I would never bother you
I would never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you
Never say a word again
I will crawl away for good
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew it would come to this
Things have never been so swell
And I have never failed to fail
Pain
Pain
Pain
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
It's so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
There's talk about someone else
Steaming, soon begins to melt
Nothin' really bothers her
She just wants to love herself
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew it'd come to this
Things have never been so swell
And I have never failed to fail
Pain
Pain
Pain

You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know you're right
You know your rights
You know your rights
You know your rights

The following is a piece from an article on the website "Slate", and authored by David Samuels, written in 2002, when the song was finally released by Courtney, the dollar bills in her eyes outweighing the shame of Kurt's disdain for her.:
..."Here the "you" of the song is clearly the singer himself—the "I" of the preceding couplet. But when the chorus is over, a new target comes into view. "Let's talk about someone else/ Steaming soup against her mouth" the singer suggests, his voice rising back to the same pitch where he left off before. "Nothing really bothers her/ She just wants to love herself." With guitars building to a heavy, industrial crescendo, the accumulated strain in the vocal is again released in the phrase "You know you're right." Repeated over and over again, the singer's attack on himself is now turned against a new target—his wife.
Given the available evidence, it seems fair to say "You Know You're Right" is about Courtney Love—and that the release of the song marks the beginning of yet another chapter in the ongoing negotiation between the rock star and his wife about their famous marriage. Love has helped prevent the release of "You Know You're Right" until the end of 2002—eight years after it was recorded and eight years after Nirvana's commercial peak. She also made sure to first record her own version of "You Know You're Right" with her own band, Hole—a version in which she deliberately alters the lyrics, reversing the emotional dynamics of the song.
"Let's talk about someone else," Love's version begins, repeating the lines that her husband wrote. "She just wants to love herself." But Love was much too clever a survivor to be imprisoned for long in her husband's narrative of their difficult marriage. In Love's version, Kurt Cobain wasn't going anywhere; she was the one who was leaving him—but only in Kurt's frightened, childish, insecure mind. So, she rewrites her dead husband's song:"
i think its pretty clear, maybe just cause i listened to this song over and over when i felt the same way.
"you know youre right"
he probably had about a million people telling him what to do, giving him advice, telling him things that he knew were true, but still didnt listen to. he wants to kill himself and is telling everyone else before he does that they were always right. but just cause you hear all the right words doesnt mean you can listen..
I will never bother you
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you
Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good
he hates himsself, and feels like a burden, so he thinks it would be in everyones best interest to dissappear.
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this
I always knew it would come to this
he never had much hope, and always had the thought in the back of his mind that came out the day he died.. you wont be afraid of fear, he means, i think, that nobody would have to fear he was hurting them anymore by his actions and choices.
Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to fail
Pain
You know you're right
life sucks just as much as always, and again hes telling everyone else that they were right about him.and his mistakes.
I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
Let's talk about someone else
hes on heroin, and since he already admitted everyone else was right about it, he doesnt want to talk about it.
Steaming soup against her mouth
Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself
courtney not caring. dumb bitch. she just wants to love HERSELF not him
at the end he just keeps saying you know youre right, his last words to the world basically before he killed himself. the was saying he was leaving so as to not feel like a burden any longer, adadmitting he knew he was wrong and knew what he was probably hearing from people about his adiction and his BAD life choices was true, he just couldnt bring himself to listen, but felt bad for not listening all the same, so its almost an apology for not taking the advice, and a goodbye at the same time
Yes, the lyrics to the mastered studio track are obviously completely different, but no such version was available to us when I posted *these* lyrics.
Sounds like the words of somebody who tried their ass off to make things work in a relationship but their trying was in vain as it simply resulted in the girl walking all over him and mistreating him due to being a selfish cunt.
Kurt feels the same way a kid does when they're over-punished by their parents and feel absolutely miserable and start to wish they were dead, imagining how their family would really regret how they treated them and hope they learned something, but also because when you feel that miserable, you are in so much emotional pain that you can't sit there and take it any longer, you're ashamed of your own weakness and emotions and your situation, so you just want to crawl away and die like a dog where nobody could see you.
In regards to the whole "who killed Kurt" debate - I'm sorry folks, but we'll never know. Speculate all you want, but truth of the matter is, we will never know UNLESS somebody trustworthy & honest comes forward...with tangible proof, and nobody has... It's a shame, but all the same, instead of groaning about the lost talent why not pay your respects decently and just listen to his music instead of trying prove something that you will never be able to prove? Personally, I think it's a matter of bad timing and very shady circumstances.
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you
Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good
"If you cant stand the sight of me enough to divorce me, I'll just leave you the fuck alone. For good. Alot of anger in that."
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
"I guess you'll be fine, hope you're doing just peachy.(Sarcasm)"
No thought was put into this
I always knew it would come to this
"He knew from the start that one day he would end it, his relationship with courtney and his own life."
Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to fail
"pretty self explanatory. He was depressed."
Pain
You know you're right
I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
"He felt at home with Courtney, he could be himself and didn't have to hide."
Let's talk about someone else
Steaming soup against her mouth
Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself
"She was probably just the gossipy dramatic bitch that Kurt hoped she wouldn't be. When you love someone, sometimes they surprise you and you don't how to handle it. Considering Courtney was probably bi-polar, She started to show her true colors after marriage, which scared him."
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew to come like this
Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to fail
Pain
You know you're right
"You know what, you're right. all the shit you said and everything you did. you had every right to do. She probably used to cut him down. that really got to him. so he basically said fuck it, you're right. Im pathetic blah blah blah, etc etc."
Pain
"the only thing that summed up his life when it came down to it."
Beautiful song and very depressing. I think we all relate very well to what he felt, including me.
reading the first page of comments, what really irritates me is seeing that nobody really talks about the lyrical content, just speculations about Kurt Cobain's death and nothing really to do with the song.
i love going on this site to see how people interpret a song, if you want to have a bitch about Courtney do it somewhere else please.
