This basket arrives
To show your condolence
You hope that it finds me well
And just in time
This loss was unbearable
But now I have flowers
A thoughtful, blooming bright arrangement
I can out live too

Dress the corpse in his best
You only have one shot
To knock 'em dead
And toast to the way he left us
Counting our blessings
And holding our heads

We better speak up
We better say something
We better believe ourselves for once
'Cause he never said help
He never said anything
In the way that we trained ourselves to hear
It's only in this silence
That I can hear he'd been screaming
All alone, All along

Dress the corpse in his best
You only have one shot
To knock 'em dead
And toast to the way he left us
Counting our blessings
And holding our heads

Dress the corpse in his best
You only have one shot
To knock 'em dead

And I would have thought
That I had more color than him
But my skin is stark stark white
And ash covers my skin

Alternate Endings (He changes some lyrics from the two versions I've heard)

To toast to the way he left us
Counting our blessings
And holding his hand

Or

I should have worn make-up
It seems to have worked for him

General Comment:I'm glad dswmo456 said something about further seems forever. I recently heard the song and thought it was for someone from further seems forever, telling them to knock em dead on their last tour. Further Seems Forever's last CD was called "Hope this finds you well." I think Chris makes a reference to that when he says," You hope this finds me well."

General Comment:I agree with ThisFarthestThing. Unfortunately I have never heard this song, *cries*, but from reading the lyrics, that's what it sounds like to me. A suicide. "He never said help, he never said anything"... "It's only in this silence that I can hear he'd been screaming all along"... "maybe I should wear makeup, it seems to have worked for him." That is so sad.

If anyone has this song and feels nice, could you send it to me, along with any of his other rare non-released songs you might have? My email is on my profile. Thanks!

General Comment:i really dont like when ppl complain about one of thier favorite indie artists going big and say things like "i used to like them before everyone else did, im a real fan, now they suck" thats even worse than the ppl who just start liking a band once they get big, and for the record

General Comment:I think he's definitely using the flowers as a metaphor for his friend when he says "But now I have flowers
    A thoughtful, blooming bright arrangement
That I can out live too " Both were thoughtful, blooming, and bright in two seperate ways, but he'll out live both of them.

I need to stop listening to this song ;)

General Comment:amazing song! I love dashboard unconditionally. does anyone else think it may be relating to a suicide? "We better speak up
    We better say something
We better believe ourselves for once
    'Cause he never said help
    He never said anything
In the way that we dreamed ourselves
    It's only in dead silence
That I can hear him screaming
Oh no....oh no.... " Maybe it's him thinking that his friends never gave signs of how terrible he was feeling until it was to late. It seems like he's guilty for not being able to help. *shrugs* just a thought.
