Lyrics for Adios as interpreted by gasmask

Adios Lyrics
Er legt die Nadel auf die Ader
und bittet die Musik herein
zwischen Hals und Unterarm
die Melodie fährt leise ins Gebein

Los

Er hat die Augen zugemacht
in seinem Blut tobt eine Schlacht
ein Heer marschiert durch seinen Darm
die Eingeweide werden langsam warm
Los

Nichts ist für dich
nichts war für dich
nichts bleibt für dich
für immer

Er nimmt die Nadel von der Ader
die Melodie fährt aus der Haut
Geigen brennen mit Gekreisch
Harfen schneiden sich ins Fleisch
er hat die Augen aufgemacht
doch er ist nicht aufgewacht

Nichts ist für dich
nichts war für dich
nichts bleibt für dich
für immer

Not completely what this song is about. Part of me says drugs, the other part says music. It's a good song either way.

I'd say it's about drugs.

Translation:

He lays the needle in the vein
and he asks the music to come inside
between his throat and forearm
the melody travels softly in the bones

Go! Go! Go!

He has closed his eyes
a battle rages in his blood
an army marches through his bowel
the intestines become warm slowly

Go! Go! Go!

Nothing is for you
nothing was for you
nothing remains for you
forever

He takes the needle from the vein
the melody travels out of the skin
violins burn with shrieking
harps cut the flesh
he has opened his eyes
but he is not awake

Nothing is for you
nothing was for you
nothing remains for you
forever

I agree; it certainly has drug-use overtones, but I am more inclined to say that the actual meaning of the song lies in the hopelessness and meaninglessness of life. The chorus lines (Nothing remains for you) seem to support this. Also, the "breakdown" of the music that occurs just after the midpoint of the song, like the one in "Rein Raus", is simply the most awesome sound ever made by anything.

Oh, by the way; if you listen carefully after each set of three "Los"es, someone (Richard?) says something that sound like "bop bop shu bop". Turn up the volume and listen closely; it's really there...

Jaeger-
Where do you get this stuff? What even leads you to believe they're singing about Kursk, does teh song make some sort of vague references to tanks that the rest of us can't see?

I always personally believed that this song was abotu the pointlessness(is that even a word?) of using drugs as an escape to your problems.

This song describes a drug-trip ... and the pain during the coming down.

"nichts bleibt für dich
für immer"
Nothin will last, drugs won't help you ...

To me, it's a drug overdose. The character in this song has had nothing and is on drugs to escape reality - that he's had nothing and there will be nothing. And so he never wakes up again.

First I think is the best song on Mutter. Secondly this song kinda reminds me of Coma White by Marylin Masnson

hmm another possible translation for the lines
"Er hat die Augen aufgemacht
doch er ist nicht aufgewacht" is
"He has opened his eyes
but he hasn't woken up"
for me verry obvious that the main character is dead.
Im not shure if its so clear in english, but if you listen to it in german, its quite clear.

i think this song is really good i like the beginning how it takes a while to actually get going, i think it is to do with music being like a drug, 'die Melodie fährt leise ins Gebein (the melody travels softly in the bones). sometimes when u are down music can have the effect of drugs the whole feel good factor and all associated with music and also drugs.

I like Rebekka's theory, I never really listened to any music at all but since about 3 months ago I'm listening to Rammstein nonstop... some music is soooooo addictive XD

It could also be about someone getting lethal injection... It says "He lays the needle into 'the' vein," it doesn't say the person put the needle into his own vein.

"nothing is for you" >>> drug addiction destroys your life.

To me this song is about addiction, heroin in particular, and how it basically destroys your life (hence the title, adios)

er, i'd go with the drug theory as well... however, as with so much of rammstein's songs, there's an alternate meaning. to me it describes music as the ultimate trip; that without music you are empty, only with the music in your "veins" are you really alive. just a thought...

This song is supposed to be partly a tribute to the Ramones, who they toured with in '95. Adios Amigos is also the name of their last album.

I think this song is about a guy who takes a overdose (don't know if it's rigt spelling because i'm from Austria ;) ) maybe heroin. the "music" is here a metaphor for the drug, the so-called Refrain ("nothing is for you...") describes the desperate situation the person is in and so he commits suicide ("he has opened his eyes but he's not awake/but he hasn't woken up").
and as balkazar already wrote before, the lyrics describes the pain and all the other feelings... in the first and the last verses with music (mostly) and the middle verse (??) describes the feelings with terms of war (??) maybe it's also important that he closes his eyes as it starts and opens them just as it ends... maybe it shows that he could just feel something when he don't see his life or the world or something... just for brainstorming....

"Nothing is for you, nothing was for you, nothing remains for you, forever (allways)" makes it pretty clear to me, that it's about suicide by overdose. I don't now the actual effects of heroine overdose, but I think he want's to go with a bang. He's completely blacked out, but inside he feels very alive (as you hear in the music) until he dies.
And "er hat die augen aufgemacht, doch er ist nicht aufgewacht" is best translated as "and he opened his eyes, but he did not wake up". In german it's pretty obvious that he's dead.

'He opened his eyes, but didn't wake up' means, to me, that he isn't really consciously living life. He's wasting it as the refrain says; he has nothing to show for his addiction. The music metaphor, to me, represents the sensations of drug use. I think the title Adios refers to the druggie being left behind as he meets whatever end his drug use brings him.
