light green to green, dark green, brown
every life is falling down
brown to black, its coming back
dies to be part of the ground
seed to seedling, root to stem
eyes, no eyes, there's no difference
every life is looking in
swallowing seeds on my death bed
dig a hole in the garden
everyone is practicing
but this world's an accident
i was the fool because i thought
i thought the world
turns out the world thought me
its all the other way 'round
we're upside down
daddy's gone up in flames
but this ain't no movie
this ain't no book you can close
when the big lie hits your eye
everyone is practicing
our world's an accident
i was the fool because i thought
i thought the world
turns out the world thought me
its all the other way 'round
we're upside down
down, down, down...
let the fluency set it down
let the fluency set it down
there's an upside of down
the moon is rolling 'round the world
the moon is rolling 'round the world
the world
our world...

General Comment:What's with the seed/plant references? It's like the singer is gonna return himself to the earth by eating plant seeds and then burying himself...

    General Comment:Theory...

It's a 9/11 song about losing a father and suddenly realizing that the world doesn't revolve around you. The "Big Lie" is that you are at the center of the universe, and something "hits your eyes", like 9/11, on TV, in the paper, etc.

I used to think it was about fame ("I was the fool because I thought the world... turns out the world thought me") or orthodox religion ("Everyone is practicing, this world's an accident...").

They all seem viable, and I wouldn't dismiss the idea that it has multiple meanings.

General Comment:To me, this song seems to be about a bit more than just the circle of life. Galileo was one of the most prominent figures in history to make the first move in convincing others that the earth, in fact, revolves around the sun. This song goes right along with that. "I thought the world. Turns out the world thought me." To me, that says that the "narrator" was convinced of an earth-centric universe. Instead, as it turns out, we're not even remotely the center. Not only are we not the center of our star system, we're a speck on a speck on a speck in terms of the vastness of the universe.

So, this song, to me, is about the realization that, hey, the world doesn't revolve around me. Man is not permanent, nor are we as important as many religions would have us believe. We are but one group of the privileged few to attain the status of the top of the food chain on this minuscule earth.

Is that depressing? Maybe. Until you consider the fact that the fact that we are here is a testament to the fortune that life is. Life is obscenely improbable at best. We're getting a shot at it now. So, while we aren't the be all and end all of this universe, we do have the opportunity to be here, at least for a while. So, enjoy it while it lasts.

Maybe I've read too much into this song, but that's what it means to me...

General Comment:i think this song is about creationism:
    "everyone is practicing
    but this world's an accident"
everyone follows a religion, but this man believes the world as we know it is purely coincidental.

"i was the fool because i thought
    i thought the world
turns out the world thought me
its all the other way 'round
    we're upside down "

the man has tried to live life explaining the world with science and thought instead of just living on a purely emotional level and simply loving life, when the whole time a God has merely "thought" and wished his existence and perhaps as a result created this man.

    "daddy's gone up in flames
    but this ain't no movie
this ain't no book you can close
when the big lie hits your eye "

perhaps a stab at the bible and other holy books, that may not hold any truth to the matter and those who follow them devoutly have no excuse when proved wrong.

General Comment:The first verse is about the cycle of life. Pretty straightforward. The line "Everyone is practicing" refers to religion, as most of the world practices religion. The line "But this world's an accident" refers to the fact that religion is false and that everything got here by natural means and not by creation. The line "I was the fool because I thought I thought the world, turns out the world thought me" is written from the perspective of a deity. "I thought I made the world, turns out the world made me" to paraphrase. "Daddy's gone up in flames" refers to the loss of a belief in a deity, while "when the big lie hits your eye" refers to the epiphany of realizing that everything you were taught about religion was a lie. Basically, this song is about the loss of faith.

General Comment:To me, this is a give or take song. I think it's okay, and nothing more. Usually when I hear it, I go "Ehhh...'' and switch over to "Ghost". It's not a bad song, it just never appealed to me.

General Comment:This song starts out talking about "the circle of life" basically... or the colors of life...

the chorus, which is arguably one of the deepest lines ever speaks of enlightenment:

I was the fool because I thought
    I thought the world,
Turns out the world thought me
It's all the other way round
    we're upside down...

something has been revealed to him, or he's discovered something that has basically turned his world inside out and upside down...

and he's trying to get used to it
    "let the fluency set in"

This really is an awesome song.... It deserves more attention.... but of the good kind,....

not the OMG I LUV THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111ONE!

the kind that involves thought... cause this song is killer deep....
