tormentor can not. It could be about school, sports or even a job, but I personally see it as school.

This song is exactly that, about being with someone no matter who it is, but they are expecting you to be someone you can't be. It's about someone who wants to make up for their mistakes through you. This song to me is about my relationship with myfather. In his eyes I have never done anything worth praising. Every step that I have taken is another mistake to him.

I think this song like some of you said is about doing what other people want you to do so they'll be happy. Nothing you do is never good anough and your tired of being what they want you to be like. It's just about not being yourself to please someone so much that you've lost who you really are and just feel numb. Reminds me of parents wanting to live through their children as well wanting a beter life for them than theirs. "You were just like me

anyhow this band isn't the greatest but i'll admit this is one of thier best songs! It opened up my eyes i don't have to be who my mother and father push me to be. I CAN be an actress. At one point in my life i did become numb and i did exacly what they wanted me to do.I messed my image of myself i was so fucked up i had an eating disorder and i had no idea, i lost myself. This song came on when my mom was bitching at me in the car and i just put it on full blast and started crying. I couldn't take it anymore. Adnb i'm really glad i heard it!!!

This song is kind of self-explanatory. It reminds me most of my parents. My mom pushes me to have the kind of relationships she's used to, instead of forming my own freaking relationship. And my dad, he'd just rather me quit something than push myself and get disappointed in the end (hmmm, ironic) anyway that's what I have to say about this song. Oh, and don't take this personally, mysugarhigh69, but you have some freaking issues.

this song is terrible. no depth in the lyrics, and the guitar work is crap. once again linkin park has managed to follow the EXACT SAME formula for their new songs. just listen to crawling, and compare this one and that. Its time for MTV to start playing bands with talent, like The Beautiful Mistake, and Emery, instead of this mindless crap, with lyrics a ten year-old could have written.OoOo what an amazing theme, feeling numb to a relationship. honestly, can this band evolve at all?

Excuse me Lauraleye, i didnt realize manufactured bullshit meant so much to you. Ok, so a ton of people can relate to this song, big deal. it takes nothing to write down a crappy experience and sell records. It takes a lot more to to translate those words into something beautiful, with melody lines, and musical talent. If you like what the record companies sell for money, then by all means, listen to it. im just giving my opinion about the band.

hey, to people that badmouth linkin park, thats cool with me that you say that, you have the right to say what you say and i respect that, and to the people that badmouth lp haters, leave them alone,just because somebody disaggrees with your views doesnt mean they are wrong,just repect what they have and leave it at that. i love lp and im ok with people not liking them. as for the song, i aggree with everybody else,pretty much its a letter to parents that force themselves apon you, and you just dont want to be them, you are you and they have to accept that.

I don't usually go out of my way to criticize bad bands, but let me just say that nicklav is right on. It's not that we don't understand Linkin Park's lyrics; i mean, whats not to understand, they're so clear and straight forward...but THATS THE PROBLEM. try putting some depth in to the music, please.

i like this band and this song and i agree 2 other ppl that it reminds me of my mom...kind of...im an only child and i do well in school and stuff and my mom doesnt care anything about spots (thats good bc im like notttttttttt a sport person), but i feel like she thinks im like 5 years old and likes crowds over me and protects me 2 much...i think the music video is really sad and somedays i feel like her...a lot...

hey Loco_x3 , you must be fucking retarded if you honestly think this song sucks or that Linkin Park sucks. personally i think Linkin park kicks ass. An excelent mix of heavy meatal style singing and a rapper who acually sings about shit other than cars or his homeys (except for of corse 2pac because he was just fucking alsome, and also excluding kotton mouth kings because they sing about pot, kick ass rappers) i think likin park is a wonder breath of fresh air an should be forever know as one

I love Linkin Park. I can personally relate to most of their songs. To me, "Numb" is about someone wanting you to be succesful in their eye, meaning no matter how much you achive, it won't matter to them unless you are doing what they have planned out for you. When people here this song, they may realize it is happening to them and they should follow their own dreams.
