Lyrics for Breaking The Habit as interpreted by ruben

Breaking The Habit Lyrics
Memories consume
Like opening the wounds
I’m picking me apart again
You all assume
I’m safe here in my room
(unless I try to start again)

I don’t want to be the one
The battles always choose
‘Cause inside I realize
That I’m the one confused

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
I don’t know why I instigate
And say what I don’t mean
I don’t know how I got this way
I know it’s not alright
So I’m
Breaking the habit
Tonight

Clutching my cure
I tightly lock the door
I try to catch my breath again
I hurt much more
Than anytime before
I had no options left again

I don’t want to be the one
The battles always choose
‘Cause inside I realize
That I’m the one confused

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
I don’t know why I instigate
And say what I don’t mean
I don’t know how I got this way
I know it’s not alright
So I’m
Breaking the habit
Tonight

I’ll paint it on the walls
‘Cause I’m the one at fault
I’ll never fight again
And this is how it ends

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
But now I have some clarity
To show you what I mean
I don't know how I got this way
I’ll never be alright
So I’m
Breaking the habit
Breaking the habit
Tonight

Ok, I want to get this straigt. This song is not about commiting suicide. It is about breaking the habit of trying to commit suicide. Why would they write a song about killing yourself?

This song is about self injury/cutting one of my all time favorites since I indentify with it, and partly because the lyrics are very true to the feelings attached to self injury you can tell the writer has actually struggled with this. Awesome song awsome writing.

This song, and many others by Linkin Park, annoys me. Not because of the tediousness of judgement because of musical taste or genre preferences among young people. But more because it promotes a message. It's all very well writing songs expressing deep and dark emotion but the videos are triggering, the lyrics are suggestively advertising self-harm and there's too much depression programmed into young people by the media and bands like this. I'm a 16 year old female, and i've seen how musical culture effects young people. There are kids cutting and committing suicide everywhere and i think it's dangerous. 12 and 13 year old kids aren't going to decipher lyrics line by line and realising it's about breaking the habit of attempting suicide. Targetting this stuff at young people who are buying the records is irresponsible and stupid. It's not about musical taste anymore. It's unhealthy that people of such a young age should be so over-exposed to the promotion of suicide. They only need to be aware it happens. And the song's crap anyway.

I don't think music makes you suicidal that's something you do you yourself, if you became a cutter or depressive because you heard it on a song you're a moron coz you're not makin your own choices.

Music it's about espressing your feelings if this guys feelings are dark and depressive, maybe makin a song it's their way of dealin with it; and maybe some people relate to it because makes you realize you're not alone, and helps you cope, then it isn't such a bad thing, is it?

For me this song it's about try to get away of any kind of self-destructive habit, drugs, alcohol, cutting, smoke... and after a long struggle find the way out.

ya i see how you guys interpret it, i don't really care to much but some of you (or maybe just one of you) says how you have to build the song around the lyrics not vice versa. that's what i liked about classical rock but todays music is meant to sound better and they put in the lyrics nicely.

if you don't like how LP did it i think you should check out green day, they're lyrics kinda suck but they're songs are catchy

this song means the world to me... I was having a hard time dealing with my past. I was only 15 years old and i already felt like i had messed my life up beyond repair... so i tried taking the only way out i knew. Then my phone rang, (and part of me was wanting to stall, i guess) and my girlfriend was all excited about this song she had just heard, so she played it over the phone, and i started bawling like i haven't done in years. She wanted to know what was wrong, and i was too ashamed to tell her, so just hung up. 30 minutes later (around 1 in the morning) she showed up at my house demanding to know (i guess she had suspected). I broke down and told her, and she's made sure to be there for me ever since. We've been going out for about 1 year and a half now, and i love her more than i've ever loved anybody in my life, so i owe a lot to this song.

I think this song will mean something different to anyone who hears it. In my personal opinion I can relate it to an eating disorder. The "picking me apart again" part could be like being too critical of your body. I can also see how it would be about cutting.

All in all, I think we can ALL agree that this song is good in its own right, right? Despite what it may or may NOT mean, it's still a good song, in my opinion. Oh, yeah and the video was TIGHT!

I believe in the booklet that came with this with the lyrics and stuff, didn't it say that THIS was the song that took however many years to put together? I was relieved when they came out with the video for it, I mean something that they worked on for a long time DESERVED to be turned into a video. What do y'all think?

People... you are crazy. I swear. Reading your commments. ... whoo... make me go in to crazy over analytical migrany mood.
This is not about kiling himself. He's talking about breaking the habit of fighting, and he's not sure how he got that way. When he says, "I'll paint it on the walls"... It could be with spray paint...not blood.

I'm a single dad of several teens and I typically get up each morning with them and watch tv with them while they wait for the bus. My kids all like Linkin Park. I saw this video and listened to the song and it disturbed me a bit. I don't think anyone who sees the video and listens to the lyrics can miss the obvious suicidal overtones presented in the video. The part where the character is jumping off of the building..or falling backwards up the building. Perhaps the video is purposfully vauge so as to avoid any direct confrontation with responsible authorities who would work to tend to thwart any irresponsible messages from being sent to teens and those listening to this stuff. At any rate I think its dangerous in many ways to place thoughts of suicide or glorification of suicide. For those of you who see a psoitive message here thats great, and I hope that was the intent of the video, but I have my doubts. For the rest of us and especially to the young people who are going through the changes and tough times that this fast paced and insensitive society places us all in, I want to be careful what you let in your psyche at this age. (teens and early 20's). These are confusing years that leave you very susceptable to depression and confusion as you find yourself. All that is somewhat natural, and it'll pass as you move through it. Its part of life and can be more intense for some than others. Trust me it'll pass. Take my advise and resist the BS quick way out. Take the pain and let it motivate you toward positive choices. Substances are the cheap and easy way out. Given to you by your whacked well meaning parents or by your peers, its many times the short term solution which creates a worse long term problem. I've seen a lot in my life, and I tell you truthfully that those who have the best life are those who take the lemons and make lemon aid. Look at every adversity as a challenge and an opportunity to shine. There are alot of hurting people out there who can relate to you and who you can help and love. But they need a way up, not a way further down. There is nothing glorious about hurting yourself or thinking about suicide. You are releasing the energy of your pain out in a negative destructive way. If there is a dark side, a devil in this world the only way to beat him tormenting you, is to take the pain and turn iti inot positive energy. Everytime the torments come you start praying for someone close, you call a loved one and lift them up, or you do praise God for the good you see in this world (its all around). If there is a devil he wants the pain to reproduce more pain, and he'll back off when it starts producing positive energy and actions. When you get depressed about your circumstances, use that energy to make one concrete change in your life to change that circumstance. Overcome evil with good. It sounds corny but it works. Either way you look at it, turning your pain into positive actions can't fail you. And trust me, for most all of you, alot of the depression will pass with time and is a natural change. Also I know many have trouble with parents and authorities who restrict you and seem like your biggest enemies. I know its hard, and we parents don't fully understand all you are all going through and we forget how hard it is just to be young, but look, we love you, and we need each other in this crazy world. Be peacemakers and be positive. Realize that your perspevtive at this time in your life is unique and temper your anger with understanding. In other words realize that you are going through changes and that all of your feeling may not be 100% coherent to your parents. And remeber life id full of ups and downs. The tough times make the sweet times sweeter.

Anyway I wish you all peace and success and I pray that you'll resist any thoughts of harming yourselves in anyway. You are our future and we need everyone of you.
