Lyrics for Bushleauger as interpreted by Stephen_Flow

Bushleauger Lyrics
how does he do it? how do they do it? uncanny and immutable
this is such a happening tailpipe of a party
like sugar, the guests are so refined
a confidence man, but why so beleaguered?
he's not a leader, he's a texas leaguer
swinging for the fence, got lucky with a strike
drilling for fear makes the job simple
born on third, thinks he got a triple
blackout weaves its way through the city
blackout weaves its way through the city
blackout weaves its way...
i remember when you sang that song about today
now it's tomorrow and everything has changed
a think tank of aloof multiplication
a nicotine wish and a columbus decanter
retrenchment and hoggishness
the aristocrat choir sings, "what's the ruckus?"
the haves have not a clue
the immenseness of suffering
and the odd negotiation, a rarity
with onionskin plausibility of life
and a keyboard reaffirmation
blackout weaves its way through the city
blackout weaves its way through the city
blackout weaves its way...
i remember when you sang that song about today
now it's tomorrow and everything has changed
i remember when you sang that song about today
now it's tomorrow and everything has changed
changed, changed, chains, etc...

It's pretty obvious what this song is about. Ed is infamous for hating Republicans, the corporate rich, and successful wealthy people. I don't care too much for Ed's liberal rantings, but politics aside, the song has a cool, eerie vibe to it. Good song, but a weaker track on Riot Act.

ok, i love pearl jam, they are in my opinion one of the best bands ever, but Vedder is one paranoid crazy mofo, now i am border line conservative with some liberal views, and by no means do i think W is anywhere near the status of HW, and Regan, but i at least think he is a good guy doing what he thinks is right based on the info he has, but vedder attacks the man like he is the antichrist. vedder seems to think all republicans are evil, my opinion is much more like what Martin Sheen said on a West Wing Episode, something along the lines that he had fought democrats and republicans all men of god, all with the same intention of doing what was right, vedder however seems to think that bush is some kind of warmonger trying to exploit the emotions of a scared nation, now i wouldnt feel comfortable putting all my faith in GWB, but when he is getting his advice from Rumsfeld, Cheyney, Powell, and Ascroft, i feel quite confident that Bush knows a lot more about the situations we face Eddie Vedder, i dont want war, but i think brinkmanship is always neccessary, i am all up for protesting war and policies, but attacking bush shows how little class vedder has, if he wants to make a statement he should cover All You Need is Love or something, i dont really care what, anyway all that aside i love the band and cant wait till April 19, 2003, i have tickets to their atlanta show

Toolucky1234 are you one of those people Cobain made the song "In Bloom" for? Vedder has no class attacking Bush? I am glad that you think for yourself and not follow stuff just because Vedder likes it. However, let people have their opinion. Just because Bush has ass suckers behind him, does not mean he's a good president. The guy is an idiot who cannot present himself and is in control for power, not for the well being of America. He's blind, and I agree with Vedder. Just because you are a politician (not you, but in general) does not mean you know more than a civilian. "Bush knows a lot more about the situations we face Eddie Vedder"

good- more musicians actually writing songs about their anti-war stance instead of just stating their feelings and not singing about it (see also:sheryl crow). Ani Difranco's "self evident" is another good anti-war anti-bush song. If you really don't believe bush is evil go here:

aight, smokey31, despite how i sound in my last write in, i am against the war in iraq, and dont plan to vote for bush next time around because like daschle said "he failed miserably in diplomacy" my point is the song was written long before the war in iraq, im not against people who go against the war, i just dont quite agree with vedders mistrust expressed in the song, it reads like a conspiracy theory where bush and the republicans are the root of all evil, anyway, i gots to get to bed tommorow morning i drive to atlanta to see them, with all respect to the band, i hope they dont play this song

and by the way smokey31, i take offense at the in bloom comment, in bloom is about how people listen to music even though they dont know what its about, just cause its trendy, pretty much anyone who uses this site is the exact opposite, because we all are searching for the meaning of songs, i may have republican tendencies but that doesnt mean i dont think the bands covering of rockin in the free world is without reason, ill be the first to admit republican social policty has major flaws in it, anyway also on the point, riot act is by far not a trendy album, essentially pj lost all the trendy type fans with no code, the fact that i am familiar with and understand a not popular track on a not all that popular album is a complete contradiction to my being a follower because its trendy, if i were one of the in bloom people just because i disagree with some of the politics of the band then practically everyone falls into that category, few people have identicle political perspectives with vedder, i mean really he backed nader in the 2000 election, i mean really, he's to liberal to back the democrats, and in all frackness in a completly non mcarthian, non red scare type way, (non insultory) vedder is half way to being a communist

I think these lyrics are some the poorest he's ever written. :( Seems like prtentious nonsense to me. Pretty good song though, brilliant intro lick courtesy of Mike.

No matter what anyone says this is a great song. Bush is a moron, and rather than ranted about it Eddie put his feelings into lyrics. Which is more than what most do. This song is great and the lyrics are amazing. The whole Bush intelligence , haha thats an oxymoron, is ridiculous.Bush may know a little more, but if he understands it or not is another thing. I didn't vote for Bush and neither did most of America and i won't again. The man screwed us in foreign affairs and is driving us into WWIII. Eddie is a great song writer and stands by his views. Songs, poems, art and writing is all written on we feel. This is how eddie feels and that how he will right. And i gree with him on ideals, thats mainly why i listen to them.

Sorry fleaaaaaa - I think these lyrics are great. Best played up LOUD. Somehow I get a sense that Ed is quite proud of this song, especially when I saw him in Melbourne. Hey, you 2003 guys above - what do you think now that it's soooo obvious Bush lied through his crooked teeth?

I'm glad to see some one stepping up to the plate to share their views...Artists are afraid to speak up for fear of the backlash from their "so'cal fans", and because of that, it's great to see bands/artists like Pearl Jam, REM, Madonna, the dixie chicks, Jurasic 5, P.Diddy, Death Cab For Cutie, Bruce Springsteen, DMB, Maynard James Keenan, Serj Tankian, John Melencamp, and those precious few others standing up for what they believe in...More power to them!! And I love the part where Eddie says, "This is such a happening tailpipe of a party...", just because I've never heard the word tailpipe used that way before...Lol. That makes it interesting...And, I'm proud to say that I did my duty on Nov. 2nd this year. Showed up at the Albee Hall where all the old fogies go to vote...LOL...Wearing my Tool wristband, and my Metallica Tea-shirt to vote for Kerry...

Why do so many people think this is a "weak track"? Personally, I think this is one of the best songs on the album. The intro is great; the chorus, too. I haven't even got to the lyrics.

Bush is a stupid fuck. May he rot in hell for the 1400 soldiers he sent to die in a false war. And that's the honest sentiment from a veteran.

don't forget that bush is a product of the american system. the government is still a representative democracy, i.e. it's our fucking fault. an overwhelming majority of incumbent congressmen are reelected because people don't give a shit. half of the eligible voters couldn't inconvenience themselves on election day. if the average american joe had half the political enthusiasm of vedder, this song probably wouldn't exist.

that said, i like the aristocrat choir bit, brings some amusing images to mind

Where have all you liberal sissies been for the last 30-40 years?! Muslims have been murdering innocent Americans and others (especially other Muslims) for a very long time. I defy anyone to name one good thing ANY Muslim nation has ever done for the world. You act like you care about people. That's a load of crap. If you did care, you would have been screaming about terrorism all along. So, basically, it's ok when innocent civilians are AIMED at and intentionally murdered by terrorists, but America is evil when it retaliates in self defense. Grow the hell up you pussies. This is not Vietnam. Vedder and the Ditzy Hicks and other whiners like them wish they could've been around to protest Vietnam, but since they weren't they'll use any excuse they can to protest. It makes them feel important, when in actuality, their opinions are completely misguided and insignificant.

So now ur saying all Muslims are murder's? raciest much? you're part of what is wrong with America. you're making yourself sound like the ditzy hick. And very uneducated. There interpretation of the Quaran is not to kill and to be peaceful. Muslims are being totally mis represented by ignorant people just like you.

You're calling me uneducated and you spelled every other word in your post wrong. I never said all Muslims were murderers. I did say that no Muslim country has ever contributed anything to the benefit of mankind. That might not really be true, so maybe I should've left that out. If you had any sense at all you would have understood that part of what I said was in DEFENSE of decent Muslims. Terrorists have killed, and still are killing, more Muslims than anyone else. Meaning, they're killing more Muslims than they are killing anyone else AND that they are killing more Muslims than anyone else is.

"Born on third, thinks he got a triple."
This is my favorite lyric of all time. Presidents like Bush are born into rich families with histories of political power and many corporate connections. The lyric means that Bush was born into this kind of family but he thinks it makes him better and right. In fact, many actions of the Bush administration reflect sympathy for large corporate companies... consolodating them and such... read about the Enron scandle. However, I don't want to have a political discussion. Let's just focus on the music. Nice beat, catchy guitar riffs...

State your opinion, then say you don't want to talk politics. Better to be honest and say that your opinion is the only one you care to hear.
