Lyrics for Tourniquet as interpreted by Juddc3891

Tourniquet Lyrics
I tried to kill my pain
But only brought more (so much more)
I lay dying
And I'm pouring crimson regrets and betrayal

I'm dying
Praying
Bleeding
And screaming

Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

Do you remember me?
Lost for so long
Will you be on the other side
Or will you forget me?

I'm dying
Praying
Bleeding
And screaming

Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

(Return to me salvation)

(I want to die)

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

My wounds cry for the grave
My soul cries for deliverance
Will I be denied?
Christ
Tourniquet
My suicide

a tourniquet is a special type of bandage that is used only when wounds are VERY bad. this could be speaking of using a person...or something they love dearly...to stop the bleeding, the pain. tourniquets can only be taken off by doctors so they could be saying that they need this person or thing to stop their pain until something or someone important comes along and takes away the bandage and they dont need it anymore

Well I won't get into what I think this song means because it has been said a few times already. But I will say what I know regarding the "christian band" deal. The way I understand it is that all memebers of the band are christian, and they USED to be on a christian label... But they have never classified themselves as a christian band. But as I am hearing more and more of their songs there is no doubt in my mind that the majority of thier songs do have strong christian lyrics and meanings to them. Hope that helps someone on their understanding of the band.
God bless all

I love this song wiy my life, but really, who cares whether it is Christian or not? The lyrics are one thing, but it's the soul of the music, the voice...that's supposed to really get to you...

I agree wholeheartedly.

Why does it matter if the stinking lyrics relay to christianity or not? Yes, I may be a Christian, but I don't care if they relay christian themes or whatever.

When I first heard this song I thought it was a Christianish song about loving god, but then I read the lyrics, and indead it's about suicide by cutting, and wondering is god will save you. If god will be your tourniquet.

Also, could the fact suicide is a sin have anything to do with this song?

OK all of you CHRIST-E people need to wake up and read a music magazine or 2.... this is qoute from Amy.

"There are people hell-bent on the idea that we're a Christian band in disguise, that we have some secret message," she's quoted as saying. "We have no spiritual affiliation with this music. It's simply about life experience."

HEY Zps2!!! The Chairman of WIND-UP records had the CD pulled from christain stores..... oh sorry dude.... you are a total retard... just so you know.....

and the she isn't talking about GOD as her savior..... shes implying that her tourniquet is her god... and she feels that with this Tourniquet, she can stop the spearding of the evil and pain in her life. just like a god can do.

and since they aren't a Christain band this makes much more sense... dont the rest of you think so??......Cj

everybody is implying....... and offcourse spouting their opinions.... like i would... offcourse... though... everybody will create his or her own interpretation to the lyrics of this band they are quite general and open to discussion ... what can be said without a doubt is that they are exceptionally talented... their music kept me up a lot of nights... i feel the chill/ripple going through my spine.... and think .. WOW this is the kind of music that makes my skin crawl... and makes me contemplate life just a little bit more. ;) (sorry for the broken english, i'm dutch) /// .

to me, this song sems to be about the cold night of the soul, or wotever its called (when god tests ur faith by hiding his face). she thinks god has abandoned her, leaving her with no meaning in life. shes let all the pain get to her and may of taken up cutting as a tempory soloution. remembering god, she calls out to him for help. to return to her. feeling that if god wont "return" to her, she will take her own life. ive been in a similar situation (tho cutting didnt start for a long time after). the title of the album (fallen) seems to reflect this. also, bring me to life seems to be about this, and realising that god was always there.

i dont think ppl care if they r christian or not really, but they did say they were about spreading the word of God...sumthin like that so for ppl to think they are a christian band isnt crazy....but then it depends on wut u mean when u say christian band. christain members or singin about God/Jesus? i dont really care, but for amy to get mad when ppl ask that is dumb.:)

whether or not they are a Christian band, this song is amazing, and it means what it does to everyone for their own reasons. i am a Christian (Jesusfreak would be a better description :)), and although at first i thought they were Christian, it ultimately doesn't matter because each song means what it means to each person for their own reasons. to me, it's a song about asking God to forgive you, but not only dying to yourself. it means so much more. a Christian can be depressed, i know. that joy of Christ is there, but to be alone besides Him... i know He is enough now though. when i first heard this song, it hit me right in the heart, cuz i felt very depressed and wanted to die for a long time, but when i realized that Christ is so much greater than my circumstances or my pain, i gave it all to Him and things haven't been the same. He is amazing, and He reigns! Christ is my tourniquet!

i don't think anyone's mentioned this, but if a christian commits suicide, they are supposed to go to hell.
So in the last few lines where it writes:

"my wounds cry for the grave
my soul cries for deliverance
will i be denied Christ"

she is stating her worry that she might not be accepted into heaven, and the forgiveness that she wishes from God is that she'll be forgiven for this final sin of taking her life.

It also appears that she lost faith for a while. the "betrayal" being to God and the part where she asks "do you remember me/lost for so long" this makes it seem that she stopped believing a long time ago and is only questioning it now that she's bleeding to death.

a torniquet is inevitably a means of salvation and in those lines: "My God, my torniquet/return me to salvation" she is showing that she's regained her faith and asks God to allow her to feel that she can be saved... the way she used to feel.

The last line: "torniquet my suicide" she wants to be saved from death, the same meaning comes from "crimson regret".

I agree with all u Jesus freaks out there!
It's interesting tho, cos I'd never actually thought of this suicide idea, and it sounds quuite promising in terms of the actual meaning of the song.
As to whether or not they are a 'Christian' band, well, I don't know, and probably never will, but, whether or not they want 2 b associated with the 'Contemporary christian Music' media, this song is quite oviously rooted in a faith in Christ.

The thing is, whether the Evanescence is Christian or not doesn't matter. You can't deny the Christian roots of this song because it was written by Soul Embraced, not Evanescence. If you are going to analyze the lyrics, you must know the source.

i agree with nobodysfool, its about commiting suicide and wanting to die("pouring crimson regret and betrayl" to me is her bleeding after cutting herself), but then realising that acctually you dont want to die, and wanting to be saved (ie, by a torniquet), i personly dont see the god side of it cos im not christian, but i understand that there is one to amy, as she is.
and amy has acctually said in an interview it was about suicide, and the dilema that suicide is a sin in christianity, btw :)

I think this song is about wanting salvation (to be saved) from God. The title word does mean a tight encircling band applied around an arm or leg in an emergency to stop severe arterial bleeding that cannot be controlled in any other way. However, here I think it is to be taken as a metafore (don't think I spelled that right...oh well) for wanting the "bandage"of God's grace to heal the pain and suffering in life.

ok, first off, i love the song, yada yada yada.. BUT i must say something in response to Grosby's comment: the word "tourniquet" may have its roots in French, but it has obviously been anglicized since then and the 't' IS pronounced. and if you don't belive me, look it up in Webster's. so there.

I think this is about someone trying to commit suicide to take themselves away from their pains, but to Christians, suicide is a sin, so they will go to hell or wherever they go, they are praying to be saved by God from that afterlife, especialy after being 'lost' (ie away from faith and that sort of thing). A tourniquet (not that they are used any more) cuts off blood flow and can save your life, ie salvation, God.

well, my take, if you don't like it, :p

in my opinion this song is about self-harm, 'i tried to kill the pain, but only bought more' - she cut herself to try and 'kill the pain' but now her wrist (or wherever) is painful...'i'm pouring crimson regret and betrayl' she's now bleeding, and she regrets either cutting herself, or doing the thing that upset her enough to cut herself....she looks 2 god 4 salvation and help, to release the pain, give her peace of mind etc.....jst my take, i'm prolly wrong but there we go. maybe i jst thought of this song tht way cuz it brings bk personal experiences 4 me (apart frm the god thing) but even so, whatever the meaning is, i love this song.
