Lyrics for Dammit as interpreted by TBSdude70x7

Dammit Lyrics
It's alright to tell me
what you think about me
I won't try to argue
or hold it against you
I know that your leavin
You must have your reasons
The season is callin
Your pictures are fallin down

The steps that I retrace
The sad look on your face
The timing, and structure
Did you hear that he fucked her?
A day late, a buck short
I'm writing the report
on losing, and failing
When I move, I'm flailing now

And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sticks to the masterplan
But everybody's gone
and I've been here for too long
to face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up

And maybe I'll see you
at a movie, sneak preview
You'll show up, and walk by
on the arm of that guy
And I'll smile, and you'll wave
We'll pretend it's ok
The charade, it won't last
When he's gone I wont come back

And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sticks to the masterplan
But everybody's gone
and I've been here for too long
to face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up

Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up

its.. perfect. really it is. it hits the nail on the head for teenage relationships that go sour, and even the tone of the guitar is befitting to the actual lyrics. the grinding, sharp and piercing main riff is just the right sound to take out certain frustrations and its just great.

fuckin awesome song

on the second time they sing the verse

"And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sticks to the masterplan
But everybody's gone
and I've been here for too long
to face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up"

it sounds like they're singing

And it's happened once again
You'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sticks to the masterplan
But everybody's gone
and You've been here for too long
to face this on your own
Well I guess this is growing up

Everyone has to stop bitching and complaining. For one thing this is a songmeaning site and not a "I think my opinion is better than yours site" secondly music shouldnt have a fucking label. In the end its just sound. I do realize that i contributed to the bitching and complaining......FUCK

this song is simply about being a guy, and getting dumped by your girl. The first verse is about how the guy isn't judging her for breaking up with him. He's sort of accepting it. The 2nd verse is about the guy going back in his mind and wondering where the relationship went wrong. His mind is kind of a mess. The chorus is all about the guy turning to his friends for support, to help him get through the aftermath of the breakup. He sort of realizes that he has to get past the breakup, and sort of take it as another experience, hence, "well I guess this is growing up." Finally, the 3rd verse is about how the guy sees his ex with another guy. He has a little bit of animosity towards her, but he doesn't really show it. He's pretty much over her, so when she decides she wants him back, he won't want to. This song is awesome, it means a lot more to me now, since I just got dumped, and the lyrics basically emulate everything I'm feeling right now.

THEY AREN'T EVEN SELLOUTS! HELLLOOOO! did they change their style of music? NO! that means that they are NOT SELLOUTS! It only means that people finally caught on to the great stuff they were playing. If they didn't change the way they played, and the songs they wrote, then they didn't sellout. More fans like them now, and the media saw their potential. That's all. The real posers in life are the ones that decide its cool to be underground and not be noticed. Because youre the ones who are struggling to fit a profile. They can't control their fanbase, so wats the problem? making good music should be rewarded, just like they did. IDIOTS. ALL OF YOU WHO THINK BLINK 182 IS A SELL OUT. AND EVEN ALL OF YOU WHO SAY ITS OK THAT THEY SELLOUT AND YOU STILL LIKE THEM. THEY NEVER SOLD OUT!

This song is the nest by Blink ever.
I always assumed it's about trying to win your ex girlfriend back (from the video anyway) but she doesn't want to know and goes off with another guy

something of a rarity these days a lighthearted punk song that doesn't sound like shit, blink 182 was always the best at that. I miss the era when bands made good songs like this one.

i hope someone can read this and please just understand how much this song means to me. ive always been a blink fan since i was in 5th grade and now as i return from senior week today it has never given me more meaning than now...

i went on senior week and became best friends with four girls from a hotel down the street who by chance went to a high school right next to mine (a rival actually) i became especially close with one girl who had a boyfriend and we just clicked and one thing led to another and ended up having sex.
i felt like a terrible person her boyfriend doesnt know but he found out she kissed some guy the first night she was down so they arent together...but as of last night the girl and her boyfriend are talking again and apparently alot better.
and i know they are going to get back together. but i have fallen so hard for this girl it is insane and i know i shouldnt have done what i did (we were both drunk as shit) but....the bond we have is something ive never felt with anyone after only a week's time.
but with the song i feel this is growing up for me. ive lost my virginity to someone who means so much to me and i thought we could actually work things out since she and her boyfriend broke up. now im fucked up but what should i expect.

if anyones been in a situation like this please hit me up on aim. my sn is sublimenbx
id really appreciate it.

Whoever says any type of music sucks is just uneducated. It may not be to your taste, but if they make it that big, obviously they don't suck... with the exception of gimmicks like William Hung. Blink 182 had been playing for more than a decade, and they have millions of fans. Yes, of course they sold out, but it's still doing what they love doing, getting paid, getting free stuff. There is nothing wrong with selling out as long as you stay the same. If they were to become stuck up assholes, too good to converse with the crowd, too stuck up to do anything, then yeah, that's wrong.

Anywho, the meaning of the song is pretty simple.

#1 It's about a girl who is leaving her boyfriend for another guy. This now ex-boyfriend of hers completely understands that she has her reasons and won't try to get her to stay with him.

#2 Looking back on their relationship, he remembers the sad look on her face, and possibly someone spreading a rumor about one cheating on the other. He was late, and too poor, which makes him feel like he's a loser and a failure, and he's struggling to get himself together.

Chrous: It wasn't the first time a girl has done this to him. So he tries to go ask his friends for help, because they'd understand, and stick to the 'master plan' which is what I believe is that they are friends and have each other's backs. Everybody he knew is gone because he was with the girl for too long, and he doesn't think he can face it on his own because he was with the girl for so long.

#3 They run into each other at the movies, but she is clinging to the arm of her new boyfriend. They walk past each other, just smiling, acting like nothing ever happened between them, but he senses the tension between his ex-girlfriend and himself. He knows that acting like that won't last, and she'll want to come back, but he will be over her when she decides to.

Chorus #2: The lyrics have changed, he's singing about her. She is now going to go through what her ex-boyfriend and her went through. None of her friends will be there for her, and she has to go through it alone.

@ivoisawesome.
yeah i totally agree. i mean you couldn't expect them to stick to the immature stuff their whole lives, it would get boring eventually. thats what gets fans: a wide variety of lyrics and sounds, not one particular thing. that gets old.

On the topic of "selling out" : ivoisawesome, i think you're right when you say it means that you change to get more famous, or make more money, or whatever. BUT. How is it that blink-182 changed to become more famous.... did anyone ever consider that maybe, their taste in music changed? or that their style of writing changed a little?

just because a band changes, doesn't mean they sold out. It means they're progressing, and it's a good thing. what's the point of a band who keeps making the same music over and over?

anyone agree?

idk but you hos but bein a sellout (to me) means that you change your music to get popular make money get famous (such as green day) but blink did not do that, they did become popular but they did not change their music, they just matured which all bands are destined to do

"And its happened once again, I'll turn to a friend ... I guess this is growing up."

The song is obviously about the hardships of growing up, the ups and downs of teenage years.

A great song, and with 21 pages of comments, I hardly need to go into more detail about the song.

Alright, i joined this site just so i could comment on this one song and will probably start commenting on others since the last comments are from 5 years ago for most songs. This song is exactly how every guy feels when a girl breaks up with him and doesn't explain why.

It's alright to tell me what you think about me
i won't try to argue or hold it against you
i know that you're leaving. you must have your reasons
your season is calling. Your pictures are falling down.

The writer just wants answers to why. He wants to know why she wants to move on and is ending the relationship. This always gets the guys into trouble... asking why a girl is making a decision. She won't give a reason. In reality, she is probably saying "I don't know."

and it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
but everybodys gone
and I've been here for to long
to face this on my own
well i guess this is growing up

The writer wants to turn to a friend at this point for help and to be supported. His friend was the girl. And since she is gone, his friend is gone. He feels alone.

the steps that i retrace the sad look on your face
the timing, the structure. did you hear? He f#cked her
a day late a buck short i'm writting the report on loseing and failing. when i move I'm flailling now

This is probably during the breakup. He is going over the relationship and what went wrong. He is hearing that she has been f#cking other guys. That skank.

and maybe i'll see you at a movie. sneak preview
you'll show up, and walk by on the arm of that guy
and i'll smile and you'll wave. we'll pretend it's okay
the charade, it won't last. when hes gone i wont come back

This would be some time from after the break up. The writer is letting the girl know flat out that he won't come back once she is done pushing him away.

Blink is sick. They might have been labelled sell outs 5 years ago, but they're done now. Awesome song.
