One thing that no one else has said is why they broke up-- I think they couldn't agree on religion. When he's talking about not giving up on her, then he says "I can't promise I will mend, or bend when you believe that we are fixed now from our birth" it sounds like he's talking about her deterministic religious views. I drew this conclusion based on their song Sharp Knife, which I think is about the same girl, where he says, "all that we call chaos I will say is by design," a.k.a. he wants to give in and pretend that he believes in religion and creationism just so that they can put that behind them and be together, but it always ends up coming between them again.

maybe jenkins made a wrong choice something in their relationship which caused their split-up...he is feeling some deep remorse (WHO WOULDN'T!! Charlize is hot!)...and I think the time he wrote this song he wanted to make amends on their relationship but Charlize doesn't cared anymore...
well, this was just my catch-up of the lyrics...3EB is one of the best lyrics band I've ever known...jenkins is a genius!..
so hes saying how he's going to see this girl who he used to be more than just friends with and goes into the house and "never knows when he's done" meaning he doesnt know where he's supposed to be with her or how to act
So hes in the house and sees her in the shower and freezes then thinks that maybe if he stays right there she'll be okay with it and they can forget about everything that has happened. shes absolutely gorgeous.
He says hes never believed in having a fate or destiny but she changed that for him.
But when she sees him shes absolutely pissed and he doesnt know what to do and begins to talk to himself "maybe if i say something funny....no whatever i dont care, no wait i dont mean that you know what i meann" lol hes trapped in himself and his mistake. "And where they've been has left them burned" ...their past has made lasting effects on their relationship. yeah, he'll argue with her but she knows he cant stay mad at her.
Everything that has happened doesnt even matter anymore and nothing more between them can come now.
He says how he became such a fool and she gave up on him but he never gave up on her.
Icarus is a god who escaped his death who he compares himself to and how he too is trying to escape what hes done. but he cant promise her he'll change. And icarus tried to fly away but fell to the ground to his death but of course he'll try again.
They were perfect together and after everything....i still have feelings for you <---that's what the song's really about.
