Lyrics for Tourniquet as interpreted by Juddc3891

Tourniquet Lyrics
I tried to kill my pain
But only brought more (so much more)
I lay dying
And I'm pouring crimson regrets and betrayal

I'm dying
Praying
Bleeding
And screaming

Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

Do you remember me?
Lost for so long
Will you be on the other side
Or will you forget me?

I'm dying
Praying
Bleeding
And screaming

Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

(Return to me salvation)

(I want to die)

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

My wounds cry for the grave
My soul cries for deliverance
Will I be denied?
Christ
Tourniquet
My suicide

Thanks you Cjhalfirish for clearing up all the "Christian or not" talk. I've read in a few magazines some qoutes like that. Is it so hard for people to understand you can be religious, but not be in a religious band? But I guess if someone wants to sing these songs to God, or whom ever, they can. But that doesn't make the band a Christian band. Really, with about any song, you could say it was a religious song.

Sorry.. my post didn't really have anything to do with this song... but I like Evanescence. They rock.

This band is so weird. They seem to be so obviously Christian, but then in their website, they don't even make any attempt to claim that they are. They even go so far as to say that their music is "epic, dramatic, dark rock" ((I think I have that last descriptive word correct)). So what do you all think?

As far as this song goes, I see this as a person contemplating suicide and questioning that if they truly do something to themselves will God come in and save them from it? Will God forgive them if they are to go through with it? Or will they be forgotten by God?

According to a lot of religious beliefs a person who commits suicide is damned to hell. But what makes this song powerful is that its basically stating that a person on the verge of suicide is the one who is crying and calling for the most help. If God is a all forgiving entity, why would a person who needs the most help be forgotten?

From that I can't see Evanescence as a Christian band per se. I do think they are spiritual and that they are basically saying to find the belief within not outwardly. If you listen to the words of another, it can lead you astray. I know in my heart God would come and save me when I need her the most.

I'm not even Christian. But I'm spiritual. So I can relate to all this. But, I really don't care if someone sees these as Christian songs or not. I think it can be awesome for both Christian and non-Christians to relate to a song. I really don't care to put a line between the two anyway. What does it matter when we're all the same human race.

argh! evanescence IS NOT a christian band!!!

this song was originally done by soul embraced, as said before... you guys will probably not like that version, it is MUCH different.

i think this song is about someone who began to cut when their life just got too hard. she felt the cutting would help stop her pain, but made her feel worse. she then begins to feel suicidal, but god is her tourniquet, and she refrains from doing so. because of all this, s/he withheld him/herself from everyone, and they all drifted away. she wished to return to her friends, but they would not take her back, which made her feelings return. again, god is her tourniquet, and she does not do it. the very end, i think, is where she actually commits or attempts suicide. she is worried that she will go to hell for her sin, and she wants to be salvaged.

thats just my two cents

To me, I think she is considering commiting suicide, and she is asking God to be her tourniquet and tie her to the Earth. Or, another way, she is asking God to be her tourniquet and stop her "bleeding" or suffering. She want to know if she can be forgiven for wanting to commit suicide.

This song is one of my faves and it comes across really deep to me. I am a cutter. I cut myself to try and kill pain. Sometimes it works... sumtimes it only brings more pain. Then theirs those moments in a cutters life when they are sick of all the pain and they just want to end it. So they try to kill them selfs. To me this song mean that she cut herself but she doesn't do it deep enough to kill herself and shes saying that god saved her... kinda.. Tournquet is sumthing used to stop bleeding.. so to me its kind of her second thought about commiting suicide and god is there and she knows and that kind of helps her not to... lol that came out jumbled ... lol thats kind of what I think of it but I can't put it into the write words :-)

OK, I've been listening to this album for weeks now between my husband and sister in law and I have had many converations with both of them regarding this song. I think it's safe to say that all three of us agree with Gonzalusaurus on this one. That being said, my question for the borad, Christian and non-Christians both... where in the bible does it say suicide is a sin. I have been saved for 2 years now and have heard this whole "suicide is a ticket straight to hell" thing and I have yet to come across it in scripture. As far as I knew the only sure ticket to hell is not accepting Jesus as your lord and savior before you die.

Just a question... :)

I'd say it's about suicide. Perhaps an attempted suicide then whilst watching the blood pour out a change of heart came over the victim and she wished to be saved.

First of all, Evanescence are NOT a christian band, they are Goth/heavy rock. They do not preach in their songs, though there is some argument wether they USED to be a Christian band.
Therefore I find it highly unlikely that this song is about God in a "savior" sense. I apologize if I offend anyone- I used to be a christian but found i was uncertain what i was supposed to believe-though I still believe in threads of christianity. The bible DOES say sucide is wrong (can't remember where but we had to read it in school so it is there) and she clearly opens singing "I tried to kill the pain, but only brought more, I lay here DYING and I'm pouring CRIMSON REGRET and betrayal" the crison regret obviously refers to her own blood. When she sings "MY god My tourniquet, return to me salvation" I think she only means, her tournequet is her god, her salvation is the adrenalaine rush she gets from cutting herself and from the drugs. At the end she sings "My wounds cry for the grave, my soul cries for deliverence, Will I be denied christ? Tourniquet, My SUICIDE" this means that she is desparate to die but she is scared of what faces her and i think she is being slightly ironic here when she says will i be denied Christ, because she knows that she can't be saved anyway.

I think that this song is about her trying to kill herself "I tried to kill my pain, but only brought more" and "i'm dying, praying bleeding, and screeming!" then she realizes she wants to go back to god but she doesnt think he will take her. "do you remember me lost for so long will you be on the other side or will you forget me" and shes asking him to return to her and save her so she can be free of pain.

i think that this song is about her killing herself and trying to put herself out of her pain and then realizing that by doing that she is only giving herself more pain, also she wishes she could take it back and is scared that God won't forgive her and give her salvation because she has sinned and killed herself.oh and evanescence rocks!amy lee is the best singer ever!

I think this song is about the person being extremely wounded emotionally and she has metaphorical wounds and her body just wants to give up because the pain is too much to bare, so she tries to take her own life, and in her dying moment she is pleading to god to forgive her and bandage her wounds(inside). She is screaming out to him and wondering if he is still there or if he has forsaken her.she wants to know if she will meet god on the other side as it says or if she will be forgotten(pretty self explanitory), and thats what i think this song is about. This song is awesome! the words and the feeling of the song just really get to you.

evanescence IS a christian band. read their other lyrics, if the fact that they covered a christian band's song, or, better yet, go to their website, and reas up on them. and the song hasnothing to do with physical suicide. when Christ was crucified on the cross for our sins, He gave us, as fallen humans, the ability to enter heaven, if we so choose. "Christ, tourniquet, my suicide" is one of the most powerful lines i have ever heard in any song, ever. it shows how, when you choose to follow Christ, you lay down your own flesh and desires. in the Bible, it says that we must die to ourselves in order to live for [Christ]. that is what that line means.

Evanescence isn't a Christian band.

This is a Soul Embraced song, written by Rocky Gray.

It's about killing the pain (committing suicide) and bringing more.

It's also an open plea to Christ to save him. (Or her, depending on which version you listen to)

VH1: Some of your songs certainly beg the question - like "Tourniquet," which has lyrics about salvation and God, but it also seems like it could be about drugs. Is it vague on purpose?

Lee: A lot of our songs are written in a way that you could take them to mean several different things. That one was written by our drummer Rocky [Gray], who was in a Christian death metal band before he joined us. He told me that it is coming from a Christian standpoint, but it's about suicide. It's from the perspective of someone who has just committed suicide and it's about the controversy in Christianity that if you commit suicide, will you go to heaven or hell? If all sins are forgiven after accepting Christ, why would there be an exception?

Amy's own words. Check out the article yourself: http://www.vh1.com/artists/news/1472058/05232003/evanescence.jhtml

wow, some people dont even know what they are talking about. evanescence has already explained the meaning of this song. Yes it is about suicide, and no they are not trying to spread christianity. yes, it was originally a song by 'Soul Embraced' but no it is not about trying to spread "Salvation through Jesus Christ". Evanescence is NOT a christian band. And um BTW bring me to life has no references to christianity or god at all. And yeah toward the middle she screams 'I long to die!' and the meaning to that should be extremely obvious, evanescence orriginally wanted to use a quote from Romeo & Juliet {it was something like 'be not ye so hastey in that ye long to die' i dont remember exactly though} but they couldn't because of copyright reasons, so she screams I long to die instead.

I think she says I want to die, then again it could be I long to die, oh well. I think this song is about someone commiting suicide and longing for deliverance though they're denied from heaven even though they let Jesus Christ into their hearts.

I think a lot of people get confused with what the song is interpretted to the band and what its meaning says to themselves. A fan having a certain view on a song differing from the actual band creating the song--there is nothing wrong with that.

It is why certain bands (Tool comes to mind) try to be as evasive as possible towards explaining what the song means to them. Because in that way it is limiting.

There reason I talked about Christian beliefs, etc. dealing with this song is not my view that this song is Christian. In fact, if anything, this song "could" be viewed as anti-Christian. But I don't think it is that either. What I do think is that Evanescence is an incredible band because they tackle topics and are straightforward in their lyrics, without even bothering to be politically correct. And crossing the line of religion and non-religion in this secular culture tends to shock us (I am merely assuming most of us are from the U.S.)

XkellieX and Gonzelesaurus I really liked your post! You simply have views on the Bible that I don't quite know! But I definitely can visualize your interpretation.

What I don't understand is how someone can talk about Jesus Christ and mention the name in the lyrics and all of a sudden they have talked "Christian" or are that. I am not Christian, but I still believe in Jesus Christ and I believe in God. Christ is not something that is owned by Christians (<--- that line was not meant to start a flame) but in fact, the opposite according to the Bible. We in a sense are his children.

This song is very special to me, everyone has a different way of interpreting what the band is trying to say and thats fine. to me, its all about the whole nightmare involving self-injury and suicide. Being suicidal myself, the bands words speak to me. " to me it means a suicide attempt. litterally killing all the emotional pain and stress by ending your life. but by doing it, you creat more. "lay dying
and i'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal " she just realized what shes done, her arms bleeding badly and in the terror she screams to be saved from her cursed life. can she be saved? is her life meaningless, those things run through my mind to.
