Someday they won't let you, so now you must agree
The times they are a-telling, and the changing isn't free
You've read it in the tea leaves, and the tracks are on TV
Beware the savage jaw
Of 1984

They'll split your pretty cranium, and fill it full of air
And tell that you're eighty, but brother, you won't care
You'll be shooting up on anything, tomorrow's never there
Beware the savage jaw
Of 1984

Come see, come see, remember me?
We played out an all night movie role
You said it would last, but I guess we enrolled
In 1984 (who could ask for more)
1984 (who could ask for mor-or-or-or-ore)
(Mor-or-or-or-ore)

I'm looking for a vehicle, I'm looking for a ride
I'm looking for a party, I'm looking for a side
I'm looking for the treason that I knew in '65
Beware the savage jaw
Of 1984

Come see, come see, remember me?
We played out an all night movie role
You said it would last, but I guess we enrolled
In 1984 (who could ask for more)
1984 (who could ask for mor-or-or-or-ore)
(Mor-or-or-or-ore)

1984 1984 1984 (more)
1984 1984 (more)
1984

General Comment:www (dot) shmoop (dot) com/1984/allusions.html ...should you wish to see a site entitled Allusions & Cultural References. It might explain why 1984 appears in many songs. Bowie was the man of the early 80's...quite the talent.

General Comment:To answer your question, 2nd man, look under Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family. It will answer your question completely. To tell you the truth, though, I still like 1984 coupled with 'Dodo'

General Comment:He's says jaw because it keeps in context and concept to dogs. Also Has anyone noticed why the last track 'Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family' turns into a cheesy pop track, maybe it's because he thought someone would turn Big Brother into a different concept. Rather than an evil nanny society, someone turn it into a s**t reality show.Makes you think. BOWIE IS AHEAD OF HIS TIME

General Comment:This is just one of Bowie's post-apocalyptic songs in Diamond Dogs produced in 1974. Originally, Bowie wanted to make a musical out of the album and he asked very impolitely for the rights from Mrs. Orwell. She said no, not only because Bowie was so coked up at the time, but that she despised the movie and felt that it was enough. Even though Rebel Rebel is a great song, this is really the heart of the album.

General Comment:The music in this song always reminds me of the music from War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne, along with the dystopian lyrics.

General Comment:love this song, first heard it on Arto Saari's part in Flip "Sorry", it then followed to Rock N' Roll Suicide. What a great combination!

General Comment:I don't like this or Big Brother for some reason. They're just... bleh.

General Comment:I really think this album is fantastic and vastly underrated ---the guitar work (kind of nasty.. rough and full of distortion) really fit the 1984 theme. "We are the Dead" the "Sweet Thing-Candidate-Sweet Thing Reprise", "Big Brother" etc. all fit the theme. This whole album rocks. Get "David Live" and hear these tunes with David Sanborn on sax - awesome....
