Hey, let's cross the sea
And get some culture
Red wine with every meal
And absinthe after dinner
We look good side by side
Walking back to the hotel

We've got to get something
To eat and to drink, yeah
And find a place to stay
That's not far off the main way
We've got to plan our day
Rodin and the Orsay
And find a way to cram it all in
Before we drink hard again

Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight
Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight

This light looks good on you
Morning came early
Sitting on a park bench
That's older than my country

Two star hotel, hotel
Two star hotel, hotel

Two star hotel
Near St. Germaine
Two star hotel
Where the stars don't mean
Stars don't mean anything

We got to get something
To eat and to drink, yeah
We found a place to stay
That's not far off the main way

Let's get a bottle

We've got to get something
To eat and to drink, yeah
And find a place to stay
That's not far off the main way
We've got to plan our day
Rodin and the Orsay
And find a way to cram it all in
Before drink hard again

Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight
Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight

General Comment:I went to Europe last summer. I discovered this song a few months after my trip. I can relate to this song so much. Everything in this song relates to my trip for the most part. I went there with my girl. We did have red wine with every meal. We of course pounded absinthe over there. We stayed at a two star hotel in France (which didn't matter). Best trip a 17 year old could ask for. MTB <3

General Comment:Probably the best and most beautiful song they have ever written. It just gives me such a happy feeling plus the guitarwork on this song is in a league of its own. It was my first mtb song too :]

General Comment:Anyone else listen to this song high and think it was the MOST EPIC thing in the world? I've heard this song a million times and it's always been my favorite, especially to sing along with, but I finally listened to it high and was just in complete AWE, I didn't know I could like it any more.

General Comment:This song, and almost all Minus The Bear songs, remind me *a lot* of Death Cab.
I think this song is about going to a foreign country and having not a care in the world about what goes on; about wanting to just have a good time and being worry-free.

General Comment:absinthe is a liquor that's widely available in europe. the green absinthe is banned in england (where i live), because of its strength and halluciagenic qualities, but can be purchased on the continent. i think there is reference to green absinthe in the way the song has an almost dream like quality. having been to france 9 times (i was actually there 3 days ago.!) it's a myth that green absinthe is easily purchased. the only times i've ever tried it legally was in majorca, one of the spanish party islands. in some ways its ironic that they sing about a "culture" that is in reality more associated with binge drinking and english teenagers.

General Comment:One thing that I think is overlooked or looked into too much is in respect to the Absinthe bit. Now, I know we don't have it in the states; however in Europe (especially France) when you are finished with a meal, you are given a shot of liquor to help digest the food. Now, I'm not sure if that's the real reason behind it, or if they just like getting people drunk, nevertheless it works out in my favor lol.

But yes, this song, and other songs, have references to France. Although it is more subtle in other songs. But yeah, from my visits to Europe (I know others have already said this, but I will as well), you don't have a care in the world. The place is just so amazing that getting a bottle with someone by your side taking in the culture is just something you will never forget. You know what, I'm not sure if it's the same in France, but I know in Germany you can walk around with open containers. Does anyone know if that's true for France?
