General Comment:this intro is just a lazy and crappy copy of the intro skit to Nine Inch Nails' album The Downward Spiral. Of course, Linkin Park would probably claim this was done in "homage" to Trent Reznor, but it doesn't make it any less crappy.

General Comment:I actually think that the Foreword was more of a way of saying that all the pain that they went through is being let out with the help of this album.

    . . . . .I bet I'm wrong, but that's how I take it. XP

General Comment:According to songfacts.org, it's the sound of Mike Shinoda throwing a CD against a wall after realizing it got corrupting, probably replayed a couple of times. You can hear a gasp of frustration in there somewhere, too. But I like Bane2's explanation. I'll go with that.

General Comment:'Cording to Spike Shinizzle himself it was him "...smashing my shitty cd burner on my coffee table... with an aluminium baseball bat... which kinda broke the table."

It hints at the dark, sophomore tone of the album that follows.

General Comment:I'm not taking the cd burner statement as fact, but take into consideration that they could have manipulated the noise.

Also DragonWing85, it reminds me of "Mr. Self Destruct" as well.

General Comment:Actually, I did find a meaning to this song, and probably a very good one. What if, glass being hit with a hammer is like someone being hit by the lies/backstabbing/ill-treatment/etc of someone(s) else? Then it would suggest, that you can only keep on "hitting" someone until they eventually break (that is, the glass breaking at the end).

A lot of Linkin Park songs seem to talk about being pushed a more and more, eventually until reaching the point of breaking (From One Step Closer "everything you say to me takes me one step closer to the edge... and I'm about to break"). This seems to decribe just that - with hitting the glass until it eventually breaks.

Also, like how it goes nicely into Don't Stay. As for the "extra tap", I don't know, but what I said above is what I think Foreword means. After all, that is the message that LP seems to put across in some (if not most) of their songs.
