Lyrics for Going Under as interpreted by Juddc3891

Going Under Lyrics
now i will tell you what i've done for you
fifty thousand tears i've cried
screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
and you still won't hear me
don't want your hand this time i'll save myself
maybe i'll wake up for once
not tormented daily defeated by you
just when i thought i'd reached the bottom
i'm dying again

i'm going under
drowning in you
i'm falling forever
i've got to break through
i'm going under

blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
so i don't know what's real and what's not
always confusing the thoughts in my head
so i can't trust myself anymore
i'm dying again

i'm going under
drowning in you
i'm falling forever
i've got to break through

so go on and scream
scream at me i'm so far away
i won't be broken again
i've got to breathe i can't keep going under

i'm dying again

i'm going under
drowning in you
i'm falling forever
i've got to break through
i'm going under

going under
i'm going under

I LOOOOVE this song. I always get obsessed with a really really small part of songs, and in this one it's how amy sings "maybe i'll wake up for once" and then the echo comes...I love it! Anyway, I feel this song points on some level to abuse...she's trying so hard to escape, to "breathe" and "break through" but his abuse is so overpowering that she can't help "going under" and drowning. Sad.

This song is mainly about trying to break through from something that needs to be escaped...Amy Lee is a Genius along with the rest of Evanescence. Amazing isnt even the word to describe the music written and performed by Evanescence. Iam above and beyond their biggest fan ALIVE

I'm not positive yet... though that may be because I'm looking at this song from a Christian standpoint. But hey, we do agree on the fact that evanescence is AMAZING, and Amy Lee is indeed a genius. I love the whole band though, they wouldn't be as good as they are without each other and they'll tell you the same thing.

This song just blows me away, I picked up the CD the other day (mostly for My Immortal and Bring Me To Life) but I heard this song and it is probably my second favorite on the CD. It's the prefect way to start off the CD.

I love this song. Her voice is so powerfula nd like someone else said I get obsessed with certain parts and that's definitely when she says "don't want your hand this time, i'll save myself." this album is amazing.

androphobic, i think the intrepretation of:

"blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
so i don't know what's real and what's not
always confusing the thoughts in my head
so i can't trust myself anymore
i'm dying again "

Is about someone in denial and cannot find the right and wrong thing to do about someone. It is about a person whom is hurting someone, but this person still loves him/her. Hence, this person is in a state of confusion.
I really think that this particular part of the song is so powerful. I would have to agree that Evanescence is a genius. Basically, anyone could put any situation in their songs and relate to them.

I see this song as being about unrequited love. The "narrator" has been strung along by someone who doesn't love her, but is amused by playing with her emotions. She has finally realized what is going on and is telling the guy that although she's been through hell for him, she won't tolerate being used anymore.

I absolutely agree with imaginarylight...about the unrequited love...about how badly she's been treated by a guy who only uses her, and doesn't really seem to care about her.She feels cheated and decieved, but now shes turned the tables on him and told him she won't take it any more his crap anymore.

"blurring and stirring the truth and the lies

Anthropodic, I do agree a lot with what tracibear says. I know, and I've been here so many times before because of how I long for love, but I have stretched myself out for someone in trying to stay with them to the point where I didn't even know who I was anymore. When you live your life for someone you start to lose your own personal values.

Everyone has their own inner set of morals, qualities, and personality that is kind of like the ground they walk on. Well when you try to do so much for someone and you forget yourself then what you believed to be your truth is blurred to their truth. And then you don't understand what is right and wrong anymore.

Been there too many times and it sucks!

I think the most powerful line in this song is:
"don't want your hand this time I'll save myself
maybe I'll wake up for once."

It kind of shows how this person knows she's been like a zombie trying so hard to please this person.

I love this song, my favourite part of this song is:

"now i will tell you what i've done for you
fifty thousand tears i've cried

don't want your hand this time i'll save myself

I don't know why but I almost get angry when Amy sings this part. Ah well who cares, I just wanna say that this song is my third favourite song (My Immortal and Taking Over Me are my favourits) And if you don't have their CD...then GET IT QUICK 'cause there isn't one song on the CD that isn't good, Evanescence RULES

\/\/ 0 \/\/ this cd keeps blowing mly mind i just don't understand why they are so popular they were better when they were semi known but they are blasted on pop stations round the world and that ruins a band but there first hit will be close to my heart always.

I don't understand why a song played on pop stations ruins a band????? Am I missing the point here or something?

When a band is played constantly on radiostations people quickly lose interest in the band and it's sound. It's the equivilant to having something shoved in your face. No one likes being told what to do/like, and when songs are played over and over that's the interpretation a lot of people begin to feel.

Anyhow, I agree both with chino69 and imaginarylight. These are the best answers I could think of.

One thing I'd like to note on this song is how when she sings particular portions of the song she sounds a lot different. In the first few lines she sounds very mean and rather angry. In the lines that follow, she sounds more like a person. Almost like she's singing as two different "characters". Very cool stuff.

This is scarily accurate about me n my ex. I'm the same as kellymac, I like certain parts of songs too. My ex n his mates r making my life hell, they take every opportunity to hurt me, and r telling me so many lies and stories that I have no idea who to trust and who not to. V similar to "Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies, so i don't know what's real and what's not, always confusing the thoughts in my head, so I can't trust myself anymore." My ex used to think I was indispensible to him ("Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself") I love this song and can't begin to say how accurate this is about the situation with my ex.

Im the same too, I like certain parts of some songs like this. I think this song is very powerful and enchanting, like most of their songs it lingers on your mind once you've heard it. Its a great song, I like it a lot, and its the next one they are releasing as a single, hope it does well.

video: amazing. fucking amazing. just had to say that.

i love this song. about a person who has relied on another for a long period of time because they are deeply in love... despite not receiving the same feelings in return. she learns that nothing will ever change and decides to break away.

I think this song is talking about someone who is always doing something for someone else (be it a freind, family member, boyfriend, ect.) but she needs them too and they are never there for her when she needs it. She's controlled by them, does everything they ask, but they are never there for her, so she is trying to get out. "So go on and scream...scream at me...I'm so far away...I won't be broken again...I've got to breathe..I can't keep going under" I think that part she is talking about how they can keep trying to controll her, but she isn't listening anymore, she's trying to help herself and get out.

This is one of my favorite Evanescence songs, and more than any other song, it was the reason I became a fan of the band.

One thing I like about the song is the shift from the angry verses to the beautiful-yet-hard chorus. Amy has one of the best voices in music today - heck, she has one of the best voices in music ever. I can listen to this over and over and never get tired of it.

I personally don't like it when people don't start off their OPINION with "I think...", because have any of you asked them personally what the song means... hmm. Anyway if you have, then that's awesome but if you haven't don't pretend you know, or at least say, "what it says to me is that..." Just a suggestion.

You are far from the truth.I'm Amy Lee,and thankyou,I am a genius. But the song is related to rape so kind of abuse, but it's more of rape. And how people want us to look.Everyone wants to be skinny, drop dead gorgeus, popular,so they have to go through pain for it.The girl I played in the video, people were putting on her makeup but she was resisting. She had an eating disorder.and she was told what to do.never a choice.
