Lyrics for Hit The Floor as interpreted by ruben

Hit The Floor Lyrics
There are just too many
Times that people
Have tried to look inside of me
Wondering what I think of you
And I protect you out of courtesy
Too many times that I've
Held on when I needed to push away
Afraid to say what was on my mind
Afraid to say what I need to say
Too many
Things that you said about me
When I'm not around
You think havin the upper hand
Means you got to keep puttin me down
But I've had too many stand-offs with you
It's about as much as I can stand
Just wait until the upper hand
Is mine
One minute you're up top
[The next you're not]
[Watch it drop
Making your heart stop
(Just before you hit the floor)
One minute you're up top
[The next you're not]
[Missed your shot]
Making your heart stop
(You think you won)
And then it's all gone
So many people like me
Put so much trust in all your lies
So concerned with what you think
To just say what we feel inside
So many people like me
Walk on eggshells all day long
All I know is that all I want
Is to feel like I'm not stepped on
There are so many things you say
That make me feel like you've crossed the line
What goes up will surely fall
And I'm counting down the time
Cause I've had so many stand-offs with you
It's about as much as I can stand
So I'm waiting until the upper hand
Is mine
One minute you're up top
[The next you're not]
[Watch it drop
Making your heart stop
(Just before you hit the floor)
One minute you're up top
[The next you're not]
[Missed your shot]
Making your heart stop
(You think you won)
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
Now it's all gone
I know I'll never trust a single thing you say
You knew your lies would divide us
But you lied anyway
And all the lies have got you floating
Up above us all
But what goes up has got to fall
One minute you're up top
[The next you're not]
[Watch it drop
Making your heart stop
(Just before you hit the floor)
One minute you're up top
[The next you're not]
[Missed your shot]
Making your heart stop
(You think you won)
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
Now it's all gone

The song to me, is about two good friends who after a gradual loss of mutual trust and friendship throughout the years, flip out on each other one day and one is crushed (socially, not physically) under the other.

I think the song's about someone who is sick and tired of seeing someone they know pretend to be someone they're not just to gain popularity or respect, then that person's lies are discovered and all they've ever "been" is all gone... I think it's one of Linkin Park's best songs ever

Jesus Christ, just reading these lyrics makes me cringe, it's just marketing angst, it has no meaning.

Oh noes
i'm so unhappy
got nothing inside of me
waaaaah! life sucks! waaaah!

It's like reading the diary of an adolescent middle class goth. 'Middle class' being the key term here.

i tend to think a lot of songs are about suicide (have you noticed that certain people always have the same sort of interpretation no matter what the song?) and this one too. but this one is sorta different. i actually think its about the friend of the person that has the problem (drugs, suicidal, self injury, alcohol) and a lot of people know about the problem. the friend defends their problematic buddy but is getting sick of the endless cycle that comes with many of these problems. i want to think that the problem is potentially lethal because of the "making your heart stop just before you hit the floor" part. like hes saying youre going to die because of your obsession/addiction and i wont defend you then. the song talks about a lot of lying on the part of the messed up one and fights they have because of it. its pretty hardcore song if you take it seriosly (which apparently a few dont).

hmm i just had a thought that it could be about knowing someone whos bipolar. all of the ups and downs of manic depression. fits pretty good. oh well its open to interpretation those are just a few of my ideas.

Vannaroth, this is the second time I've seen you with an LP hate post. What, are you going around to each individual song and saying it sucks?
Listen buddy, if you don't like the music, then what the fuck are you doing at this part of the site? Go to whatever music you like and praise it instead of wasting your time here.

i think it\'s about a person who takes crap from there friend because they\'ve either been friends for awhile or the person is too scared to tell them off. you know this happened to me ... my best friend abadoned me and didn\'t care but the only time she came back to me was when the person she left me for got mad at her or made her angry.. i didn\'t say anything because i din\'t want to hurt my friend...who really wasn\'t a friend at all

agree with you, to a certain extent , but music is a reflection of self is it not? And as such propogates the emotions felt by the artist at the time... To the many 'adolescent, middle class goths' youre unfairly branding a bunch of whining losers, Music helps...
Dont get on a high horse and pretend that youve never been afflicted or experienced these emotions, people are in different phases of life. And were it not on youre pathetic inability to pause, think and empathise, you would realise youre in no fucking position to pass judgement here...

Vanaroth,

You just think that because you have not had a bad enough expierience to feel this song.

It totally speaks to everyone that what goes around comes around. I know that people are sick of hearing that but it is sooo true. You just have to realize that more people are committing suicide but really the person that is killing them are the peole that misstreat them. I know this by fact...

This song seems to be about power-struggles in a relationship between a parent and kid, a group of friends, or whoever. The singer doesn't sound abused or unable to defend himself. He's waiting for his rival to fall, or the right time to bring him down himself.

okay, one thing, i'm goth, there is nothing wrong with me, I don't slit my wrists or anything. 2. People's, play like good children at stop being haters. 3. I think this song is about how a close friend is being backstabbed, but beleives the person, but they are going to the point where they just can't take there crap anymore
