Lyrics for Imaginary (Fallen version) as interpreted by Juddc3891

Imaginary (Fallen version) Lyrics
oh, paper flowers
oh, paper flowers

i linger in the doorway
of alarm clock screaming
monsters calling my name
let me stay
where the wind will whisper to me
where the raindrops as they're falling tell a story

in my field of paper flowers
and candy clouds of lullaby
i lie inside myself for hours
and watch my purple sky fly over me

don't say i'm out of touch
with this rampant chaos - your reality
i know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge
the nightmare i built my own world to escape

in my field of paper flowers
and candy clouds of lullaby
i lie inside myself for hours
and watch my purple sky fly over me

swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
cannot cease for the fear of silent nights
oh how i long for the deep sleep dreaming
the goddess of imaginary light

in my field of paper flowers
and candy clouds of lullaby
i lie inside myself for hours
and watch my purple sky fly over me

oh, paper flowers
oh, paper flowers

Love the contstruction of this version (backing vocals, the tie to tourniquet, etc) but perfer the lyrical structure of the previous version... ah, to each his own. FALLEN is an absolute awesome album... one of the top 5 i own.

good song...estocopath, i'm curious or just stupid...what do you mean by "ties to tourniquet"? I don't think they're lyrically or stylistically that similar...maybe i'm just an idiot :)

Well, she does make refrences to "screaming" in both *shrugs* maybe that's what he/she meant?

By those ties, i'm refering to the musical fade (outro of tourniquet/intro of imaginary) on the cd "FALLEN." i just loved the way they worked that on the cd.

I was refering to the musical fade (outro of tourniquet/intro of imaginary) that i absolutely fell in love with on the cd "FALLEN." it's one of my favorite parts. Also, check out the chanting on "Whisper" at the very end. a few changes from the original mixes that are absolutely awesome.

Yeah...that turned out really good...it was seamless transition...not many artists can pull it off that well.

this is my favorite Evanescence song, it's really well written. "don't say i'm out of touch with this rampant chaos - your reality i know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge the nightmare i built my own world to escape" so true

Its rare you see a good band with a singer. These guys take the cake. They excel in every factor of music. Incredible is the only word that comes to mind when I hear these guys.

i actually prefer the origin version... the fact that it is simpler makes it more sentimental. it happens the same with my immortal... amy doesn't need backing vocals.

this song is so beautiful and lyrics of a secret place within yourself where whatever you want to happen does is appealing. her make-believe world that drowns out the real one is illustrated wonderfully! I agree that the outro for Tourniquet (my fav on "Fallen") goes well into the intro for this song. great lyrics and amazing vocals from Amy again!

This is by far the best song on the album, IMO. It's just amazing. (and I VERY rarely say that about any song) Immediately when I heard "Tourniquet" flow into another song I knew I was in for something nice.

This song greatly appeals to me. I often draw and write to just get away from the crap that is the world we live in. So, for me, the dreamworld she sings of is the world of my stories and comics. Thanks, Evanescence. This is a great song.

A true artist! I am so like this! There would be times (especially after a bad break-up) where I would just sleep on my couch all day dreaming of a better place.

To me life is so torturous at times. And ironically like this song the monsters in fairy tales are existent in this world, while my little place inside my heart is so safe and full of love.

There is another song I'd like to quote as a part of this interpretation. It's called Sleep from the Conjure One CD.
It goes:

"Without sleep there
are no dreams
Withour dreams
we fall apart at the seams"

I seriously love to dream. I love to be in my own world where reality can't come and whisk away your loved ones with its deathly grip, where a person cannot be stand wrongly accused and suffer for it, where supposed lovers cannot turn their back on you when you've needed them the most, when you've been there for them, and of course, where hate and lies does not coat this world in bitter darkness.

This song to me is a lot about religion, she wants to "stay where the wind will whisper" to her, a reminder of God's love, " I am keeping you", things not seen are still there and have an effect on us,its about faith.
"the raindrops as they're falling tell a story"-Perhaps a reference to God knowing the story and number of each of our tears, and possibly about how rain shows a constant, unchanging process that the Lord has created and the story of each drop circulating through the wonders of nature

"The goddess of imaginary light"- she is seeking refuge from the turmoiled reality of her waking hours with one she calls God*(dess) (in a female form, which would be more comforting to some
women) and this god has a radience, "light"

I am not saying this song is all religios, because it is obviosly about having refuge in sleep and dreaming

I love this song. I can relate to it alot. When things are all mixed up and my life is falling apart.. I tend to pull myself into my own little world where no one can hurt me. "don't say i'm out of touch with this rampant chaos - your reality i know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge the nightmare i built my own world to escape" I hate it when people tell me to wake up and face reality. I think that many people can relate to that lyric

Actually, this seems to be more about an unhealthy attachment to the fictional world she creates. The 'Monsters calling her name,' sets a dark imagry for the world outside, and hearing about how she is forced back out of her dream world gives us the impression that she is really heavily set into an escapest personality. This type of interpretation lends a great deal more artistic value to the fact that it is linked with Turnequet, a song about suicide.

I think this song is of someone's inner imagination. Their dreamland, that's my perception...She's asleep, but then again she's not..."I lie inside myself for hours..."She's dreaming of her own imaginary world escapimg our reality....I love this song!!!
