Lyrics for Tourniquet as interpreted by Juddc3891

Tourniquet Lyrics
I tried to kill my pain
But only brought more (so much more)
I lay dying
And I'm pouring crimson regrets and betrayal

I'm dying
Praying
Bleeding
And screaming

Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

Do you remember me?
Lost for so long
Will you be on the other side
Or will you forget me?

I'm dying
Praying
Bleeding
And screaming

Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

(Return to me salvation)

(I want to die)

My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My god, my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

My wounds cry for the grave
My soul cries for deliverance
Will I be denied?
Christ
Tourniquet
My suicide

This song is talking about suicide and how they regretted trying to do it and asking god for forgiveness...its quite obvious.

I don't think I agree with lostinadyingworld...a tourniquet is something that stops bleeding from a large wound, like a bandage. I think the song is begging to be saved from death rather than inviting death...they want a metaphorical tourniquet to stop their pain and bleeding and bring them salvation...

I disagree with lostinadyingworld...I think this is not about suicide in any way at all...it's about salvation...the person is begging for salvation and an end to the pain and blood...a tourniquet is a bandage that stops bleeding from major wounds...

To me, this song has biblical and Christian intonations. The woman singing is looking to be saved from her life of "death," or sin rather. The first verse refers to her own attempts to stop the pain of her own sinful life and the fact that it just caused more pain. So it seems she turned to God and now, she's looking to Him as a tourniquet, which is a device to stop bleeding, to prevent her from the self destruction from a sinful life. The "crimson regret and betrayal" refer to the action of sin. In other words, she feels she betrayed God with her sin and she regrets it. She also asks God whether she is too lost to be saved, and whether He remembers her, because she's been away from Him for so long. The last verse which refers to death and suicide may refer to the metaphorical "dying to the world" when a Christian decides to commit their life to God. In short, "Tourniquet" is a song about a woman seeking the Salvation of Christ to deliver her from sin and death. This, of course, is my take on it; this is what the song means TO ME. You're free to disagree, but this is what I think, anyway.

Gonzalesaurus, great interpretation. It's what I meant in my above post too. And I didn't mean to say, in any way, that lostinadyingworld was incorrect; I just wanted to post my own interpretation in contrast with his/hers. Sorry if I offended anybody, and Gonzalesaurus - thanks again for explicitly explaining that interpretation.

wow this song rules. actually this band rules. Specifically, in this song, I have to agree with lostinadyingworld and Gonzalesaurus, it's about suicide. She's obviously talking about a sin, and the first lines "I tried to kill the pain / but it only brought more" really support this. Of course, all of their songs involve "wounds" of some kind and it's usually metaphorical so who can really tell.

Still, there has to be something to the fact that it's called "Tourniquet." A touriquet is more than just a bandage. It's a makeshift field dressing in which you tie a rag or something around a limb to cut off the flow of blood to a wound. It's a dangerous practice because it often results in severe tissue damage from lack of blood. I don't see what that means in the song but I'm convinced that there is significance in the desperate method of a tourniquet and in that it causes damage as it prevents blood loss.

i think this song has to do with someone who was about to, or in the process of commiting suicide, now she regrets it and shes begging God to return her to salvation. and her wounds want her to die but her soul makes herwant to stil be alive and live a fulfilling life, thats what i blieve, but really i loove this song

I can really identify to this song. I agree with most of the above meanings but my own personal meaning is that the girl is going through what I go through. She keeps giving up on God and forgetting him and going about sinning and giving in and she really regrets it. At this point she is down on her knees in her room with a knife and is asking God to please help her and that she can't go on without him, and she has yet to hear the reply and she wonders if even when she dies he will be there or if she will be denied.

That's just my personal meaning though. I sometimes think when I get to heaven Christ will probably say "Depart from me, I know you not"

Evanescence is my favorite band, and Tourniquet is definately one of their best songs! I personally think that the meaning of this song is pretty basic. I would have to say that I disagree with lostinadyingworld and sometimes23 as well as some others. But, hey, each song and poem is open to interpretation. :-) Also, the band is playing in Nashville on April 19th, I've heard that there is an age limit and I've also heard that there isn't. . . does anyone know?

This is an awesome song, but as far as being one of their best, it's technically not their song at all. It's actually a cover. the song was done by a band called soul embraced, who ive never heard, but since this songs awesome, their probably worth checking out. Evanescence is probably the best band around right now, and probably will be for quite some time

I think this song is about a person that's commited suicide because they are ashamed of the pain and hurt and sin she's done to herself and inflictewd on others. She's hoping that in repenting her sins and giving herself complete to the lord, literatly and metaphorically, that she will be granted her penance. She is praying as she is dying to that the Lord forgives her and accepts her into his kingdom knowing she is trully regretful.

i dont know, i agree with everyone in little bits. see the first two lines, suggest she has commited suicide..trying to kill the pain but only brought more. depressed people try suicide as a way out of pain. im sure as they are dying, they ask for forgiveness, they know they have done something wrong. so i agree mostly with michealdark

Soul Embraced is a christian death metal band...Soul Embraced - My Tourniquet does not sound all that much like this version. much heavier and add deep scream like singing...they are trying to spread the word of "Salvation through Jesus Christ"

I'm pretty sure that someone had said something quite similar about the meaning of this song, but I'm pretty much going to repeat the lyrics and what they could possibly mean. But before I start I want to apoligize incase "dumb it down" for anybody. It's just a very "easy to understand" way to explain my views on the song. And most of you already know but for those who don't a tourniquet is something that stops bleeding. It can also be described as something that stops anything. If you were to stop something from happening you would be a tourniquet for that particular thing. So here goes!

i tried to kill the pain but only brought more (basically there was emotional/physical/mental pain in her life that she couldn't bare any longer, so she attempted suicide, causing her more pain than before)
i lay dying and i'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal (as she is laying there dying bleeding, thru her blood comes all her regrets and the things that betrayed her)
i'm dying praying bleeding and screaming (self explanitory)
am i too lost to be saved am i too lost? (she is wondering if she is too lost in her hatred and suicide to be saved from an eternal hell which might await her)
my God my tourniquet return to me salvation (she's asking God, as her tourniquet, to stop her from doing this to herself and to return all salvation to her)
do you remember me lost for so long (she's asking God if he remembers her at all when she turned to him for help while being lost for so long)
will you be on the other side or will you forget me (she's asking God if he will be on the other side waiting for her or will he just forget about her and not pay attention to her)
{next part is the same.... see above}
my wounds cry for the grave (she is hurting so bad that she just wants to die.... be delivered to the grave)
my soul cries for deliverance (she wants her soul to be delivered to God on the other side.... in the "after life" if you will)
will i be denied Christ (she's asking Christ if she will be denied and but rejected or will he forgive then accept her)
tourniquet my suicide (she is asking Christ to stop her from commiting suicide)

This is what the song means to me. Many of you might not agree and some of you might. It doesn't matter really because since this is songmeanings.net I figured I would share my thoughts about the song. The reason my thoughts are so strong is because of been in this exact possition before in my life. And lucky for me Christ did not deny me.... at least as far as I know. Well that's all for me I think I've written enough. Again I'm sorry if I "dumbed it down". It's just because even some of my friends wouldn't get it so I figured if they ever came on this to read it that they would understand it better. The reason I took each peice of the lyrics and described it individually is because that's just my style. Well like I said I'm off. Thanks to the people who actually took the time to read all of this!

Everyone on here has been saying how this band is a Christian band. I recently bought the album after hearing it on the radio. I wan't aware that this band had anything to do with church. I looked over the band's web site, read the insert in the album, and looked at their publisher. Nowhere could I even find a hint that this was a gospel band.

Now is this really a gospel/christian band, or is this just a case of people seeing what they want to see?

This is most definately a Christian band. In the thank you's in the CD Jacket one of the members thanks Jesus Christ above all. And this song is proof as well, will I be denied Christ? That's a good example. Also, I believe, though it doesn't come right out and say it in the lyrics, the song "Bring Me To Life" has Christian implications. Check em out.

perhaps one can be christian and in a band without it being a christian band? it's not unheard of. also, one or two christian-themed songs does not a christian band make. i'm not in the band, so i can't really say, but i'd guess they're pretty damn secular.

though i agree that there is a definite religious theme in this song, the person in the lyrics expresses some doubts. "do you remember me lost for so long? will you be on the other side or will you forget me?" he/she isn't exactly sure there is a christ or god, or even if there is, if they will save them. the reason for this could be that christian dogma teaches that suicides go to hell..."will i be denied christ?" i see this as less of a typical "christian" song, and more of a song about christianity, dealing with the issues of belief and whether simple belief is enough.

Hate to break it to ya guys, but they arent a christian band, like farseer said they can be christian and not a christian band. I know these guys personally and have heard that question asked to them a bunch of times, and the answer has always been no. Moving on it doesnt really matter, because they are one of the most talented bands out there. Rock on!
