Lyrics for Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis as interpreted by BrandNew1208

Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis Lyrics
With one or two I get used to the room
We go slow when we first make our moves
By five or six bring you out to the car
Number nine with my head on the bar
And it's sad but true
Out of cash and IOUs

I got desperate desires and unadmirable plans
My tongue will taste of gin and malicious intent
Bring you back to the bar, get you out of the cold
A sober straight face gets you out of your clothes
And they're scared, that we know
All the crimes they'll commit
Who they'll kiss before they get home

I will lie awake
And lie for fun and fake the way I hold you
Let you fall for every empty word I say

Barely conscious in the door where you stand
Your eyes are fighting sleep while your mouth makes your demand
You laugh at every word trying hard to be cute
I almost feel sorry for what I'm gonna do
And your hair smells of smoke
Who will cast the first stone?
You can sin or spend the night all alone

Brass buttons on your coat hold the cold
In the shape of a heart that they cut out of stone
You're using all your looks that you've thrown from the start
If you let me have my way I swear I'll tear you apart
'cause it's all you can be, you're a drunk, and you're scared
It's ladies night, all the girls drink for free

I will lie awake
And lie for fun and fake the way I hold you
Let you fall for every empty word I say

I will lie awake
And lie for fun and fake the way I hold you
Let you fall for every empty word I say

I will lie awake
And lie for fun and fake the way I hold you
Let you fall for every empty word I say

My favorite line:

You can sin or spend the night all alone

It really pinpoints the reason that this kind of thing happens, no one wants to be alone. It's a pretty clear message... he's taking advantage of this girl; he feels guilty for it, but not enough to not do it.

the thing about this song is that i think she knows what's going on. he keeps hinting at that. "you're a drunk and you're scared." "you can sin or spend the night alone." i think she's pretending to be clueless, "trying hard to be cute", but it's not like he's saying he got her drunk and took advantage of her. but i think she thinks it's a little more serious than it is. she's out to get laid, and possibly something more, and he's out to use her.

If im not mistaken Maradona was a great soccer player who ruined his career and his life with alcohol and same with Elvis.

I think this song is just about taking advantage of someone in general, but taking advantage of an intoxicated girl is how it's expressed. So amazing.

this song hits close to home. That girl is everything I don't want to be. My biggest fear is being used.

This song is obviously explaining a girl being taken advantage of. But heres a possibility, both Elvis and Maradona led talents but had horrible lives due to what they did, but they both did different things to make it horrible. So maybe its comparing this final guy to them both....

You are right when you said that both Elvis and Maradona had talents but led horrible lives due to what they did. In an interview Jesse said that he was scared of turning into someone like Maradona or Elvis and ruining his music career. I think this song is about Jesse's fear of that happening.

does anyone notice that the song kinda takes a turn after the line "You can sin or spend the night all alone" like at the begining he's trying to get her in the sack and being all sweet to her, and more towards the end it's like "i've already got what i want from you, so why be nice?"
