I... I came here by day, but I left here in darkness
And found you, found you on the way
And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold
You, in somber resplendence, I hold

Your sins into me
Oh, my beautiful one
Your sins into me
As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer
And I'll beg for forgiveness
(Your sins into me) Your sins into me
Oh, my beautiful one

Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me
As you're longing to sing
So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold
I will lift up your voice as I sink

Your sins into me
Oh, my beautiful one, now
Your sins into me
As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer
And I'll beg for forgiveness
(Your sins into me) Your sins into me

Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you
Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn away
Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you
Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn
As they seep... into me, oh, my beautiful one, now

Your sins into me
Oh, my beautiful one
Your sins into me
As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer
And I'll beg for forgiveness
(Your sins into me)
Your sins into me... oh

Your sins into me
Oh, my beautiful one, now
Your sins into me
As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer
And I'll beg for forgiveness
(Your sins into me) Your sins into...
(Your sins into me) Your sins into me
Oh, my beautiful one

General Comment:I think this song is about a relationship.
"I...I came here by day, but I left here in darkness and found you...found you on the way." This is an easy line. He went somewhere--this could be a real place, or a figurative place--happy, in a relationship. But when he left this "place", the relationship was dead. He found someone else on the way out, and they fell in love. (NOTE- This person can be male or female)
"But now, it is silver and silent. It is silver and cold. You, in somber resplendendence, I hold." This is a little harder line to translate. In one of his songs, he says "The colors of the world fade to grey," and silver is a shiny grey. So, he still loves this person, so they are still silver, and they stand out to him, but it is cold because he is no longer in a relationship with them.
"Your sins into me." He takes the blame for whatever sins this person has done.
"As a rapterous voice escapes, I will tremble a rayer, and I'll beg for forgiveness." This is quite easy when your 6th grade class is studying figurative languange =) "A rapterous voice" could be this person yelling at him, threatening maybe. He is scared ("I will tremble a prayer.") asking for the person to forgive him.
"Life...like the flutter of wings." Wings move quickly, and, sometimes, so quickly that you can't see them, so Davey's life is passing by so quickly he has no time to care for anything. (1)
"Feel your hollow voice rushing into me." This "hollow voice" could be him remembering this person yelling at him.
"So I...I will paint you in silver. I will wrap you in cold." He still sees this person as silver, but also cold.
"I will lift up your voice as I sink." He will make this person look important as he feels less and less important himself.
"Cold in life's throes." His life means nothing to him anymore.
"I'll fall asleep for you." He'd die for him\her.
"I only ask you turn away." He doesnt want the person the watch when he is in pain, because he is afraid they will make fun of him.

    (1) In the video, he is standing on a bridge, and that can probably relate to this part. But I dont understand why the rest of the band blows up

General Comment:Well I can only guess as to what Davey was thinking when this was written, but here are my two cents on "Silver and Cold."

'I... I came here by day, but I left here in darkness and found you, found you on the way'

To me, this is the start of life (literal or figuratively) and the end of it. During his life he met the subject of the song.

'And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold. You, in somber resplendence, I hold...'

This is/was and important relationship to him and it is now over - again either literally or figuratively the relationship has died. But the feeling of the relationship is still strong for him.

    'Your sins into me
    Oh, my beautiful one
    Your sins into me
As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer
    And I'll beg for forgiveness
(Your sins into me) Your sins into me
    Oh, my beautiful one '

If one looks at this as being the passing of someone, it could be thought of as the person who dies was taken too soon. Because he sees this person as his beautiful one, s/he is untarnished in his eyes so by going on to the afterlife, he will take whatever sins this person may have done unto himself. S/he would have "clear passage" into a beautiful afterlife, and Davey would be the tarnished one thus having to beg for forgiveness upon "meeting the maker."

'Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me
    As you're longing to sing
So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold
I will lift up your voice as I sink'

I think this is about how fleeting life is and the recollection or remembrance of the person's voice in his head. He is trying to honour this person by giving them "life" (as in a painting or a song) even though his pain at the loss is crushing him.

'Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you
Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn away
Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you
Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn
As they seep... into me, oh, my beautiful one, now'

I feel as if Davey would trade places with the person who is passing/passed and that he would want that person to go on without him. He would sacrifice his life so that the other could live (but this is all sort of past tense since, imho, the person has died). in the video he "commits suicide" which in Christianity is a sin - his world is over without his beautiful one.

Anyway, as I said this is just my two cents. :-)

    General Comment:I'm positive it's about a relationship.
I'm pretty sure its about how he will do anything for her even though she broke up with him.

I... I came here by day, but I left here in darkness
And found you, found you on the way

-This is talking about how he met the person-

And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold

-This line seems like how somethings going on between them and the breakup-

You, in somber resplendence, I hold
    -How he is missing her-

    Your sins into me
    Oh, my beautiful one
    Your sins into me

-How he'd do anything for her-

As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer
    And I'll beg for forgiveness

-Trying to get forgiveness for doing something to upset her-

(Your sins into me) Your sins into me
    Oh, my beautiful one

-More on how he'd do anything for her-

Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me
    As you're longing to sing
So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold
I will lift up your voice as I sink

Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you
Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn away
Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you
Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn
As they seep... into me, oh, my beautiful one, now

-More on How he loves her and would do anything for her-

Well that's my take on the song. Not much but ah well.

General Comment:Personally I think it's about a guy who has a daughter with an ex.

"I... I came here by day, but I left here in darkness" - He had a dying relationship.
"And found you, found you on the way" - Now he has a kid
"And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold
You, in somber resplendence, I hold" - He is in the hospital holding her and then the chorus is what he says to her.

"Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me
As you're longing to sing" - the girl is older and now he she wants to be a singer.
"So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold
I will lift up your voice as I sink" - Hes doing everything he can to help her become famous but isn't really helping and now she's upset and all he wants is for her to forgive him.

Well thats how I feel , it's give or take.

Song Meaning:In my opinion, this song goes along with most of the album, which I feel is about how he felt realizing he was gay. In this particular song's case, I think it's about his general feelings of his first (or one of his first) physical relationships with another man. I think he was likely raised religious, which is why he feels so much like the relationship is sinful (your sins in to me) but he can't help but feel happy in his lover's arms (or maybe having his lover in his arms).

General Comment:so obviously the music video suggests this song is about suicide.

but other posts are certainly relevant:
    Vampires
taking a bullet for a friend
    homosexuality
Jesus- seems the first natural and literal interpretation to me
    adultry
    sex

i find the most personal identification with the posts about starting a new relationship after ending an old one too soon.

There is much statistical proof to show that children who were beaten become parents that beat their children. Much the same, people who were cheated on often become people who cheat. "your sins into me" could mean that the cheating habit of the ex has sunk into the speaker of the song and he is now cheating on his current girlfriend. He loved and admired his ex "my beautiful one" so much that he imitated her, to the point of her negative qualities such as cheating.

This is similar to the stockholm syndrome, being in love with your abuser. "your sins into me" could mean physical abuse like that above, but pertain to the abuse itself, such as a fist into a face. But a son may find himself loving his father despite this.

    just more to think about...

General Comment:Is anyone else reminded of Sweeney Todd, as in the character from the Broadway musical and Tim Burton film? It's not what the song is about, but I always think of this song as being perfect for when he gets his razors back. If you watch and listen to "My Friends" and then listen to "Silver and Cold" I can definitely pick out similarities.

I'm not saying it's ABOUT Sweeney Todd, but it REMINDS me of his character, particularly in the film version.
