Things I don't remember
How the hell'd we get here
How the hell did we get here?
Things I don't remember
Dressed up alligator
How the hell'd we get here?
Things I don't remember there was dressed up alligator there was come on the piano, disco dancing neighbors.
who were born in mashed potatoes, caught with my pants down.
hiding in the doghouse, we figured out what we're good for.
youre the sailor and i'm the port
things i dont remember.
we undressed for the the tailor, youre skin was lightly salted. open up a can of loudmouth malted hi fives in your eyes pushed the gas and now im kissing your thighs.
looking for a purpose.
how the helld we get here?
there were things i dont remember.
there was messed up alligator, there was endless conversation. no ones mouths were really moving.
all them dumpsters overflowing
all my
things i dont rembember (xalot)
figured out what im good making anything look better how the hell could i blame her? even then i was a sailor
there were jokes that never land
every hand was tipped and some to the sand
things i dont remember

General Comment:It's sad to see that almost all of you can't look past his abstraction of words and see the underlying story he is talking about, and the questions he is forcing us the listener to consider..., he's not talking about taking drugs and having orgies and what not,(even though he may be suggesting this, it only ends up being the most topographical level of thought to the song) he's really questioning where man came from and why are we even here? hence "things i dont remember
how the hell'd we get here" and than goes on saying
"things i don't remember there was dressed up alligator there was cum on the piano, disco dancing neighbors.
who were born in mashed potatoes, caught with my pants down.
hiding in the doghouse, we figured out what we're good for."
All of which is the beginning of the story of Genesis. When he says "there was dressed up alligator" he is referring to god,(while using a double atandre because the serpent in seen as evil,devil,Satan...ect, so he is taking a shot at god at the same time, making us think about who god really is and is he good or bad or neither...) then the "there was cum on the piano" which is when god says let there be light (hence cum, aka DNA which is the basis of all complex life form, the double helix is a key to life... as to why on the piano? Real simple, piano's make vibration which make a frequency or sound-wave, and if anyone knows what modern physics is telling us about our universe and us, is that everything is just vibrations or some form of a wave. Than I think the next line is pretty straight forward, which is talking about Adam and eve(disco dancing neighbors), than how they were born (born from mash potatoes) than mentions original sin (caught with my pants down) than says "hiding in the dog house, we figured out what we're good for" which is just him talking about them being thrown out of the garden of Eden and figuring out that they were siners. (By the way I am in no way means religious, I'm just not retarded and know what a metaphor/allegory/double atandre...ect when I see one. The rest of the song he is just talking about life, what it means to be human and alive, and what is are purpose if there is any... Now for those who aren't going to believe this, my evidence to why he would be talking about god and such is because real simple, he does in a lot of other songs. One that should jump out to everyone is modest mouse's "Bukowski" which he parallel's God to Bukowski, while making fun of Bukowski himself, but really it is all just a double atandre, because he is actually giving props to Bukowski by writing like him,(the negative pessimistic way) and most importantly by following Bukowski's philosophy, which most simply can be put as "be yourself". Brock's not stupid by any means, and wouldn't be wasting his time on lyrics that didn't mean nothing despite how abstract it may seem at first...

General Comment:Dead amusing song. A bit of fun I think. Too many big nights, great times and not enough memories to account for them.
I think it should all be taken with a pinch of salt. Its lyrical tequila.

General Comment:There seems to be a tone of regret mixed in with the random drunken buffoonery.
hiding in the doghouse, we figured out what we're good for.

figured out what im good making anything look better how the hell could i blame her? even then i was a sailor

Its no secret that Brock used to do a hell of a lot of drugs. When he quit, he stated that it was "just something I have to stay away from." Thats paraphrased, but still, Ive hung out with plenty of people who have taken drugs past the point of fun, and fallen into a pretty dark place, something that Im guessing Brock could relate to.

General Comment:Sometimes i feel like i know exactly what the song means even when I'm not really listing to the lyrics. Music can really link to a variety of some of my most simple or complex feelings or emotions. sometimes so vague that i don't understand.

This song reminds me of.. things i don't remember. You know how sometimes you have a very strange dream that you can only remember small parts to but not much of anything but you know it was something because you feel so strange afterwards?

Its those things you understand but your not really sure what or why you understand...?

It could be a dream or a drug induced fantasy or simply a metaphor of those things that you cant quite grasp. I agree with jumper when he said its just really about what the song means to you. especially this one with its strange vague convoluted lyrics.

I Looove the live version. love the guitar really sets the mood and i think he really gets the message out better when its just him and his guitar. i feel like i connect with it more in the live version. This is one of those songs where the live version is much better In my opinion :p

General Comment: its "push the gas and now I'm kissin' good-byes" not your thighs, they say "things I don't remember" 21 times. its "every end was too disciplined in the sand", and the "all my" is finished with "mellow-bellied tempations", and "no one's guts were really moving", and you really need to stop publishing lyrics and get your hearing checked. Great song, great band that shouldve had a better run

General Comment:Any idea what the line "every hand was tipped and some to the sand" means? That one has always stood out to me and I just cannot figure it out.
