[VS1:]
I know I know the sun is hot
Mosquitoes come and suck your blood
Leave you there all alone
Just skin and bone

When you walk among the trees
Listening to the leaves
The further I go the less I know, the less I know

[CH:]
Where will you run?
Where will you hide?
Lullaby´s to paralyze

[VS2:]
Fat and soft, Pink and weak
Foot and thigh, tongue in cheek
You know I´m told they´ll swallow you whole,
Skin and bone

Cutting boards, hanging hooks
Bloody knives, cooking books
Promising you won´t feel a thing at all

[CH2:]
Swallow and chew, eat you alive
All of us food, that hasn't died

[VS3:]
Simmering, pick and pluck
Tenderize, bone to dust
The sweetest grease
The finest meat you´ll never taste

So you scream, whine and yell
The supple sounds of dinner bell
We all will feed the worms and trees so don´t be shy

[CH2:]
Swallow and chew, eat you alive
All of us food, that hasn't died

General Comment:I think this a very dark end to an album about traveling across America and flipping from station to station.

This may seem strange, but I always imagined it was about a tribe of cannibals living out in an oasis somewhere in the desert, and the main character has the misfortune to stumble upon them.

Anyway, it gives me chills. The way he slowly reveals all these little ugly, sickening details... the parts that use the most 'normal' images (cooking books, dinner bells) are the most horrifying. Plus the cold, emotionless way he sings about the victims screaming and begging... eugh.

    Fantastic song, though.

My Interpretation:I am pretty sure this song is about a cannibal/serial killer, trying to justify what they're doing. They know it's wrong, but they're trying to convince themselves that we're all going to die anyways.

Song Meaning:I think its about a weight loss program, or just overweight people in general. It talks about food they just would love to eat, but they cant because they know its bad for them. I can completely relate to this song, but I have no idea where mosquitoes come into this.. Maybe overweight vampires???

General Comment:This song is about cannibalism, and like many songs, sex. Oral in fact, the fixation of madly eating the female organ (can I say that). The loss of control, the desire. QOTSA is not as Godless as some might expect. This song is explaining the connection between the desire for the sweetest flesh, though the flesh will pass away, return to the earth, and the burning lust and passion that make an empty life (A Godless life) nothing more than sad hypocrisy. It is a song to make you think. If we are only animals, why do we have choice, reason, ideals, and control? Queens of The Stone Age talk about this very thing in many of their songs. I think in hope that people will realize this universe and world is much more complex than a big bang theory and slime evolution. This song, like era vulgarus, is a wake up call, are you dumb enough to continue believing what the world programs you to believe? Can any of you get out of the herd mentality your in? Or are you all cows in the pasture? That's what Elitists, Masons, Shriners, Rosicrucian, Satanists, etc. think. Wake up religion is dead, there is only one true God, but most of you are to afraid to except it and take responsibility for yourselves. A slave mentality. Politicians love it, it makes humans that much more predictable.

General Comment:girth has it right, I think-- at least that's my interpretation of it.

After being broken up with from the same guy for the last damn time last winter-- and I was always the one to break up with all the one's previous so I never felt the pain of being dumped until he came along-- this song is pretty much how I felt after. It was all I could listen to, and it emulated exactly how it felt for my heart to bleed. The violins were the bleeding, and the beautiful lonely lute that strums away was the hopelessness I felt.

General Comment:I love this song even though it's a little dark. I think it's basically saying, no matter how it happens we all end up worm food or fish food so just enjoy yourself while you can. Unless of course you think you get another go at this life by putting more money into the machine when you kick the bucket.

General Comment:The best lyrics are ones that leave something to the imagination, as most QOTSA lyrics do.

Josh's lyrics always blend life, love and death, sometimes in a dark way, sometimes in an angry way.
You've got angry and sinister songs like Song For The Deaf, then less angry but just as dark songs like this one. They touch similar themes.

Josh often talks about being with the person that he loves as being a piece of meat for them to carve, and do with as they please. The Blood is Love off Lullabies to Paralyze (geddit? blood/mosquito) is a good example of this. Also take the film clip to Sick, Sick, Sick. It basically depicts parts of what he's describing in this song.

People have hinted at it, my guess he's referring to mosquitoes as people that drain you and leave you.
Being social animals, it's our nature to give ourselves to others, yet, by the same token, you are always presenting yourself to be carved up and drained, so in the end, we're all somebody else's food on an emotional level. You need to feed off others and others need to feed off you.

Just make sure you feed off quality product. Obesity/Type 2 Diabetes is a real problem.

General Comment:This song used to give me chills and make me a little scared. I love it when music has that profound of an impact on a person.

As for the meaning, I think its pretty clear that it is about cannibalism. Thats how I see it at least. Amazing song.

General Comment:I think it's talking about the futility of trying to live a good life. Despite all you may try to do, this world sucks you dry and tears you to pieces. And at the end of it all, you succeed only in feeding the tre worms and the trees. This is by far one of the most hopeless songs I've ever heard. The fact that they add eat you alive is particularily chilling because this I think means that the world tears you apart psycologically before you die and are decomposed.

    This song is flawless.

Try listening to the themesong for tristram from the first diablo game after this one. It's really cool.

    Eat you alive
All of us food that hasn't died

I think this song is more about how the world can pick and tear you apart as you go through life. Not about how meaningless life is, and that all you are is maggot food. If that was so the line "eat you alive" wouldn't be there.
