You will release your life
Forgetting what's forsaken the reason why
You are alone again
You will believe the lie
Judging from what you've taken
You breathe, alive
You are alone again

From the heart of darkness
You call to me
Spirit racing on
There is nothing I can do
For you are next to no one

You will release your life
Joining with the god damned world
Of the dead and the lonely
You'll never leave alive
Now do you think you're too damn good
For the killing kind

You will begin to cry
Hearing the silence breaking
You breathe, alive
But you are alone again

From the heart of darkness
You call to me
Spirit raging on
There is nothing I can do
For you are next to no one

You will release your life
Joining with the god damned world
Of the dead and the lonely
You'll never leave alive
Now do you think you're too damn good
For the killing kind

You will release your life
Forgetting what's forsaken
You breathe, alive
You are alone again

You will release your life
Joining with the god damned world
Of the dead and the lonely
You'll never leave alive
Now do you think you're too damn good
For the killing kind

Nothing I can do

My Interpretation:It almost sounds like a song from the point of view of someone looking onto someone who is is in grief or is facing a difficult stage in their life. The point of view seems to be that of God and Satan. The person seems to be at the cross roads. They must decide whether to face the issue themselves or run from it. Both God and Satan put in their 2 cents in. By the way I'm not religious, but I use God and Satan as a reference point.

    God:

    "From the heart of darkness

    - Darkness is a common analogy to depression, grief, or trying times.

    You call to me

-In many circumstances such as in grieving or a hopeless situation even the non-religious people will call out to God.

    Spirit raging on

    - Raging can be used to describe several powerful emotions going on at one time. Anger, grief, confusion, hatred, etc.

There is nothing I can do
For you are next to no one"

-Sometimes divine intervention can help. There are some things that only you can do.

    Satan:

    You will release your life

    - Suicide is brought on for the most part by hard times in people's lives. In many religions and philosophies suicide is taboo. Suicide results in one's soul going to Hell.

    - This is an option being presented, presumably by Satan as a solution to the problem being faced,

Joining with the god damned world
Of the dead and the lonely

-Hell is often seen as a place as the dead go, however people who are socially isolated for any reason may be in their own hell as well.

    You'll never leave alive

    - Once you go down this path there is no returning.

Now do you think you're too damn good
    For the killing kind

    - An "are you sure" question is being asked. This refers back to "You will release your life". It asks if you are ready to be counted among murderers and other vile souls. It also makes them question do they want to be counted among those kind of people.

General Comment:According to an interview David stated that this song describes the new tragedy of our lives, that even if we find love, the life we have chosen does not seem to want to let us keep it.

This song can almost seem to be about a girlfriend / mistress / wife that is trying to change him and/or control him. The name bound probably stands for him being bound to her,"think your a little bit closer to changing me" shows it right there, and like he says "you wasting time-Leave me be"

General Comment:When I felt like something evil was overcoming me, I'd use this song to make it goaway. So, I think it meansd Satan is oo stupid for us humans to let him hate on us. Or rather a demon or something like that.

General Comment:this does sound a lot like it's about a priest who thinks that he's too good for the rest of the "non-righteous" world but he's really just as bad as the rest of them.

General Comment:The song is about the Devil convincing a guy to kill himself, because he is alone. "You will release your life." That's how David writes, Kill yourself (See Inside the Fire). "Forgetting what is forsaken" The Bible tells you never to take a life, so it's forsaken. The Devil is telling the guy to forget about God's morals. "From the heart of darkness....For you are next to no one." That whole little part, is about when the guy comes to the Devil. His spirit raging on, because he is reaching that state of insanity. And the Devil tells him to kill himself, that's the only way. I'll do one more part, then go to another song. "You will release your life(Kill yourself.)
Joining with the goddamn world(Go to hell.)
Of the dead and the lonely(With the others like you)
You’ll never leave alive(Just give in and die)
Now do you think you’re too damn good
For the killing kind"(You think you can't take a life?)

    That's basically everything.

General Comment:Here's what one reviewer says:

"Draiman examines the flip side of belief on "Breathe," an itchy prog-metal experiment with a fist-pumping chorus that recalls Priest at their glammiest. There’s a fine line between belief and self-righteousness, the song warns, and you’ll end up alone if you cross it."

    Isn't that the truth...

General Comment:I really don't believe it's any of that, in fact I find most the explanations rather shallow, except Dream, that's a bit abstract though. Personally I feel it's a murderer's internal thought process in reference to their victim.

General Comment:well after reading the lyrics over and over again, I stumbled on the first part, "you will release your life forgetting what is forsaken the reason why you are alone again you will believe the lie judging from what you have taken you breathe alive you are alone again." so , since there whole cover is about religion and this is a religious theme obviously , i interpreted it as the lie being the garden of eden, when eve was decieved and believed the lie, that she could make decisions on her own independantly form god "judging from what youve taken" (hence the forbidden fruit), . after I interpreted it as that I noticed that part that states "you breathe alive, you are alone again" so, mankiind has continued breathing and is alive, however they are alone from god. and then he goes on to sing "you will release your life, joining with the goddamned world.......of the dead and lonely you will never leave alive, now do you think you are too damn good for the killing kind" , there I thought still that this world is damned for destruction and do people think they are too damn good for the killing kind. that the world has released their lives, and they won't leave alive." hence no one will escape the destruction of evil mankind that continues on their own away from god. I hope this doesn't confuse anyone, but this is my interpretation of what he meant, also if anyone noticed those really tiny words in the middle of the lyrics that divides the sections, it almost explains davids meaning of the cd and why it is called believe.
