Amarillo by mornin'
Up from San Antone
Everything that I got
Is just what I've got on

When that sun is high in that Texas sky
I'll be buckin' at the county fair
Amarillo by mornin'
Amarillo, I'll be there

They took my saddle in Houston
Broke my leg in Santa Fe
I lost my wife and a girlfriend
Somewhere along the way

But I'll be lookin' for 8 when they pull that gate
And I hope that judge ain't blind
Amarillo by mornin'
Amarillo's on my mind

Amarillo by mornin'
Up from San Antone
Everything that I got
Is just what I've got on

I ain't got a dime but what I got is mine
I ain't rich but Lord I'm free
Amarillo by mornin'
Amarillo's where I'll be

Amarillo by mornin'
Amarillo's where I'll be

I love this song-he re-wrote country music and put it on the map
    with this song.

General Comment:This song always makes me sad, it was played at my grandpa's funeral as they carried his casket out of the church.

General Comment:Great song! Very simple, straight to the point - and heartfelt. It is a short song, but it packs one mean punch. I agree with many of you on here about the lines:

    "I ain't got a dime, but what I got is mine./I ain't rich, but Lord I'm free."

Two very well written lines. I do like Strait's version, because he puts so much feeling into the song.

General Comment:this is a bad ass song. its s song about a real cowboys life. he's always heads up to the next rodeo down the road. anyone who reads this rember,,, "from cowboy boots to busness suits it hurts when you get knocked down, but you got to get back on" i heard that the other day and it has been on my mind. i think chris ladoux said it in a song and i may have fu*ked it up. but you get the jist of it.

General Comment:No Comments about this song! I can't believe it!! My favorite George Strait song-
"I ain't got a dime but what I got is mine...I ain't rich, but lord, I'm Free..." What an awesome line...This song makes me think of a young guy who is just out living life-struggling with not having a whole lot, but knowing that he's gonna do what he can to make it-and he will make it! Love it!
