I used to really love this song. The meaning of the song is creepy, though. It's about a person that wants to break the habit of being alive and dealing with the pain of his past. This song is really quite a deep song.

Personally, this song to me is about self-mutilation, and MethMeth hit it dead on. But I think that that's only because I personally have the same problem, and I put the song into terms that fit my circumstances.

Depending upon one's situation is how they will interpret this song. If someone has a drug problem, they might suggest the song being about drug addiction. Someone else who has a problem with staying committed to one person may propose this song as being one talking about "breaking the habit" of cheating on their spouse or significant other, and becoming a faithful and loyal lover.

No matter how you slice it, different people with different problems may have their own suggestion for the true meaning of this song. The only people who know what the actual meaning is are the boys of Linkin Park.

I'd also like to point out that at the end of the music video for the song, "Chester" ends up falling off the roof of that high up building, and (I suppose) dieing.

I believe that the lines "I'll never fight again. and this is how it ends", and "I'm breaking the habit tonight" have two meanings. They could refer to suicide as the way out, but noone can ever be sure.

I also believe the lines could mean that he's willing to "break his habit" of self-mutilation and get help or to just stop himself from doing it with strong self-will.

When I hear the "I'll paint it on the walls", I mentally add "with blood", because that seems like what Beatrix would use. And techically, for all of the events, she was "at fault" for the El Paso Massacre. Did she truly believe that Bill wouldn't find her? And if she didn't then did she really expect a soft reaction from Bill? For the "I'll never fight again And this is how it ends", it reminds me of Bill's last steps and I think that it could easily be put in the context of the possible end she may have at the hands of Nikki Bell later on in life.
