Believe, when you lie
You will never need to recognize yourself
To deceive
To remove all chance of doubt and be received
With your lie
The deception is complete when you concede
And decide
To reject your lives, sacrificed to me

Penance can't absolve your sin
All your belief
Cannot absolve your sin

Believe, when you lie
You will never need to recognize the source
Of deceit
To renew your faith in God
You must believe, in your lie
The redemption is complete when you conceive
And decline
To release your lives
Sacrificed to me

Penance can't absolve your sin All your belief
Cannot absolve your sin

Reap your life, like you want to
recognize, all you've come to

Reap your life
Veiled in shadow
Recognize
Faces of the crucified
I can hear their screams tonight
Ever haunting me

Burn your lie into me

Penance can't absolve your sin
All your belief
Cannot absolve your sin

General Comment:I love disturbed and their enigmatic lyrics, I believe in God and I don't think this song denies the existence of him, I do believe that this song is telling us that is not enough to feel repent for the bad things we do in our messed up life, we have to amend the errors that hurt others instead of being in a four wall building repeating things just because...I think it's about action not just the talking which I believe it's the most hard thing to do. The line that says: "To renew your faith in God You must believe, in your lie..." Might be talking about the feeling of complience we feel after we recite a prayer which we want to use as a pill to release our guilt and feel free for the bad things we do... anyway that's just my opinion.........

General Comment:DisturbedMetallica i must say on level i agree with you that people bindly run to their church and their relgion to "cleanse" their sins, i agree that that is foolish and that their is no way for retribution in its entirety, but i must disagree about god, i believe he exists as otherwise we wouldnt be on this planet or in existance, leaving the evolutionists to argue with, but truly i think god exists, whether god is a man woman spirit, or perhaps even a system such as in the theory of evolution, because either way, dont you understand that just naturally people who sin are finallly delt with and those who do good are rewarded, god is the basis of all creation, whether it is buddha, evolution, jeheovah, etc., god could be ther very substance that was theoriized to explode and cause the big bang, and even if i didnt stand by these beliefs then you must understand that too much is in occurance with religion, political issues, ecenomics, the world is simply not ready to be reveiled the truth, which is why god whatever it is leaves us guessing, even with atheism, lest the world crack down on itself

General Comment:Trust me, I'm confident in my beliefs/lack there of. I really don't mean to start up ridiculous hate conversations, I'm just sharing my views of the song. It just irks me that people try to say that this isn't about God/religion, when it clearly is, and I was merely proving my point. I just fail to see why people but so much time and devotion into religion, and never get anything out of it. When I would go to church, i would see people who would pray all day, and then when the tiniest thing would happen, it was God. The devoted all the time in the world, and the only thing they had to show for it was years of time wasted in that church. Can you honestly say to your self that God has answered a prayer of yours?

General Comment:Obviously this song is against religion in everything it says.
People tend to follow a religion, because if they didn't, they would realize how shitty there lives are, and that they can't accept that what happens to them isn't without a higher being controlling it. And ones who are in a religion don't quit, (not because they believe in their faith) but because if they did, they would realize that they have been wasting their lives/time into nothing. So people blindly believe these fake religions. He's saying that people create these fabricated faiths (a lie) to make them selves feel better, and that they must Believe their "lies" to "renew their faith with God", and that in REAL life, believing in your "faith" doesn't make you clean, blameless or sinless. (all your penance can't absolve your sin, all your belief can't absolve your sin).
So don't say this song isn't against religion, because it is. Just because you sad, pathetic religious nuts listen to Disturbed, doesn't mean its going to fit into your beliefs. Just accept the facts, and realize that your a fucking hypocrite every time you listen to one of their songs. Religion can devour people whole, brainwashing them into their pathetic beliefs. So be sensible, I beg you, and drop your religion before it consumes everything that you are.

General Comment:To me, this song tells you that it doesn't matter what your belief you possess, what God(s) you believe in, the crimes are crimes and your "sins" cannot be absolved just because you "repent from them". I could be wrong, but I love this song!

General Comment:i think he is saying that asking for forgiveness for you sin doesnt really mean anything if you keep doing it over and over again. That you need to repent from the sin and stop it, not just ask for forgivenss knowing your going to do it again

General Comment:I suppose your right JABOOLIA, but I think it's about the person thinking he's going to hell because of his lie (sin).

General Comment:this seems that it's kind of like about a Christian who convinces himself that all the bad things he's doing are actually right and that all the lies he's telling himself and others are true and that he can't truly be saved unless he starts to realize the truth and starts to actually live it.
